message me on facebook. i check it much more often and really interested in your thoughts. i havent formalized a sideboard plan yet.

on volcanic fallout. i havent played with it in a long time, but i remember hating it because two lords = useless & it really wrecks our grim lavamancers. Also Eldrazi decks are getting aggressive with Thought Knot Seer and Reality Smasher, so bridge is much more necessary now i think.

I'd cut the main Atarka's Command for one more Blaze (I feel three is fine MD) and something like a Shard Volley or a 3rd Helix. I don't see the point of only 2 Command main...should be 4 or 0 imo. I personally play a very similar list with the same concept behind it, so what I did was stick 3 Atarka's Command sideboard for when I want the extra skullcracks and can afford to go 3 colors.

In terms of sideboard...idk I don't really care for Pyrite Spellbomb. My sideboard is 3 Firewalker, 4 Reverly, 2 Path, 3 Atarka's Command, 1 Searing Blaze (b/c I run 3 main), and 2 Ensnaring Bridge. You could cut the Bridge for some Molten Rain or whatever really if you're worried about Tron or other matchups.

I never had too much trouble with them unless they splash white for timely reinforcements. All depends on the hate they have really.

I was thinking of cutting Bridge actually because Zoo and some decks just have random Pridemages and stuff maindeck and don't usually side it out, but I feel that Pridgemage will be cut with Twin banned. So it might be worth it again?

And even if they do have ways to kill it, it won't be many (like maybe 2 cards), so it can't buy us a ton of time and win games we couldn't win otherwise.

This is what I'm playing right now and I'd like y'all thoughts. I've been liking it a lot so far. It has the benefit of being able to stick to two colors which gives +points versus aggro and the mirror, but I can sideboard into Atarka's Command when I need more Skullcrack effects or a faster goldfish. A few sideboard slots are up for debate...namely the 2 Ensnaring Bridge and 1 Atarka's Command (not sure if I really need 7 Skullcrack effects).

do you think this is overall a good or bad banlist change for burn?

I feel it's always right vs Jund at least. Idk about other archetypes.

Well it's not so much that Helix is super amazing against Grixis Control & Jund, but I just feel that any burn spell is better than Nacatl versus them (since Nacatl is often 0 damage). So I think it'd be really smart sideboarding to have a 4 of mirror & aggro hate card while also being able to do easy swaps against almost every matchup. Vs Merfolk and similar aggro decks, it's an easy 4 for 4 swap with Eidolon (I actually don't like Eidolon too much in the mirror either) and vs Jund and similar decks, it's an easy swap with Nacatl.

Next week I can help flesh out a list (or if I have extra time in my class this week). Depending on other tools we have for various matchups, it might be better to do something like 3 Helix, 1 Skullcrack or something. (I'd actually really want 5-6 Skullcrack effects in my 75 for the PT)

edit: I actually just read your reply to my comment on your video. So do you think Nacatl is actually just better than whatever burn spell versus Grixis Control postboard? I guess it really is kind of a tossup between hedging against removal or counterspells

I like at least 3 Revelry vs Infect bc a lot of them play 3-4 Spellskite.

So I was thinking of having something like Lightning Helix sideboard (with only one or 2 Kor Firewalker) so I could side out Nacatl and just bring in straight burn while not sacrificing too much from other matchups....honestly I feel the gap between Firewalker and Helix is super small anyway considering everyone is playing Nacatl.

After GP Oakland I'll post a list and some different sideboards I was thinking with my plans for each matchup. After Oakland I really need to grind hard and get it all figured before the new set is out since I'm going to the PT.

I've been doing the same thing as you GoblinWarchief. I moved Eidolons to the board w/ maindeck Nacatl. It's been working out pretty well.

BTW, do yall mull all four landers now with the scry rule? I used to keep 4 landers w/ creature, but with the scry rule i think we can mulligan all of them. I also mulligan all 1 landers unless they're double 1 drop on the draw.

how many searing blazes do yall usually leave in vs twin? I leave in 1, but maybe 2 is better?

I have just been tuning this based off what I see online. Maybe it's just variance, but I been running into a lot of aggro. I feel this list still hits all the matchups pretty well (while maybe not being particularly strong against any of them). What would you change?

So this is the list I'm trying out right now because I've been unhappy with Eidolon lately. I missed it after playing 15 matches without it in my whole 75 though and started to miss it. So after shaving some things, I came to this list, largely inspired by Josh Utter Leyton's Nacatl Burn deck. I'm conflicted on the last slot though. Should I maindeck 1 Skullcrack or the 4th Lightning Helix (which I think is very well positioned right now)...or should I main a single Lavamancer and sideboard the 1 Skullcrack? I'm leaning on the one Lavamancer main, but would like to know y'all thoughts.

Also, I need more reps, but I've been really liking the idea of this list. I've been having a consistent problem where I would side out Eidolon and side into a tempo/control deck versus decks like Merfolk, Affinity, and most random creature decks. But It's really hard to have that sideboard configuration work consistently with only 8 creatures postboard. I also randomly get into trouble with Eidolon like having it on the draw in the mirror. This also helps go "max goldfish" versus dedicated combo decks like Bloom and reanimator.

I feel it just conflicts with the "control route" we typically have to take games 2 and 3. I personally board in Path to Exile, so when the games go long, it is a really awkward to topdeck it anytime past turn 2.

do y'all keep Eidolon of the Great Revel in vs Affinity on the play?

I always bolt the dork turn 1 (even vs elves), especially in my RW deck that is a little slower than Naya Burn. Goblin Warchief has a good point in that a t2 three drop shuts down your Guide anyway. Regardless, I feel that leaving the dork on the table gives your opponent too much of a tempo advantage that you can't compete with. The one exception I would have is if my hand is pure gas (like lethal burn in hand) and a Lightning Helix that would let me outrace their goldfish.

also yea, the config is pretty bad vs combo, but control finishers are all creatures, so you can use searing blaze as a 2cmc bolt at least.

I'm running 3 Blaze main with 1 side + 1 searing blood side also.

MDU, my friend looking to get into Burn, but he is crazy and wants to maximize the turn 3 kill. I know you experiment a ton, so what do you suggest?

edit: has anyone changed their mulligan decisions because of the scry rules? namely mulliganning 4 lands with creature or mulliganning certain 1 landers

I haven't been playing online as much, but with the uptick of Zoo and even burn (based off paper results), I think Lightning Helix is really well positioned right now. I went to a local tournament and crushed into top 4 (where I lost to Boggles) because I went to 3 Lightning Helix main and 1 in the side over a Kor Firewalker (so 2 Firewalker, 1 Helix). Especially since I'm still running the simple RW w/ Revelry in the board, I feel all this life gain (and lack of shocking in) simply buys me a whole extra turn versus most decks anyway while giving me a huge edge vs Zoo and Burn.

So I'm running straight RW burn with 20 lands & Destructive Revelry in the board. Is it better to run 3 Mountain, 4 Sacred Foundry, 1 Stomping Ground, 12 Fetch or 3 Mountain, 3 Sacred Foundry, 1 Stomping Ground, 13 Fetch...or is there a more optimal configuration?

Hey guys, I'm back playing Burn. I tried playing Affinity, but I just don't enjoy the deck. So is Nactl Burn just better than other variants now? Also, Josh Utter Leyton ran no Eidolon and 4 Nactl, but online, people are running both...going up to 16 creatures. 16 creatures seems like too much to me, but what are y'all thoughts?

I'm on the play. What do I play turn 2? Double Swiftspear or Eidolon? I know what Guide reveals & what they do turn 1 changes the play, but in general, what do you do?
