Oh man, I had a Faceless Manipulator that I wanted to use to copy his guy but made a different play because I was unsure about that very thing. I wonder if HS has a detailed rules guide that I could dig into instead of "YOLO let's see if this works"

It's ok, I'm picking this game up much more quickly than MtG. being familiar with the card pool will help a lot.

Ended up 3-3 with it, losing to another sick Warlock deck to drive the nail in. He opened with the 0/1 stealth guy that gives a +1 health bonus every end step, then curved out perfectly to blank all of my removal and buff his dudes just outside of favorable combat trades.

Put together a nice Druid deck for my 3rd Arena, currently 2-1, losing to the scariest Warlock deck I've ever seen :gonk:

1
Abusive Sargeant
Worgen Infiltrator

2
Power of the Wild (x2)
Amani Berserker
Faerie Dragon
Mad Bomber

3
Mark of Nature
Acolyte of Pain
Harvest Golem
Shattered Sun Cleric

4
Soul of the Forest
Chillwind Yeti
Dark Iron Dwaft (x2)
Gnomish Inventor
Keeper of the Grove
Ogre Magi (x2)
Twilight Drake

5
Druid of the Claw
Faceless Manipulator
Spiteful Smith
Stampeding Kodo
Stranglethorn Tiger
Venture Co. Mercenary

6
Boulderfist Ogre

8
Ironbark Protector

I was pretty unhappy to take the Ogre Magi and the
Spiteful Smith, but they were much better than the other choices.

I discovered yesterday that Hearthstone doesn't process simultaneous triggered effects like Magic does. I set up this complex play where I had the 4/2 that drew a card when a friendly minion dies, then attacked for a bunch, then killed off a whole board full of x/1s, including the 4/2 with 1 damage already on him.

Didn't get any cards because dude has to survive, unlike in MTG. Boooooo!

I've been doing the quests in the morning to earn gold, then spending it in Arena.

I'm not good at the deck building aspect yet because my traditional idea of a mana curve is too low (games frequently last until and past turn 10), and I frequently get tricked because I don't know what all the cards in the set are.
Always pick something that will 2 for 1, and only pick the best spells of a class
That's generally the path I take (draft a Jund deck), but I tend to lose to decks with a lot of hero synergy.

I think that looking up a typical winning curve will
help a lot.

You'll level up faster once you unlock the expert AI. Just play each hero type until you get all the cards, then switch to the next hero. I think you still get points even when you lose.

Played some Arena and went 3-3 then 2-3 despite having no idea what I was doing most games. Seems decent!

Started grinding casual matches with my super terrible budget Warrior deck for gold, won enough to buy a few packs and completed a few quests. I routinely go up against guys with decks full of Epic and Legendary cards, which seems odd. Am I just getting matched against these guys because I haven't played enough games and my ELO isn't accurate?

Added everyone here with a battle tag. Mine's hamfactorial#1887

I'm going to spend a few mornings grinding through the first levels to unlock characters, etc.

I need to spend some time grinding to get cards. Seems like this is a good time to be getting in.
