EDIT: I crashed and burned, I played an 8-Man beating pod and losing too affinity (really really badly) G1 I kept a 1 lander and died on T3 then G2 I kept 3 Lands and only drew lands for the next 4 turns then proceeded to die.
I decided I'll test out Modern today - I'm really concerned about Eidolon of the Great Revel screwing me over in the aggro MU so until I feel comfortable I'm going run Mono Red Burn:

I havn't really done any real testing, but I played against Pod and crushed it 2-0 with a monoR version running 20/18/22 (it was fun).
I think the RBx version with 18/18/24 might actually be good with some tampering, though replacing Searing Blaze for Searing Blood seem like the correct call.
Would this deck still count as burn or is it RDW if you have over 12 creatures?

I was thinking about Magma Jet, my prime issue I have with the card is that two lands is usually the number of lands you want to be on - thus the ONLY time Magma Jet is good is if you manage to ship a land, creature (T3+) or odd cards etc Searing Blaze vs Control/Combo.
Sooo time for some math!

If we cast it on T3+ when creatures are bad we have (assuming 20 lands and 12 creatures, obv. once we squeeze in Jet we'll have less lands and creatures) at least 30 targets (you need two lands to cast Jet) - thus you have >50% gaining value from Jet we're not factoring in fetch lands and the 10-11 cards you may draw during that period so its messy.
Is that worth it? I think so but I'll love someone capable at math to run the numbers (hint hint ham).

The idea of running Magma Jet in Modern feels really odd (since Modern is blisteringly fast, compared to pauper and standard) I don't really want to cut Vexing Devil since that lost of damage is rather huge (vs Combo and Control).

After reading Ham's Maths chart again it seem like the optimal number of lands for modern burn is 18 thus I now have room for two more random spells.
The only issue is that I don't know what it should be, here are my top choices:

1) DrS death is a huge deal, Jund and Pod are now many times easier to beat (I have names like G0D_L1k3, CrisaoSilva, Kjarl on my kill list) .
2) Cheating our mana is much harder now, I'm at a point where I can't fathom playing less then 20 lands if I run [mana]W[/mana] though this all means your chances of gassing out are now MUCH higher.
3) Playing less then 4x Grim Lavamancer 'feels' wrong, he is too critical in our key MUs.
4) The 'fuck it' approach is no longer viable, you'll need answers if you want to 4-0 or 9-0 events against the scornful enchantments and graveyards.

Clifftop Retreat is horrible just play Copperline Gorge if you need extra R/G, I'll also recommend 20-21 lands with that build since your running so many 2-drops you'll need 4 lands to be able to cast 2-spells per turn.
I got the colors wrong, but I still think Clifftop is bad due to all the games where its your T1 land....
(that said: I really dislike the flooding I'm getting with my current 21 land list - I kind want to run 18 lands with pretty much all 1cc spells MD (except SC and SB).

DE Updates:
G1: Soul Sister (0-2) was crushed in less then 5 minutes
G2: Red Burn (2-1) THE ONLY reason why I won was because his Goblin guide drew me 1-3 lands (I was flooded very badly).
G3: Pod (2-0) I still maintain my 100% win-rate vs Pod (had Double Boros Charm G1 it was fun.....)

I'm trying to decided if its worth trying to win the Soul Sister, Ad Nauseam and Aura MU or not.
I've decided on running the 3rd [card]Hide // Seek[/card] because it just beats Ad Nauseam, Gifts and helps against Artifacts and Enchantments (I'll be cutting Stony Silence) I do want the 3rd Lightning Helix for the mirror but I'll stick with the current set-up for now.
I'm gonna have to go with BlakLanner advice here, mainly because I think Rw Burn in modern is horrible (where are the Rakdos Charm!!!)
Yep, if your going to run Aura hate and your running green or white you might as well run a Enchantment sweeper.Remember, if any of the auras have totem armor (the umbras), Aura Barbs won't kill the creature and they'll still have it ready to attack next turn. Back to Nature is much better for the purpose of bogle battles.

