I think I'm in love with Osyp's Mardu deck, basically splash for a Doom n a few other cards.
Only 7 taplands just like Stark RW

I really like how that list has only 8 tapped lands considering Ben Starks list had 7, its basically a free splash. Although this list kicks Chained to the curb, which kinda sucks. IIRC your list had both Chains and Doom.
I've noticed the Jeskai decks are running 11 tapped lands which seems like a big leap, especially with a bunch of 2 drops, you will get double tapped land hands a lot.
I am more worried about a control-heavy meta as I am in the NorthEast, not a lot as far as devotion is concerned. Do you have any thoughts on Jeskai compared to Mardu?
Mardu seems like a good hedge vs green devo while Jeskais draw spells n counters seem good vs control.

I will say that I have not played against a Sidisi or Mantis in over 2 months, maaybe just how things lined up for me.Yes. It kills Sidisi and takes out Mantis Rider. It's decent enough reach. Also, what Val said about Courser.
Whats this 7-0 PTQ list? I couldnt find it online, only 4 of the top8 from the MTGO PTQ
Was it Jeskai or Mardu? Just saw an article by Yurchick referencing a 7-0 list but its Jeskai.
I am actually considering Jeskai myself for this weekend. Got a Super IQ $1k and a PPTQ.
Feel like all the good players are on Junk or BUG Control. Jeskai seems better vs them, and still good in mirror/RW.
Thoughts?
Looks like my messages from my phone didnt send...
Shahar was on Sidisi Whip btw.

I did play mastery but I went a little bigger post board with Sarkhan and Phoenix and like I said, had to mull to 6 both games 2 and 3 of both the matches we played. I got stuck on 2/3 lands till turn 6/7 , while drawing 4-5 drops, each time as well. He also had good draws, didnt mulligan any of the 6 games we played, no mana isssues and lined up well vs my threats.
The guy went on to beat Shahar Shenhar, so I dont feel as bad.

Ended up losing in top4 at a SCG IQ today but you'll never guess who showed up to our 32 person event...
mother fucking Shahar Shenhar...the world magic champion.. He lost in finals to dude that beat me.
I played the Nathan Holiday list shown here http://www.channelfireball.com/articles ... ard-guide/
Lost in swiss and top4 to the same guy on Junk control. I dont think the matchup is awful, but I mulliganed a bunch and got stuck on 3 lands a bunch against him. Certainly not a good matchup for us.

Any opinions on which list to bring to an IQ where I expect less aggro/mirror and more midrange/control decks?
I am leaning towards the classic builds since Soulfire and Wild Slash arent that great against mid/control. Also I know this deck pretty well-playing it all season.
However I could totally be missing something and have heard nothing but good things about the Stark list so it could be the correct choice.
On the side: Kinda thinking RDW might be the correct call considering the meta I expect...

Anymore thoughts Lightning Dolt??
Really not sure what variant to run tomorrow at this IQ, but then again getting 4 Soulfire might be a longshot anyways....
Was it just having the maxed Seiges? Seige has been incredible in the typical RW for me so maybe just cutting Chandra/Pheonix and running 4 Seige is good.
People say that having more small spells helps Seige which I guess can be true but I find between your draw step and Seige 1 is often a land anyways. Most of the time I am very happy to see Dragon off seige.

Heres a pretty good article on Channel Fireball by Nathan Holliday who has been playing the deck for a while.

Tons of events going on in my area this weekend.
Really cant decide on the typical deck that I just won the PPTQ with or do try the Starks list...
Had our national sales meeting all week so I havnt been able to test, have any of you guys actually tested with the list?
I'm trying to find the differences in the matchups.
Starks is definitly better against any aggresive deck, but thats fairly obvious. The mirror could be debated as typically in mirrors the slightly "bigger" deck comes out ahead but sometimes Dragons can just sit in your hand and Soulfire seems pretty good in the mirror.
Against control, Starks seems a bit better with a lower curve and more of the important card in Seige. No Dragons can be a pain but sometimes you just want the early aggresion and increasing the chance of getting a 2-drop. Wild Slash really sucks in this matchup tho.
Vs Green Decks - Not having a flyer sucks but having more Slashes seems good against mana dorks for slowing it down and burning them out eventually.
I really have no idea but I know the shop I am going to always is full of midrange and control.

