It seems like your trying to play the same role as the GR decks except they do it better. I don't think Jeskai wants to be playing thunder break. I'd rather protect my 3drops or counter my opponents 4-5 drops.

I have been doing a lot of testing (our group is going to invitational this weekend, Im staying for pptqs). Secure is better post board. The worst matchup is (and by worst i mean toughest) is abzan decks (which are all moving towards fleecemane lion in the main), I want access to 4 disdainful strokes as the deck is really soft to elspeth. Valorous Stance kills everything Stroke counters, so i like have insurance vs a G1 eslpeth, stormbreath dragon. Not sure what else is all over the place.

Ran LSv list tonight, it was good. 3-1 finish losing a close one to abzan aggro. Wish it had more burn!

Is anyone brewing a jeskai variant for release? Double pptq weekend for me. I am either going to try tokens, or a jeskai tempo that is not much different from what I play now.

Abzan Control in our testing is still the boogie man.

I would worry about it IF tokens became a very popular, tier 1 deck. As it stands, Virulent Plague is not better than Drown in Sorrow, and SBs are already tight as it is.

From my testing, in order to reliably tap down their creatures, you have to keep in weaker spells postboard that would otherwise be sided out.

I wish I could figure out a way to fit anticipate into tempo or tokens, but I cant find anything to cut.

3-1 tonight beat GR twice, Naya Aggro from GP (i think this matchup is tough for us) and lost to my test partner UB on a risky keep Game 3.

I was on a mull to 6, on the draw... this was my keep : shivan reef, 3 rabble masters, stormbreath, valours stance. I think it was an ok keep, what do you guys think?

[deck]
3 Soulfire Grandmaster
2 Seeker
4 Rabble
4 Mantis
1 Ashcloud
2 Stormbreath

1 Sarkhan
1 Outpost Siege

4 WIld Slash
3 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke
3 Valorous Stance
1 Disdainful Stroke

3 Dig

24 Lands

SB
1 Ashcloud
1 End Hostilites
1 Elspeth
2 Anger
2 Brimaz
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Negate
2 Erase
1 Glare
1 valorous stance

[/deck]

Deck ran great. I have really been impressed with SGM, I find myself upping the count everytime I play.

I had the second Siege during my IQ win, and it was fine. I think you could still run it, I have just found that in Game 1s I usually dont want to cast it on turn 4. I actually won two game 1s tonight with a 2 drop into ascendancy.

3-0-1 tonight. Deck feels great.

Played this:

[deck]
4 Manits Rider
4 Rabble
3 Seeker
2 Soulfire Grandmaster

4 Wild Slash
3 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke

3 Valorous Stance
1 Disdainful Stroke
1 Outpost Siege
1 Jeskai Ascendency

2 Dig
1 Treasure Cruise

1 Elspeth
2 Sarkhan

24 lands

sb
1 outpost siege
2 anger
2 brimaz
2 negate
2 disfainful stroke
2 erase
1 glare
1 elspeth
1 valorous stance
1 end hostilities

[/deck]

Only change I would make is cut the treasure cruise for a 3rd dig.

deck is great, and honestly only loses to variance of not drawing lands.

Tokens is for sure a strong deck, but i dislike its Gx devo matchup.

here was my post from reddit comparing tokens vs tempo

"I prefer tempo for the current meta (I don't think one is strictly better than the other, however, in the current meta I think tempo is a much better deck).

Tokens is great, very explosive and is probably favored vs RW, but it's not as good as it used to be. The problem with Tokens, is that it relies HEAVILY on ascendancy. When the deck fails to draw one, it feels like a bad version of RW (and makes you wonder why you are playing the 3rd color). In the current meta, there is a lot of enchantment hate coming out of SBs (glare, erase, abzan advantage, reclamation sage, sultai charm and back to nature) due to the popularity of one of the best decks, RW. So postboard, your ascendancies are already weaker. Previously, you could go bigger and play elspeth, counters and end hostitlies to beat devotion decks, but thanks to whisperwood, this is not a reliable strategy anymore. imo, tokens has a HORRIBLE matchup vs green/x devo decks, and in order to fix it, your game plan has to change so much, at that point you might as well be playing tempo.