I'm rethinking my position for the Robot MU (8x Hate cards isn't enough if they drop Rav + 2-3 Artifacts on T2) - I may go with 2x Artifact sweepers (while cutting down some hate cards), the prime issue is my need for some extra UWr hate as well.
Its quite an important fact as wellI was just looking over the meta on MTGO Goldfish when something really important occured to me that I've always overlooked - the lists on here don't actually give any information on how popular a deck is, only how many finishes it has made. I doubt anyone else will have overlooked this but I thought I'd share just in case
Ok I scored 3-1 in that DE so I'm in the money (thank goodness).
I ran the same list above, playing against:
G1: UWr Control (0-2)
SB + Explanation
G2: Pod [played by No.4] (2-0)
SB + Explanation
G3: Tribal Zoo (2-0)

G4: Jund (2-0)
SB + Explanation
I decided I really like 19 lands because I HATE being flooded (I actually won against Jund G1 with only 1 land ), I also really like the 3x Flames of the Blood Hand so they won't go. I do need something to replace 1 Relic of Progenitus and maybe the 4th Destructive Revelry, I'm leaning towards [card]
Choke[/card] and Dark Tutelage as it stands.
P.S. Do these long post with explanation help? Or should I save everyone time and just stop?
That actually look really good... I don't hate Bridge but I prefer Anger because its better against Pod and Bots - but Bridge is def. better in more MU which is important for this meta game.I'd run this SB -

G2 vs Pod (2-0) - It was played by G0d_LiK3 (no.4), I had a hot hand G1 and G2, he had a decent hand G1 and a horrible one G2.

4) Why Keldon Marauders? I didn't want to run 4th Searing Blaze and 4th Grim Lavamancer MU I needed something which helps the
creature MU without being dead against control - Keldon just happen too fits that role perfectly.
5) How do I feel about 19 lands, it almost got me killed one game.... but I've been playing with 19 lands for the longest time pre-DtR days so I'm not overly concerned.

I splashed Green solely for Destructive Revelry it good because it also hit Twins and Robots and all the fringe builds at the same time

Ensnaring Bridge good against creatures... lazer vouches for it, ham does as well (dies too decay and doesn't stop robots....)
Abrupt Decay can't be countered - hits everything in RUG Twins and is decent vs other MUs

I was having a rather meaningful discussion/debate with a Budget Sally players who believe I'm horrible at the counter vs burn wars which I want to take here:
Firstly: Yes, I agree its a great article - however all the theories need to have context, for example:

MDU: Bottlenecking control works in Standard and Pauper, however in leg. and Modern we're running below adv lands while they (the control player) are running T.Edge and/or Waste lands - by the time you hit 4 lands (which you need if you want to bottleneck Mr P.S Style) they can just LD you back down too 2-3 except they'll have fistful of control spells in hand now since you were holding back.
Thus my gameplan in modern and Leg. would be to gas my opp. I still try and bottleneck some off my smaller burns but I'll ok with tossing away spells EoT to allow for more spells on my turn - we can't wait and try too have a control mirror with our burn spells (this isn't standard).

I don't really believe Searing Blood is needed - sure its great vs Pod or Robots but Pod and Robots are not our worst MUs.
Our main threats are the deck itself (poor opening hands, floods, lack of mana, creatures past T3, spells like "Searing" when creatures are not around) and all the random fringes decks.

Sometimes I just want to toss in one Sacred Foundry and 4x [cards]Boros Charm[/cards]s in the SB just for these combo and control MUs.... though I dislike the idea of turning on Spell Snare so
I lost G2 vs Ad Nauseam 1-2, it felt hopeless - with him top-decking his Infect enchantment the turn before I could kill him - it makes me want to pack hate but it don't think its worth worrying about >2% of the meta.
Won G3 vs Scapeshift 2-1, it was a blowout game 1 and 3 - I feel like I would have won 2 as well if I played my lands a little differently - I'm gonna have to change my the SB plan, its just not good for the diverse meta (its would be GREAT if I keep facing Pod, Robots and Twin (omg I'll love that with this set-up)) but based on what

Playing a Modern DE right now beat UWr Control 2-1, do you guys think UWr is a good MU for burn? I'm running _Batutinha_ list atm and I really dislike holding onto a fist full of Searing Blaze and Rakdos Charm because I have nothing better to replace Grim Lavamancer with... (the SB plan was -4x Grim +2x Flames of the Blood Hand +2x Rakdos Charm) it could have been Combust to kill Resto Angel and man-land but I figure at least Charm can sometimes randomly win games with Blade Splicer, Snappy, Fink and Angel are all around.

I agree with your choices please get more fetch lands it will drastically improve Searing Blaze and Girm Lavamancer (it really will, and despite what the math nuts will tell you it WILL slightly reduce the odds of drawing another land).
