Fuckdiculous MTGS Moderation

A classic from the Lapdog:
While I can line-by-line your posts, I can tell you from experience how that plays out. It's an exhaustive process from all sides and only very rarely achieves a shared understanding on a reasonable time scale. More amusingly, it's the more "robotic" way of approaching it. Instead of instilling the human search for understanding and the true meaning behind your words, I'd be addressing them point by point. Input would directly equal output.

Instead I am, as a human, searching for the meaning behind your posts and then to understand and resynthesize to allow me to address the thrust of your points, rather than the minutia. Now, let's turn that back on its head. Are you attempting to do the same to me? No. Instead you see that input does not directly equal output and you're rejecting it on its face. While the irony is amusing to me, the pedantry is not.

Moving back to the issue at hand, I think you need to step back and ask yourself "what is harm?". The "true" harm that can be wrought on a web forum is malicious disclosure (doxxing), fraud (ripping), and psychological abuse (flaming). These are not the only concerns of moderators. We instead look at purpose. Why are we here? We are here to discuss Magic. In the Rumour Mill we look ahead. In Legacy, we discuss Magic's greatest constructed format. All of these have purpose. And in most, mild socialization does not run counter to purpose, instead it may even help foster a collaborative spirit at times. Indeed, this has led to Community Threads propagating out of the Cube forum and into most other forums. But Rulings is different. It has a very different purpose - that of a resource, both concise and searchable, and not of a medium of discussion. I've outlined all of that in preceding posts.

I understand that you do not agree with the rules of the Rulings forum. I agree with you that rules should make sense. Indeed, we've significantly loosened and slimmed the rules since 2011. But your lack of understanding for the purpose of the rules in Rulings does not make them not exist. And your hostile disregard for them has caused you to disrupt the purpose of the forum as described above.

If you want my personal opinion, read this post. As much as I am speaking for the staff here, the words here are my own and I write what I mean. If you were hoping for an automaton blindly following the rules, you will find yourself disappointed. I was an admin here for over two years. I literally wrote many of the rules or crafted or rethought our enforcement of them (both at admin and global). When I disagree with you, it is not an opinion borne of ignorance. Nor is it a blind veneration of a vestigial codex. No, it is what I understand from having literally run the site and from what I understand from being a user and local mod after stepping down. When I engage with you, I try to do so in plain speech. My words may be eccentric, but I'm not looking to turn this into a debate class. I am engaging with the crux of your arguments with as much brevity as I can muster so as to improve the likelihood of us reaching a common understanding.

Oh, and I just noticed Kaburi has already outlawed custom card creation in that thread. So you're only allowed to utter inane, baseless statements like "I wish there was another red planeswalker!" or "A sliver planewalker would be cool!", but no specific details and definitely no back-stories.

EDIT: Despite the fact that the OP specifically asked people to contribute back-stories for the characters they'd like to see.

Alright guys, rein it in. Starting to look a little fan-fiction here.
It's one thing to say you want a general concept, it's another to start making up details about them.
So basically he wants a thread full of vague generalities only. Infractions for anyone who mentions anything specific.

More Barinellos:
After conferring with Kaburi, we've decided that this thread has pretty much burnt out its life and hung around longer than is healthy. As a final parting note, I will say that for a decision that ultimately, as some indicate, doesn't matter, it has caused a lot of stir amongst the fanbase. It's a phenomenon that is worth carefully considering because I think it says a lot about what we do hold important in Wizard's decisions. Just something for everyone to meditate on.
The topic that had "hung around longer than is healthy" = a discussion on Kiora, the Crashing Wave's last name. Definitely a subject that warrants heavy-handed moderation :?

EDIT: Hilarious that he acknowledges its a subject that caused a stir and people consider it important.....but then went ahead and locked the thread anyway.

Barinellos at his finest, locking a thriving discussion thread for absolutely no reason - no heated arguing, no previous moderator action, no explanation....nothing.

EDIT: I'm guessing he disagreed with the OP's premise and couldn't be bothered resorting to his usual discussion style (ie. "Everything I say is correct because Barinellos. Don't like it? MODTEXT!")

MTGS may look different these days but iridium will never change. Here's an example of Annorax being a complete and utter dick.

http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/mtg- ... -banned#c2

KBT wants to appeal his ban but can't because he can't log in to the new site, so he creates a new account to ask for help. Annorax ignores the question and bans the new account on sight. The circular logic is impressive:

KBT: I want to appeal my ban through proper channels but I can't. What do I do?
Annorax: Appeal through proper channels. BANNED!

Classy.

Also, Good Cop Gals is still valiantly "trying to get as much information as is needed put together for you all" regarding counterfeits.

...but...

Unsurprisingly, he's infracting/censoring anyone who tries to provide any information about the topic in the meantime because ONLY GALS GETS TO BE THE GOOD GUY.

After several days of furious summiting, Gals has decided that counterfeit discussion remains banned because "if people are looking to improve their counterfeiting skills I don't really want to help them."

But it's ok, because "I'm trying to get as much information as is needed put together for you all" -- aren't we lucky we have Gals to decide what information we're allowed access to! He's like a living, breathing, neckbearded internet filter.

Latest MTGS mod to start wielding the infraction hammer for questionable reasons: bobthefunny

- infracts a guy for using the phrase "god, I hate Mark Rosewater" - Flaming
- gives an official warning to another guy for agreeing with the above phrase - Flaming
- infracts yet another person for saying "Blame MaRo for everything because he likes to troll EDH players" - Flaming
- infracts the first guy again for expanding on his original statement - Flaming

I'm personally at that point right now. After closing every thread and putting a gag order on the discussion once it appeared in the Official Reserved List Discussion thread? It's become pretty clear that many in our community unfortunately cannot discuss some topics and keep it civil or mature to allow intelligent discussion. I tried to leave open the latest thread after forcing the topic to have a rest - I wanted to see if it could be discussed after everyone cooled off. As this topic has continued to prove, however, the desire to interject in the discussion with hyperbole, sensationalism and personal attacks is too much and a lot of people don't have self control.

Since threads on the subject can't keep to the facts, I'll be closing them on sight for the near future. The initial threads I took no action upon because I thought it was an important topic we should be allowed to discuss and keep updated
on; but, there has been little information and much speculative arguing, instead.

Remember kids; Because of its status in the magic community, Star City Games is considered a member of MTGS and any criticisms levied towards the site or its staff have been met in the past with moderator action.
This is completely untrue and is blatant baiting. Infraction issued for troll/flame baiting-Xen
Did you point out that, y'know, it is in fact completely fucking true? Drifting Skies, Sparki, Sene, and Parinoid (not actually a mod, but the mods seem happy for him to add his opinion as if he still was) have all explicitly stated that MTGS anti-flaming policy extends to SCG and similar non-person entities.
