Never did do much testing on that RWb build I posted above. Anyone else try it out?

I'm liking Crackling Doom more and more from reading about it and seeing it played in other decks.

R/W burn shell, splashing black:

[deck]
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Hordeling Outburst

4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Banishing Light
4 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
4 Lightning Strike
4 Crackling Doom
4 Stoke the Flames

Lands 22
4 Battlefield Forge
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Nomad Outpost
6 Mountain
1 Evolving Wilds
1 Mana Confluence
1 Plains
1 Swamp
[/deck]

Red: 20
White: 11
Black: 11
Mountains for CttR: 11

Any recommendations for improving the mana base will be considered. I plan to test this a bit today.

Hordeling Outburst is in a strictly better spot than Goblin Rabblemaster right now. The format has tons of spot removal, but not a lot of sweepers, at least not in the main. Hordeling Outburst also triggers Prowess, so for this shell, it's just better in general. The only card I think is worth changing is the 2-of Banishing Light. It could just as easily be 2 Hushwing Gryff in the main, or 2 Suspension Field. Not sure what would be best in the current format, but I do know that I like having a bajillion cards to trigger prowess. Raise the Alarm is alright, but it's at it's best against small creature aggro decks which are not too prevalent.

Making sideboards is always my weakest aspect in magic:
[deck]
4 Hushwing Gryff
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
3 Despise
2 Thoughtseize
2 Glare of Heresy
2 Erase
[/deck]

Gryff stops the lifegain, SBD blocks him all day long, and there are excellent white cards to exile that fucker.
They play 1 card, and we have to spend 2 to even begin to deal with it. Playtest the matchup and you'll start to see why it's so miserable. I've been trying multiple different decks, and I can't find one that can even win it 40% of the time.

I'll be pushing a hot knife into my skull if I don't find something to consistently win against Rhino.Dec within the next 2 days.

So infuriating, to play around removal spells, and play a smart game, only to lose to triple Siege Rhino into Sorin or some shit. This feels worse than playing against Mono Black over and over.

If you want to go bigger you should probably just play Jeskai.
I was just starting to realize this. If you are cutting 1's, 2's, and 3 drops and going bigger, that lets you play more lands that come in to play tapped, which means you don't really have any reason to not just play 3 colors.

Freedom Fliers?

Mantis Rider
Ashcloud Phoenix
Stormbreath Dragon
Burn spells, Dig's, Planeswalkers.

I agree with Purp. At States, I found myself siding out Rabblemaster more than almost any other card. I was also siding out Arc Lightning a lot, but I feel like that card is necessary for certain matchups when they are spewing their hand of 1-drops.

Rabblemaster is a good card in general, I just find it to be totally worthless against Abzan, Jeskai, and Mono Green.

Devouring Light?

4-4 at States, but there were over 180 people at mine, and I still made top 64 to get into the prize pool, lol. Loss 1 came against a Jeskai Burn brew, he just drew it all, and my draws were poor, and then hit Dig into Dig. Loss 2 was against Abzan, won game 1, game 2 he gained over 30 life, and still ended at 2 life when I couldn't draw a burn spell for 3 draw steps, and game 3 he topdecked 3 Siege Rhino in a row when i had lethal in my hand with my attacking Phoenix. Loss 3 was against some bad Naya deck where I flooded twice. Loss 3 was mostly due to not caring, but I also flooded again in game 3.

List I ran:
[deck]
Creatures 12
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

Other Spells 26
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Arc Lightning
4 Chained to the Rocks
2 Deflecting Palm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
4 Stoke the Flames

Lands 22
4 Battlefield Forge
11 Mountain
2 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph
1 Wind-Scarred Crag

Sideboard 15
4 Hushwing Gryff
4 Satyr Firedancer
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
2 Deflecting Palm
3 Erase
[/deck]

As I was saying before, Goblin Rabblemaster feels kind of shitty. He's bad against Jeskai, and he's bad against Abzan. No real benefit to playing him right now. Hushwing Gryff was pretty fucking sick. I'd obviously rather have Skullcrack, or any other burn spell that stops them from gaining life, but whatever. Satyr Firedancer from the side was sometimes hyper effective, like in cases where I brought him in with Deflecting Palm, and other times totally useless. I think I'd rather have some Supsension Field most of the time, since he doesn't do shit about X/5's. Erase performed admirably when I needed it, and there were plenty of times where I wished I had more.

Deflecting Palm certainly won me a couple games by itself, including a time where a guy attacked with his Sarkhan and I palmed it, then Stoked him. Not the strongest card at all times, but it's definitely pretty powerful in the right circumstances.