The only change I would consider is maybe swapping the 5th Plains for a different land.
The rest felt perfect but you can mess around with the sideboard depending on what you expect- clearly I expected lots of Green devo with the End Hostilities and Elspeth. I also thought Elspeth would be good in mirror but I never casted her.
Sideboading plans
Keep in mind I won every single game so I was always on the draw when I was sideboarded. For this reason I almost always took out Rabble.
Vs RB, and Mono Red aggro, RG
- 4 Rabblemaster, 1 Valorous Stance, 1 Outpost Seige
+ 3 Arc Lightning, 2 Sarkhan and 1 End Hostilities
Vs RW Pheonix
-4 Rabble, , 1 Outpost Seige, -1 Chandra, -1 Valourous Stance
+3 Arc Lightning, + 1 Glare, +2 Sarkhan, + 1 Peak Eruption
Vs Junk aggro
-4 Rabble, -Chandra, -2 Seeker,
+ 2 Glare of Heresey, +2 Sarkhan, + 2 End Hostilities, +1 Valorous Stance
Something like that, mix it around for exact matchup

Another week traveling for work meant I couldnt follow the thread during the week but catching up on friday night certainly helped.
I had my best day of magic EVER.
First, I got to buy an amazing Boros symbol shot glass.
Second, I won a PPTQ. Not only did I win it, I didnt lose one single game of magic the entire day. 14 wins, 0 losses.
It was only about 55 people but at least 20 were good players I recognized(have top8'd real PTQs).
I ran well, only mulling to 6 a few times, never to 5. The few 2 land hands I kept worked out fairly well.
Here's the list I ran, expecting a heavy Red meta and also Green Devotion with some Junk mid/control. Turns out there was no Green devotion but plenty of red and junk.

Top8 vs Junk Aggro
This was pretty crazy as he had triple Rhino and got me to 1 life with him with 2 Rhinos and a Vampire token but I got 2 Outposts online and drew my way out of it.
Top4- RW aggro but a little different with no Seeker and full set of both Pheonixes
Finals - Mono Red Aggro- pretty easy as I got brimaz both times.
Thoughts on the deck:
Wild slash is amazing in the main, obviously thats based on matchups but it was huge to play it turn 5 even with a 4 drop. There was nothing that made Lightning Strikes 1 damage matter.
Outpost Seige is legit but Chandra is good too, the 2-1 split I like. Seige won me a lot of games I had no business winning but there was a few times only Chandra would do it and she pairs great with Brimaz and Rabble.
Peak Eruption is great, it should be played more.
Ashcloud is def worth a spot but just one seems fine to diversify 4 drops and block well vs Dragons, while helpign control.

Thanks for the lists and discussions guys. It was very helpful today as i've barely got to play magic past month or two.
I used the lists you have been discussing past few days and went with a 2/2 Brimaz/Phoenix and also played Outpost Seige over Chandra in the main.
Went 7-2 at SCG Regionals ending up 26th out of 411 players- the biggest of all regionals.
Lost to a guy who top8 with Junk midrange who I had dead to rights and topdecked the exact cards in the exact order to win.
However in game 2 I mulled to 6 but had turn 4 Outpost Seige. My oppenent proceeded to cast Rhino on the next three consectuvie turns, and I still won.
Outpost Seige was bonkers all day, despite never naming Dragons. It just never came up as I usually had it on turn 4 when it was close or scryed it to bottom in early turns looking for land.
The fact that it basically never dies is worth it over Chandra in my opinion, it was like a Phrexian Arena. Certainly won many other games for me too.
Many games the board was clear by turn 4 and playing this just put me wayy ahead.
I also lost to a mirror where I got mana screwed 2 games and he curved very well.

Looked through Mtgtop8 and found this deck featured in dailies getting 2nd, 3rd, 4th respectively.
Piloted twice by one guy than another time by someone different.
Basically it goes very threat heavy and cuts down on the burn; just 4 Strike and 2 Stoke.

Hey Fellas!!
Been a while but standard just hasnt given me the same enthusiasm as of late, I really really felt so at home with RW Burn.
Stumbled upon the RW Wreck Em article last week really think it could be the deck for me.
Figured I'd try to at least give a little input.
How do we feel about Hushwing Gryff? I think Brimaz/Jet/Ashcloud/Pilgrim could possibly be shaved for it. Really well positioned right now.
I am a little partial as I ran 4 Hushwing over Rabbles in Jeskai Tempo at a SCG Open at the start of the format and did very well(8-2). I played 4 Junk midrange that day and won all 4.