What I like about tempo, is that it has a very proactive gameplan vs GR, Abzan variants, RW and Control decks. The SB can be tuned to meta and play style. I think in the current standard format being the one applying the pressure as opposed to being reactive is where you want to be. Token/Tempo nut draws are both fairly similar, however tempo's mediocre draw is just much better."

4 Seeker of the Way
1 Soulfire Grand Master
3 Stormbreath Dragon

1 Abzan Advantage
4 Lightning Strike

3 Disdainful Stroke
1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion

Played the list above last night to another 3-1 finish, beating UB, Temur Ascendancy and Abzan (no caryatids list). Lost to a mirror who was more on the prowess route than the tokens one.

The MD was perfect honestly. I might try an anger in the SB over jeskai charm tonight during testing. PTQ tomorrow!

3 Seeker
3 Mentor
2 Rabble

4 Ascendancy

4 Stokes
2 Wild Slash
3 Lightning Strike
2 Jeskai Charm
1 Valorous Stance

4 Raise the Alarm
4 Hordeling Outburst

4 Treasure Cruise

24 Lands

SB
2 Mantis Rider
1 Keranos
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Valorous Stance
1 Jeskai Charm
2 Negate
3 Glare of Heresy
1 Elspeth
1 Erase[/deck]

Gonna try this out tonight after picking up mentors yesterday. Elspeth to me seems like the weakest card, I am not actually sure what matchups I want it in.

@Zem - I'm going to try this SB plan vs UW: +3 Glare +1 Erase +1 Charm +2 Negate -1 Stoke -2 Cruise (this card just seems a bit slow in the matchup) -1 Rabble -2 Outburst -1 Mentor

^^How does this look to you?

Here is my current token build after seeing this weekend's results. Hopefully I'll go play tuesday/thurs night. Found out there is a ptq this weekend, I will probably attend depending on how tues/thurs nights go.

[deck]3 Seeker
3 Rabble
1 Mantis Rider
1 Mentor

4 Ascendancy

4 Stokes
1 Wild Slash
4 Lightning Strike
2 Jeskai Charm
1 Valorous Stance

4 Raise the Alarm
4 Hordeling Outburst

4 Treasure Cruise

24 Lands

SB

2 Mantis Rider
1 Keranos
3 Disdainful Stroke
2 Valorous Stance
1 Arc Lightning
2 Negate
2 Glare of Heresy
1 Elspeth
1 Erase[/deck]

1 Slot missing could be: Mentor, Rabble #4, or Seeker #4, Wild Slash #3, Lightning Strike #4, Chandra

What do we thnk?
Ran the list above last night to a 3-1 finish. Beating UW heroic, Mardu Tokens and Mono U control (super scrub), and lost to a Temur list.

Mentor was obscene when I cast it against both UW heroic and Mardu. I am going to pick up 3 of them on my lunch break. After last nights testing, this is what I am going to try out for Thursday night in preparation for my PTQ on Saturday.

[deck]
3 Seeker
4 Mentor
1 Mantis Rider

4 Ascendancy

4 Stokes
1 Wild Slash
4 Lightning Strike
2 Jeskai Charm
1 Valorous Stance

4 Raise the Alarm
4 Hordeling Outburst

4 Treasure Cruise

23 Lands

SB
2 Mantis Rider
1 Keranos
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Valorous Stance
1 Jeskai Charm
2 Negate
3 Glare of Heresy
1 Elspeth
1 Erase
[/deck]

Negate was very good for me vs both Mardu and UW heroic. I am wondering if I wan't to cut erase (although it is good against dealing with ordeals at instant speed, whip and or sieges/coursers out of Green decks) for the 3rd negate so I have another card for control and token style decks.

The mantis Riders are in for the Green X matchups with courser, and for UB control. It's possible that maybe those should be Sarkhan?

There were a couple times when I was unable to stoke due to there being mentor tokens out and not rabbles. it is possible that maybe I cut a lightning strike, for a 2nd wild slash. I'm iffy about cutting a stoke because x/4 creatures can be hard to deal with, and it is essentially my only answer to SBD (possibly another reason to add a sarkhan or two?).

Thoughts?
