I was going to ask if they could force me to be a vanilla townie for my first round so I don't have any powers or abilities to fuck up.

Nah man. My first game I was scum buddied with Stardust and it was a blast. It was also great having a partner who could walk you through things in scum-chat without anybody else seeing.