And lastly, motherfucking Ashcloud Phoenix. This card is fucking sick, and I'm 100% confident with it being in the main deck now, as at least a 2-of. There was a game where my opponent and I were both in a top deck war at a high life total, and when I hit an Ashcloud Phoenix, I was confident that I'd eventually win. He had a Bow of Nylea out, and shot it down every turn, and at the end of each of his turns, I simply flipped it back up and dealt 2, then attacked with it on my turn and he was forced to shoot it down again.

I for one welcome our new bird overlord.

Stormbreath Dragon would have also felt pretty decent at the event, but not as good as the living 2-for-1.

His list looks pretty good, but I'd change the sideboard a little.

Mostly just cutting the 2 Ride Down, the 1 Arc Lightning, and perhaps 1 of the Banishing Light to squeeze 3-4 Satyr Firedancer in there.

I have a personal hatred for Ride Down

How did Lee Morino cast the counterspells from his sideboard is what I want to know.
His actual sideboard was this:

[deck]
2 Erase
4 Hushwing Gryff
3 Searing Blood
4 Firedrinker Satyr
1 Ride Down
1 Arc Lightning
[/deck]
[deck]
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
3 Stormbreath Dragon
Creatures [15]
3 Arc Lightning
4 Chained to the Rocks
3 Deflecting Palm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Stoke the Flames
Spells [22]
4 Battlefield Forge
12 Mountain
3 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph
Lands [23]
SIDEBOARD
2 Anger of the Gods
1 Deflecting Palm
3 Disdainful Stroke
3 Erase
3 Magma Spray
2 Negate
[/deck]

States results matter, when I'll be playing the list at SCG States this weekend, lol.

Satyr Firedancer, do I maindeck this mean son of a bitch, or not? At the $5k I ran 3 mainboard in the Jeskai deck I was playing, and it did pretty well. Basically, it's just another way to add value to every burn spell.

I'm not very confident in main deck Rabble any more.

Ashcloud Phoenix is fucking sick, and I've been waiting for a list where I'd run 2-4 in the main.

This is also one of my spec cards, with 16 copies owned.

4 CttR seems reasonable, given that we don't really have any other 1-mana plays besides Swifty. I really really don't like Sarkhan in this.

Deflecting Palm is still a card that seems to have dividing opinions. I'm still not sure if I want 3 in the main as a method to collect free wins, or if I want them in the side to bring in against BigDumbFatties.Dec.

You guys are high. Sarkhan is great
I personally don't see what's so great about him. Almost every time I've cast him, in any of my decks, it just felt kind of shitty. At the same time, he costs like a bazillion dollars, so much so that I've been considering just selling both of mine.

+1 - Stormbreath Dragon, except can still be hit by white spells. Still dies to Downfall. 6 loyalty after going up is nice, but sometimes I'd rather just have a Dragon that doesn't have loyalty.

-3 - Flame slash, for 5 mana. Generally speaking, I probably would have rather just used a Stoke on the guy, rather than pay a full 5 to kill a thing, then have my planeswalker die to a Mystic. If this dealt 5 damage or could be directed to the face I'd probably like the guy a whole lot more.

A lot of decks are going wide, and by wide, I mean tokens. Paying 5 mana to kill 1 of their 6 1/1 Goblins is a pretty shitty deal. At the same time, a lot of decks are playing creatures with 5 Toughness, and Sarkhan doesn't do anything to them either. Killing a Courser? I'm pretty sure that most green players are okay with you using a turn 5+ play, and tapping out, to remove something they played on turn 2 or 3.

Not really feeling the Sarkhans either, at least not for game one.

4 CttR sounds decent. It's cool, being able to Chain a guy on turn 3, and trigger prowess on one of your little guys, while also having 2 mana up to burn a creature out on their turn.

Edit: Never thought I'd actually miss Shock :no2:

just wanna chime in and say that any fringe control deck with white colored lands is pretty much required to run one or two Resolute Archangel in their 75 to have any chance against post-board jeskai burn lists. Ram just doesn't get the job done.
(Hushwing gryph is pretty good)
Except this list gives Jeskai the dick, even on the draw.

The matchup that most concerns me is MGD and Abzan, which is why we are leaning on 4 Hush so hard. Maindeck Satyr Firedancer is also a pretty strong meta call, and one that I feel is correct right now. Goblin Rabblemaster is an amazing clock, but he's weak vs Jeskai, and one could even argue that he's weak against Green decks, since he normally just trades with a Courser or whatever else they are playing. I feel okay with Rabbles on the play, but often times, on the draw, I wish I didn't have him at all.
