(POST ROTATION) JESKAI BURN

Good point, the less versitile your cards and less 1-of's the worse Dig is.

I guess Jace slows down your clock but being able to flashback burn for the win and also pitch lands to find burn since this deck doesnt want a lot of lands like the more typical Jeskai deck seems good.

Basically I think Firedancer is a very hit or miss card and so is Searing Blood(which I wouldnt cut, maybe to 3).

Jace is more consistent overall so I think its a better game 1 card and could easily be boarded for Firedancer when you play creature matchups.

Just dont think Firedancer is great vs Control(which is low) or Abzan control(very popular). I'd rather sideboard it in knowing it will be awesome.

(POST ROTATION) JESKAI BURN

Jace just seems so good in a deck like that. Wonder if Jace should be main deck to dig for burn and flash it back while you have Satyr Firedancer in the sideboard for creature heavy matchups.

Wonder also if Dig through Time is better than O Command since you are putting spells in the graveyard each turn making easy delves and digging into burn to finish game seems great when you have to burn creatures early.

(POST ROTATION) JESKAI BURN

I wanted to run it tonight at Wednesday night standard but couldnt get the last 2 insight so stuck with the GP london tweaked list.

It does seem good but not running Jace just seems crazy in its own right.

Doubt I will play it this weekend at PPTQ since I wouldn't feel super comfortable playing it compared to the typical Jeskai lists.

Ok cool we are on the same page.

LSV and Finkle/Shahar were all on the burn heavy version but I'm not a fan at all n think mono red is just better than that.

Hows Harbinger for you? Surprised most lists arent actually running it anymore. I was looking at Stratus dancer in that spot possibly.

have you guys been testing the burn heavy version or creatures+command?

So here is my report for the SCG Open.

About 450-500 people, 10 rounds of Swiss. Went 8-2 for 18th place and got $100 which is better than nothing.

Ran this list

[deck]
4 Mystic Monastery
3 Mountain
3 Flooded Strand
3 Temple of Triumph
3 Battlefield Forge
3 Shivan Reef
2 Island
2 Temple of Epiphany
1 Plains

17 CREATURES
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Hushwing Gryff
4 Mantis Rider
3 Ashcloud Phoenix
2 Stormbreath Dragon

4 Stoke the Flames
4 Lightning Strike
4 Jeskai Charm
4 Magma Jet
3 Banishing Light

SIDEBOARD
3 Disdainful Stroke
1 Anger of the Gods
3 Magma Spray
1 Gainsay
3 Prognostic Sphinx
3 Suspension Field
1 Dig Through Time
[/deck]

Round 1 - WIN vs UWR control- pretty easy and dragons too good.

Round 2 - LOSS vs G/b Devotion- Dude went on to top8(Stephan Jack) but I would have lost to any deck. I kept 2 land( 1 scry) and Magma Jet on the draw. Scryed all non-land to bottom(saw 6 total cards), missed 3rd land drop STILL and got ran over. Game 2 I had the opposite and scryed FOUR lands to bottom in my first 5 turns and still hit my first 7 lands drops. Think I cast 3 cards across both games.

Sucked balls getting a loss early but I battled back.

Round 3 - WIN vs Mirror Pretty easy win , finished both games over 12 life.

Round 4 - WIN vs Junk Midrange Just as expected, this version of the deck rapes junk. Wasnt really close either game as I ended both above 20.

Round 5 - WIN vs Junk Constalation Bwhaha Gyrff is pretty good against these decks lol. Though I fucked up and thought I could respond to his Doomwake off See the Unwritten but you cant....still won luckily.

Round 6 WIN vs Junk Midrange This one was a little closer, at least in game two , put him to 3 EOT and had to draw a burn spell and...lightning stike off the top!!

Round 7 LOSS vs Mirror Played a friend and ended up losing after I was way ahead becuase I had 2 riders and he got a second dragon I couldnt remove and only drew 2 burn spells the entire game. Game 2 I was stalled on 3 lands while he had 7 and lost all tempo. Oh and I got Deflecting Palmed twice.

Bye bye top8....time to get my money back.

Round 8 WIN vs Junk Midrange Yet another Junk deck...4-0 on the day I believe but this one was a lot closer and as I ended both games with myself at 5 life.

Round 9 WIN vs RUG Monsters Not very close..ended above 20 both games.

Round 10 WIN vs Mardu Aggro Mardu acendency and Butcher is legit and made for a lot of putting it on top of his library but he was taking 3 damage a turn off pain lands which made it pretty easy. Running 8 pain and 4 mana confluence waas just what I wanted to see.

Final Thoughts
So it wasnt the top8 I had been dreaming of, but considering I started 1-1 I am pretty happy with winning 7 of my next 8. Also going 4-0 vs Junk decks made me pretty happy.

Thoughts on the deck : Ashcloud wasnt really as good as I thought.... I usually didnt want to tapout turn 4 and idk he was just kinda meh...

Gyrff was fine, didnt really miss Rabble as I raped Junk all day. Phoenix was no part of that though.

I think 1 Phoenix may be fine but 3 felt way too much. I would rather have Dig or possibly Disdainful Stroke.

I sideboarded Stroke a ton but saw it once all day lol.

We both had rough starts, me at 1-1 and him at 1-2 but didnt let that stop us.

I finished 8-2 and he finished up 7-3 losing in the final round.

Tournament report for me soon to follow.

Ok I think we are going a little overboard on the whole rabble sucks thing.

ITS A META CALL.

I am going to be running Gryff tomorrow at the SCG Open because my area has a hard-on for green.

I also went ahead and looked at SCG States for every State touching mine and also mine(Massachusetts).

The top 8's were 75% Junk decks/Devotion and very few Jeskia. There was at most 1 or 2 in top8 and some with 0.

Thus, I am going in hedging vs green decks and if I happen to run into mirror, so be it. I can lean on my burn experience from last season and I find myself strong in the mirror.

Strasky is the man. Major props for him to helping us on reddit.

Love his teams idea to cut the card draw and just put actual threats. It is hard to do nothing that effects the board and tap out for a turn in the midgame unless you are both in topdeck mode.

I'd say no to Firedrinker until more control decks pop up.

Also, control seems to be an excellenet matchup. Only reason it was bad before was Rev. Without Rev they cant really pull ahead and it gives you many turns to topdeck burn spells and kill them.
Aside from Resolute Archangel, fuck that card.

@Raspy-- Phoenix has been in my board for all the burn I have tried but I just have only played 1 matchup and didn't draw Phoenix.

Not sure how good he is outside of the control matchup or slower midrange decks.

Chained feels so much better now with lack of enchantment removal, counting for prowess(where it didnt for YP$) and also costing 1 mana in a world of expensive removal spells.

I would argue that

1) No one is expecting Palm game 1.
2) It can entirely change the way your opponent plays. They can make suboptimal lines based on if you have it or not.

How are we "leaning on it as our game-plan" when it is a 2-of?

I have yet to see someone recommend something better.

For 2 mana, it is often at least 3 damage to the dome, just like Skullcrack was.

Niche in a meta dominated by big green creatures and rabblemasters???

Plus game 1 no one will play around it, giving you huge blowout potential. People think it is in the board.

It is bare minimum Do 3 dmg to target player, gain 3 life.

It can easily be 4 or 5 damage.
