That's pretty nasty anti red aggro right there.
I wonder about that. If only Blasphemous Acts is still around.

Anyway, I tried to log into MTGO, but apparently my ver 3.0 is cooked. So I have to make use of the ugly beta client now?

After giving it further reevaluation, I suppose it does have its use against particular decks like red since they don't have a way to deal with it profitably. Perhaps more as a sideboard card.

It's not often to get 6 lands in a red, but yeah, it's nice to have options.

Looking at those other fonts, I expected to see Seal of Fire returning. A little disappointed.

You guys do remember that we all rocked a 2/2 for 4 CMC double strike at one time, right? Granted it did have undying, but hey....you never what the metagame will turn out to be a year from now.

Isn't there a quasi stonewright guy in this block too?
Everflame Eidolon. Granted, it's not as good as good as ol Stonewright in giving your opponent dilemma.

EDIT: Worth the mythic slot? Huh, you think so? I hated the flame chicken too. Imho This is equally bad.
1) Flamespeaker has an ability that is currently only available on a mythic for red.
2) It actually has something to help it getting through some damage (Double-strike and Trample. Usually red will only be getting First Strike here. Also a toughness of 3 compared like Academy Raider or Markov Blademaster)
3) It's not a card where your opponent choose what it will be.

Sure, it will most probably get killed by a Bile Blight, but the same goes to Chandra getting [card]Hero's Downfall[/card].

Is an off-color Ophidian bad right now? Only time will tell.
It isn't Ophidian. You don't draw the card, you have to use it that turn.
It isn't, but that blue card doesn't get you two cards either. It definitely is worth the mythic slot than some flaming chicken in previous expansion.

All the flamespeaker need is a [card]Madcap's Skill[/card] to wreak havoc. Also, a butt of 3 means it can tank a lot of damage (Pharika's cure, Drown etc). It's definitely a better red 3cc doublestriker than what we have gotten for these recent years.

Also, happy birthday, windstrider!

The Eidolon will have applications against decks that pukes out cheap creatures like MUD. Since they cannot remove it, they will be taking 2 damage for practically anything they drop (Except for Jace and the bident).

Against control, it will be removed instantly since having it around put a clock on the opponent similar to Blood Artist.

If it had a power of 2, it would be a little too good. As long as it lives and you have burns, the board will be easily cleared for him to swing.

And let's not forget when you have more than one of them in play. *shudder*

Satyr Firedancer and Searing Blood are made for each other. The thought of burning two creatures and a player for just 4 is downright gravy.

I personally think the Firedancer just might be the next thing. It just screams presence, and your opponent just cannot ignore it.

Oracle of Bones is a fixed Bloodbraid Elf. Unlike the one before it, it doesn't net you a card for your trouble. However, the treat of any sorcery/instant is indeed gravy.

Unless you have no card in hand, seems like you will be getting a 5/3 haste for 4 most of the time. A rather good bargain, in fact, I have to agree with others, this is oddly better than the phoenix than the other way round.

Note: Remember it's not Red sorcery and instant, so go for broke with it.

Red actually might be slightly better versus the meta, as one can speculate that the increasing power of black will hate blue devotion out of the meta to a degree.
Red will still fold to superior mass removals like Drown in Sorrow, though. Most of the red dudes are */2s at most, not to mention their spectres can easily survive from drowning.

Still no card to make use of for burger king, though. If only Pseudo Mama was cheaper, she would be a rather decent zombie producer.

@ Searing Blood: Oh look. A reverse [card]Pharika's Cure[/card]

It will have as much use as the aforementioned card, or perhaps a little more for being 3 damage to the dome. I will like the feeling when I burn off an opposing Phoenix and get mine back with just [mana]rr[/mana] at instant speed.

Of course, with Drown in Sorrow, toughness of 2 might not be as ideal as it used to.

Regrettably our dragon rare for this set is another bin card...

Forgestoker Dragon 4 :symr: :symr:
Creature - Dragon

Flying
1 :symr: : Forgestoker Dragon deals 1 damage to target creature. That creature can't block this combat. Activate this ability only if Forgestoker Dragon is attacking.

5/4
Someone said before that casual dragons breath fire, while competitive ones breath thunder. It isn't too far from the truth, I guess.

No comparison. VD sucked because the opponent could take damage and you got zip in terms of board position. The phoenix is an evasive creature on either side of Tribute. The question the opponent has is clock vs. recurrence...they have a creature to deal with one way or the other.
While a 5/5 is indeed a clock, I'm not fond with how it loses haste once its tribute is paid. You can actually view the choice as "5/5 flier" vs "3/3 flier with recurrence, and 3 damage to the head if you have no fliers".

We might as well just view the phoenix as a red 5/5 flier for 4cc. I just don't see how they will allow you to have uber persist haste flier with recurrence (Like, it can just stand up against a wrath effect while everything else crumbles). 5/5 might look like a lot back in the old days (Rathi Dragon for one), but these days powercreep is everywhere to worth the slot.

Thoughtseize can be a pain when your opening hand has just a single creature. Other than that, I'm sure it's a mindrape when I reveal a hand of 2 Cacklers and 2 Ashleys (And a Phoenix).

Removing a Magma Jet is actually a choice since it prevents us from scrying. And we all know how awesome scrying is in a deck that relies on topdecking burns.

Edit: Maximum of 6 lands here, since I run Mortar. Though most of the time, I'd prefer not to have that many.

Hate to admit it, but I run on coffee in the morning for workdays. Without those substances, I'll pretty much be limping until afternoon.

So this Todd guy dropped his job for a day of tournament. He might be stupid, but I have to respect him for that commitment. Actually knew a few individuals who went away from real life to work on their dreams. Like that one who put aside 3 months of her school life just to write e-books. She was actually successful, but I won't like to think the consequence when it was the other way round.

I don't think I have the gall (and insanity) to do that, personally. My job might not be the best there is, but I don't think I'm willing to lose it and be a freeloader again.
