(POST ROTATION) JESKAI BURN
Florida grinder Shawn Ellis made a Jeskai deck that I'm in love with. He made Top4 at the 5K I won over the weekend.

(POST ROTATION) JESKAI BURN
The deck can get out of hand pretty fast - ditch some cards (fueling Treasure Cruise), make tokens, draw some cards, play Treasure cruise, go nuts.
If anything, it seems like the best deck to really abuse Insight and Cruise. It's like playing the most unfair fair deck.

The "I do what works for me" philosophy works for a lot of people, pros included. However, forcing a deck that's already badly positioned is just idiocy.I guess the "I do what works for me" just rubs me the wrong way as it seems like a losing philosophy in the long run.
So like, say your good at red agro, really good at it even. Do you always play red agro then? What if it's bad? You pigeon-hole yourself. Look at Wafo-tapa, one of my 5 favorite magic players of all time. Nigga plays control exclusively to the point where he FELL OF THE PT when control was bad because he forced it. And this was when he was undisputedly one of the top players in the world if not the best.
While you may be comfortable with something, eventually you need to leave that comfort zone so that you don't always fall back into the 'safe area' or else you don't grow as a player.
From about a year ago now, I went from bad at limited to understanding limited, to being pretty damn good at it because I studied the format, applied what I learned, then finally getting to the point where I'm comfortable experimenting with it and can feel comfortable diving into a new format without guidance to steer me into the right direction.

So, can i add this as one of your name dropping posts since you referenced me?Are we talking about in the new format, or do we continue to live in the past? For what it's worth, LSV is on the same plan re: two Outpost Siege postboard with countermagic.
I ALSO played outpost siege and countermagic. I know what siege does. It's also known technology that forces your hand. I DID NOT say siege was bad, I said ojutai is better.
Context of games: depending on how your main is set up and the level your opponent is on, it makes sense to board out spot removal against tokens in general because there just aren't good targets. Postboard, the context of games changes fairly drastically. Ojutai not only has a decent chance of rulling the skies against an opponent with zero removal main, it synergizes with ascendancy in play(Magical Christmas land, but reasonable combo) and it's a game breaking threat that trumps there sideboard cards.
Siege just generates raw CA which is nice, but it's not consistent. Sometimes you hit cards that you can't cast without ruining your plans and other times you can't cast them at all(there's a ridiculous big difference between flipping a tenth land and a stroke, hence you're comment being worth ridicule).
With Ojutai, you sacrifice speed(siege being a mana cheaper is a big cost), in exchange, you gain a self-contained plan. Siege in play for 2 turns does not guartnee victory. That's hyperbole at best, folly at worst. The second time an ojutai triggers on the other hand does something like triple your chance to win as instead of hitting 2/3 random cards, your getting 2 anticipates which is fairly close to a dig through time, AND you dealt 10 damage.
There's something called "the danger of cool things" where people are attracted to the flashy stuff be it exotic plays or new toys. You(and khaos, and most of my FOS bretheren) have the opposite problem; it's like, fucking cranky old man syndrome. "why would I play this new card, the old cards better, I'm not even gonna try it." "I played 10 games, new card sucks, old cards way better."
MOST FUCKING FRUSTRATING THING EVER. It's like everytime a set rotates, I feel like I'm exploring the new format and experimenting with shit, some good, lots of bad, and everyone else has the cards they love that they're gonna force, or just do nothing, and it's like pulling teeth trying to convince people to evolve. I don't even know why I care. But I clearly do which leads to lots of aggravation on my part.
While I'm certainly guilty of holding on to the ole "tried and true" philosophy, i also completely 'understand the "flashy card syndrome." I'm just trying to figure out why I'm lumped into the "won't change, can't change" camp. I test new things all the time but I certainly don't attempt to break the mold or the format. Suppose I could try, but i do know what works for me.

Great decktech from Jadine Klomparens for Jeskai Tempo.
I like that she says Deflecting Palm is a "niche sideboard card."

Excuse me for not being able to write a detailed response from my phone while I'm busy at work. However, if you actually bothered to read what I wrote rather than just skim over it, you'll see that I said that Palm is entirely a reactive card, dependent on not just what the opponent plays, but what the opponent decides to do. And unlike hard removal, it doesn't even remove the threats on the table, so it's effectiveness ranges from sucky to possibly a one-in-a-million blowout shot. The results aren't even guaranteed, unlike most reactive cards.Close enough. When you ask for advice on a deck and then choose to ignore solid evaluations and also choose to adamantly defend your theoretical brew choices, it makes me think that you're probably better off posting Sally
You fail to engage the guy in a discussion regarding your own arbitrary assessment of "reaction cards are bad" and resort to "whatever, run bad cards if you want" instead.
RW Burn runs plenty of reactionary cards:
1. Searing Blood
2. Chained to the Rocks
3.
Banishing Light
4. Wear // Tear
5. Glare of Heresy
6. Mizzium Mortars
OP keeps his cool the entire time and DTR just DTRs him into resigning that the idea sucks and he should just go try something else.
This is why these forums suck for deck building and card discussion. It's a Tom Ross/Zem echo chamber circle jerk.
I was also not going to debate with somebody over the
actual definition of what a reactionary card is. Bidding Master is a big boy and knows what they are. I'm not going to hold his hand. He wanted opinions on the list and he got mine: Palm is bad for this kind of deck and is, at best, strictly a narrow a sideboard card.
However...I will say that after rereading my posts, they do come off a little passive-aggressive. But then again, I have a history of this kind of thing, so back off.
I do appreciate your list, but aside from the Searing Blood and Chained to the Rocks, the rest of those cards are sideboard mainstays. Searing Blood sees maindeck play because it's a metagame call in a field of aggro and it does further Burn's game plan by dealing damage and removing a threat. It still applies pressure and it's rarely dead because even the most strict Control decks even play Mutavault or Elspeth (
tokens). Chained to the Rocks (like I mentioned) is a necessary evil at times because it can handle cards that Burn has a hard time dealing with. Currently, it's been moved to the sideboard since the release of Stoke the Flames. But, I'm glad to see that you've done some sort of homework on Burn decks. I actually didn't even think you played Magic.
Lastly, if you think these forums suck, well, what are you doing to make them any better?

This all comes down to the deck as a whole - you call it Burn. Burn decks are proactive and aggressive by nature. With a few, small exceptions you want all your cards to be doing something to pressure the opponent. Key removal spells are needed, like Chains, because they are usually universal and can deal with threats that most burn can't handle
If you want a reactive control deck, then I'd suggest you start over and make a control deck

nWho the fuck wants to play with a "shitty lightning helix?"the same can be said of chained to the rocks since it only hits creatures and is situational. I like deflecting palm because at worst its a shitty lightning helix and possibly suck a huge blowout. I think the upside is worth the risk. Even the control deck in this format i suspect will run some number of creatures since our sweeper in 5 cmc. and if bug becomes the next big control deck they will have to have creatures because we can easilly kill planeswalkers.Deflecting Palm is too reactive.
Chain to the Rocks is hard removal. It's guaranteed to do something. It is isn't situational. It's in your deck specifically to deal with creatures, which is a certainty in almost every matchup.
You just want to live the dream and experience some "what if" blowout. I get it. But don't tell me that some reactive card that's only capable of dealing damage provided what your opponent may or may not be packing is better than some actual hard removal, a threat, or even a real burn spell.
