I've had bad luck with every kind of patterened sleeve I've ever bought. Here's hoping these ones don't fit that trend for you.
I second that thought. It will take something insane to make me get rid of my KMC Hyper Mattes. Also be careful using them in tourneys. If the image goes all the way to the edge of the card, it is easy to get penalized for marked cards if any of the images is off in the slightest.

More and more, I realize I need to become a Judge. I've been talking with the local L2s, and apparently it wouldn't take long for me to reach L2 since I have most of the rules knowledge and have a firm grasp of most of the penalties/corrections.

I'd certainly like to be mailed a grand every couple months.
They don't mail judge promos. You get them in packets for judging at large events.

Becoming a judge is actually pretty
tricky. Jabberwocky has been trying to pass the L1 test for a few months now, and he always has trouble because the way some of the questions are worded are really, really, REALLY fucking stupid.
This is because some of the questions judges get asked are really, really, REALLY fucking stupid.
As a former judge who dropped down to rules advisor since I never ran many tournaments, I agree completely with this statement. I do miss the promos, though.

Reasonable answers. Hay Fever does indeed suck. My states was 400 miles away from me. Wasn't going to drive that far for something like that.

I know that feeling all too well, Valdarith. I am missing this weekend's Open and Game Day because my sister is getting married. Such disappointment. I might make the TCGPlayer event on Sunday if I am lucky.

Monsters is still a very viable list. The two decks I play (Burn, UWR Control) have a lot of trouble with it. Are you straight GR or are you going Jund for better kill spells?

My opinion is wasted in this conversation. I only know how to tap Mountains and turn dudes sideways. Admittedly, I'm a simple player, but I'm the best there is at what I do.

*snikt*
There is not one thing wrong with tapping Mountains. All you need to know vs Death & Taxes is to Bolt the Mother and Smash the Vial. The rest is just counting to 20.

Ugh, another 3-1 finish at FNM tonight. I know I should be pretty satisfied with a 75% overall win rate the past few months but I am just terribly disappointed.

The first is correct. You will lose the Nautilus and the spell is countered as there are no legal targets. Once a permanent with the "phantasmal" rule gets targeted, there is no saving it.

3-1 tonight with UWR Midrange. Keranos is a beast. I have no idea how I will beat GR(x) Monsters though.

Dual land prices will continue to trend upward until either WotC makes more of them or the Legacy format crashes. It is probably a safe buy at $40 each. Plateaus are among the cheapest of the duals because of how little they see play so they will rise more slowly.

Journey into Nyx has made me pretty set in my want to play UW tempo. I thought Esper Humans was sweet but UW does sweeter stuff. (Like play [card]Profit // Loss[/card], which is a megasweet card) I like decks where my opponent can say "Okay, I go to five" and I get to retort with "Actually go to dead?"
I know I will likely be on URw myself next week. I want to play a tempo/midrange game with Keranos but I might be better off starting with a control shell. I need to cast as many Izzet Charm and Turn/Burn as I can while still legal.

This is my current iteration:
[deck]
Creatures (10)
4 Frostburn Weird
4 Boros Reckoner
2 Keranos, God of Storms

Instant/Sorcery (17)
4 Azorius Charm
2 Izzet Charm
4 Lightning
Strike
4 Warleader's Helix
3 Turn // Burn

Enchantments (5)
1 Detention Sphere
2 Banishing Light
2 Assemble the Legion

Planeswalkers (5)
3 Ral Zarek
2 Jace, Architect of Thought

Lands (23)
4 Steam Vents
3 Hallowed Fountain
3 Sacred Foundry
3 Temple of Enlightenment
4 Temple of Epiphany
3 Temple of Triumph
3 Mutavault

Sideboard
3 Boros Charm
4 Counterflux
2 Wear // Tear
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Anger of the Gods
2 Blind Obedience[/deck]

Agreed about the Modern prices being out of control. I bought my fetches 2 years ago, but if I had to start now I'd be hurting.

My only gripe with Legacy is that everything is so fast, my favorite archetype (aggro midrange) isn't viable.

Unless it is?
I'm of the opinion that Eidolon of the Great Revel could change the face of red decks in Legacy. Maybe a shift away from burn and toward more creature-centric strategies?
I don't think it will change all that much. We have had that ability in Pyrostatic Pillar for a long time now. I
will likely change mine out for Eidolons for the added pressure but I don't think it will change all that much.

There are some Jund decks that would likely qualify as aggro midrange. Other options I could see would be Maverick, Merfolk, Goblins or Death and Taxes.

Skyrocketing prices give it nearly the expense of Legacy without being able to do all the cool and powerful things that Legacy does. It used to be all boring grindy midrange and is even worse now that it is nothing but combo and things to fight it. Seemingly random bans that rarely do what WotC says they want to do with the format.

In short, it has all the downsides of Standard, all the downsides of Legacy, and very few of the benefits of either.

They will never reprint Hymn. I think they are regretting reprinting Thoughtseize and Hymn is miles worse.

Not being a fan doesn't change the fact that it is a major format that I have to stay on top of. You are also a good deal more entertaining than all the Mono B and UW matchups on SCG that early in the morning.

inb4 I get trolled about Legacy being better
I would hardly call speaking the truth trolling but I guess it is a matter of preference. It is very true that Legacy is hard to get into. All these promos released with the MOCS and whatnot have at least been helping with Legacy proliferation online but they do really need to do another set of Master's Edition drafts to keep things going.

I am on record as not being a fan of Modern. I play Standard simply because that is what most everyone else plays.

You speak of Mindsparker. I tried to get that to work but just couldn't.

He was indeed fortunate to get good matchups. Burn in Legacy is very much a meta call. I think he had Sneak and Show as well as ANT/TES covered but really had nothing against Reanimator or Elves. That lone Guerrilla Tactics is a bit insane unless you know you are facing a ton of discard.

Is an off-color Ophidian bad right now? Only time will tell.
It isn't Ophidian. You don't draw the card, you have to use it that turn.

Everytime burn makes top 8 in legacy it seems to be a janky list without fetches and with weird card choices XD it's annoying to almost never see competent burn players in the format, but it's also funny
There is nothing wrong with going without fetchlands. It is probably even wise to do so in a meta filled with Stifle. A few of the other cards did seem wierd. Some of the decisions he made on camera were indeed strange as well(Surgical vs Delver, going so all-in on Sulfuric/Pyrostatic). I suppose it isn't that big of a deal though. If the playerbase at large sees this kind of thing and loses respect for the deck, the only thing that will happen is they will get
blindsided when they get annihilated by a more tuned version.

God that Cardboard Crack from Wednesday is so accurate for me today. 3-1 tonight with an untested UWr deck. Cast my first Rev and DSphere in sanctioned play today. It felt so awkward. At least I got to confuse most of my opponents when they saw me lay a UW Temple on T1 when they kept anti-burn hands.

I shuffle my opponent's decks at FNM. However, it is usually 3-4 careful mashes and a cut. We have too many players at our LGS that, in my opinion, don't shuffle adequately in the presence of their opponent. I do it as a safeguard as we have had a small number of proven cheaters in the past.
