Here's something for LP to chastise me about. I'm going to bring this for the Standard side events at GP Orlando tomorrow.

[deck]
Creatures 22
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Monastery Swiftspear
3 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Borderland Marauder
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge

Spells 17
4 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
4 Hordeling Outburst
4 Stoke the Flames
1 Hall of Triumph

Land 21
21 Mountain

Sideboard 15
2 Stormbreath Dragon
1 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Mountain
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Harness by Force
2 Circle of Flame
2 Arc Lightning
3 Magma Spray
[/deck]
So, did you try it out?
No, I did not. I spent the 2 days grinding win-a-boxes with Modern instead since my buddy Aaron was grinding Standard win-a-boxes. The Modern competition was too soft and I couldn't pass it up.

However, the big Standard decks out there are definitely Green Devotion/ramp, Junk Midrange, Jeskai Tempo, Mardu Midrange, Rabble Red, and Mono Black Aggro. In that order.

Yesterday, I almost decided to jump into Standard, but when I saw the large percentage of Green and Junk, I change back to an earlier build with Titan's Strength.

You can squeeze by on 3-4 four-drops on 21 land, but 5 four-drops is really pushing it. Maybe cut back on a Magma Jet?

I didn't do any sideboarding for the games, but I'll probably slap one together before i go to GP Orlando.

@LP - Aspirant is quickly falling into the Titan's Strength category as well, but I'm not ready to give up on him quite yet. However, if the Doomwake deck picks up, then I have no choice but to cut him since I can't always guarantee the 3/2 buff. At least Marauder is somewhat able to live and always provide a 3 power towards attacking.

After spending a few hours playing against Ross Miriam's G/b Devotion list, I've ended up here:

[deck]
Creatures 24
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Monastery Swiftspear
3 Foundry Street Denizen
3 Borderland Marauder
3 War-Name Aspirant
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge

Spells 15
3 Magma Jet
4 Lightning Strike
3 Hordeling Outburst
1 Hall of Triumph
4 Stoke the Flames

Land 21
21 Mountain
[/deck]

Doomwake is.....fuck, man. That thing sucks. Especially when the deck gets its nutdraw.

The deck still looks like a pile, but early pressure is essential with a capital E. Killing mana dorks is especially important. LP is right: the deck needs Magma Jet for early kill and to smooth draws. Also, I've concluded (again, LP is right) that Titan's Strength is really good when it's good and bad when it's bad. I don't really want swings like that, and Magma Jet is always Magma Jet so it gets the nod over the pump spell.

Did terribly at the event(went x-2) because I played Hordeling outburst vs. hall of triumph which you should NEVER do. Updated the deck slightly today which mostly made it worse, but before my buddy crushed the tourney with his mardu deck, we deck teched and rebuilt it to this beast:

[deck]4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Monastery Swiftspear
3 Foundry Street Denizen
4 War-Name Aspirant
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Hordeling Outburst
1 Ashcloud Phoenix
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge

4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
4 Stoke the Flames

2 Hall of Triumph

22 Mountain

Sideboard:
1 Searing Blood
1 Harness by Force
3 Arc Lightning
2 Magma Spray
2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
2 Mountain
1 Blinding Flare
1 Purphoros, God of the Forge
2 Ashcloud
Phoenix[/deck]

The sideboard is whatever, but the important cards are Arc lightning, Sarkhan, the 4 drops and the lands. Me and Yani did a lot of conversating and we figured out that the deck just really needs to hit 3 mana because hall, horde and rabble are all busted. The deck is worth playing because of all the synergies.

As for the tourney today, I went 4-2 but the losses came early so my middle/later matchups where against suspect competiton. Nonetheless, we learned a lot today.

Firstly, the deck needs access to sarkhan for the Jeskai tempo matchup. The way to beat the tempo deck is to kill there threats while being aggressive ourselves and sarkhan does both of those thing.

We also learned that our deck just needed more lands. I wasn't losing to flood since I had a healthy amount of scry and manasinks. In my last round, I meat junk midrange with 8 lands in play because Phoenix is really good.

Strongly feel this is one of the best decks in the format.
I fucking love
this.

I was wondering if maybe Denizen should just be Frenzied Goblin? What do you think?

Can someone explain the term 'Scrumper' to me?
Meet Scrumper: :scrump:

Scrumper loses a lot at Magic, typically going X-2 at FNM. Scrumper has no girlfriend. His ex spurned him many moons ago and now he deals with his misogynistic rage by listening to heavy metal music and pretending to be tough guy nerd at FNM, to which his mother drives him. Scrumper is a budget player that only prefers to play with Red commons. He can't understand why he loses sometimes. At his best, he's simply a beta male with women issues. At his worst, he's a whiny, self-absorbed man-child with borderline rape tendencies.

With so many things having big asses out there like Siege Rhino, Courser, Caryatid, Mantis Rider, Doomwake Giant (which is going to catch on) to brickwall the offensive, I'm not sure how I feel on the idea of maindecking Eidolon.

Purph was aweful for the tourney since I was racing every round and had to board it out in the majority of the games, but in a more open field, he's awesome.

His pump ability saves me from boarding trash like trumpets blast(may still board it cause...scrump).

Ashcloud is dope as fuck. There's a different deck I could build that's bigger, but at that point, you have to start asking if devotion red is better. You don't have to though because Phoenix is fine in all non-combo archetypes and matchups.
Correct on all points, especially about the Trumpet Blast. I was actually pondering that the other day.

Your devotion statement is pretty on-point. I asked myself the same question when I first posted
the deck.

And Purphoros is pretty solid. He synergizes well and provides late game value for your one drops. He allows you to really just spread sideways and then end the game with his pump ability.
