Ok, one more post and then I'll leave Namek for a while. I just stumbled across a Sally thread where people were recently moderated for:

- inappropriate language ("masturbate")
- disruptive behavior ("use of large font size")
- "invoking a negative response"

What the actual fuck?

Meanwhile, over at MTGS, vogon has just rolled out an awkward April Fools' joke about "Cat Monday." Highlights include

- a recurrent theme that "everyone has to have FUN! in this thread"
- jokes about MTGS moderation being over-zealous and heavy-handed
- KCW getting banned for leaking information (I assume that's a joke)

I want to buy an investment property but my wife doesn't. How can I convince her she's wrong?

EDIT: It's a fucking good investment:
- 4 blocks of land
- one with a house on it
- another one big enough to subdivide
- on the side of a hill with views of the whole town

Also, can somebody please translate what Azrael is trying to say here? I've read it about three times and I'm still no closer to understanding.

Can we all just concede that procedural fairness is not the staff's strong suit, and probably won't be for the immediate future?

There was a time when there was the possibility that talking about this enough would empower people who were good at that to ascend to positions of responsibility and whip things into shape. That time has past - a lot of those people have made it into those positions, and either left or are still there and are slowing becoming burnt out.

In time, when people have had a chance to regenerate their stores of patience, and the personnel situation has the chance to bring in new recruits who have an affinity at handling this sort of thing, it may be helpful to reopen the discussion. But as is, I
don't see how we're going to transition from this debate into a productive end-game. It seems to be having a counter-productive effect, if anything.

I just noticed it took Sene 18 hours to infract mastergee's post on E_R's helpdesk (the one where he called teia "he".) Despite the heavy mod/global/admin activity in those 18 hours, nobody picked up on this bit of trolling - which was apparently so unacceptably hurtful that it deserved a suspension - for nearly a day. It's almost like they went back over the thread with a fine-tooth comb looking for things to infract (but obviously that's crazy talk because the staff are way too busy to do stuff like that.)

parinoid picks a fight with redthirst + his entire clan -> gets thanked by Admin
SapphireTri calls out glaring moderation inconsistencies (without naming names) -> infracted for picking a fight

Sene posts humourous image related to the discussion -> no action
pinkfloyd posts humourous video related to the discussion -> infracted for spam

Gals labels redthirst a twit -> no action because "it's pretty clear I was not flaming the guy" (you'll just have to take my word for it)
redthirst's original infraction -> issued because "it's pretty clear it was spam/trolling" (ignoring redthirst's word stating otherwise)

Also, "squashed" my ass...
In his mind he probably thought he was squashing it. But you're right - "attempting to squash" is what I should have said.

Now, how long until they trot out the modtext

"Everyone here needs to cool down. Thread locked for 24 hours."

or better still,

"This issue is between E_R and redthirst. Anyone else who posts will be suspended."

solution seeing as Nai's original tactic obviously hasn't had the desired effect?

Haha, Nai pulls out the big guns, squashing a helpdesk argument by signing off with a thinly-veiled threat:

Just noticed ER is doing a votan on his helpdesk - he's ignored redthirst's question about inconsistent WCT moderation for nearly two weeks, but somehow found time to conduct other business (answering other people's questions, adding more smileys to the site) as usual. Note that three other Admins and two mods have posted since redthirst asked ER to hurry up - still no response.

At this point your appeal is denied because we need to see 6 months pass without a gimmick before we can let you back in.
This is amusing. It reads like they'd love nothing more than to unban you, but they just can't because their hands are tied.

That man looks slightly worried at being the subject in a picture taken in a public place. Rightfully so, in my opinion.
Lighting suggests it's probably overcast (it is London after all), so I imagine he's also concerned about the chance of impending rain which could ruin his suede shoes.

weird, you'd think the mods would say something about the infractions. oh wait nope.

The first reply to the OP was the_cardfather (eg. the mod squad) with this:
Why do people always assume they are going to get infracted for asking a question?
Then Belgareth had this:
Sadly this is becoming a more commonly accepted viewpoint, as I have tried to point out to the admins. The degree of clarity in the rules and what can and can't be infracted is getting blurry in some areas of site.
The pile-on continued with SirZapdos:
People routinely get yellow-carded in the Magic Rulings forum for not using card tags, even if the responders would probably know
the cards by heart. Granted, not using card tags is against the rules, but it must be disheartening for someone to sign up, ask their question, and then get immediately infracted.
Then votan stepped in and completely ignored all the previous comments about infractions.

PhyrexianExile:
Is there a way to delete my entire MTGS profile, as well as my blog?

I have tried deleting individual blog entries, but it keeps telling me that I do not have access.

I'm sure I will incur yet another infraction for this post...but I am attempting to leave so I would hope that would detract from the problem. Thanks.
Later...

PhyrexianExile:
Because I've gotten infracted for some really stupid things/seen others infracted for the same, so I always expect to receive one regardless.

It's fine, I just didn't want to clutter up the website with my nonsense now that I am staying away from it. I don't mind leaving up all of my posts, but just thought I would check.
