Well it’s as someone posted it’s a vicious circle. Less posters, less content less visitors. I mean how many posters did the mods drive off 3-5 years ago.

It's kind of just the death of forums in general. Reddit filled that niche in a better way for many people. I'm too old to switch now, but most prefer getting the news and feeding off people smarter than they are directly, which is what forums were all about, but they've largely been made obsolete.

Turns out when you ban people for arbitrary reasons, other people tend to take notice of it and bail on your forums too. I saw a lot of that back then.

Often a lot of their quality posters were the types of people who tended to be a little edgy and didn't fit into their neat little niche of "can't ever say anything that could even be considered remotely insulting or disagreeable" and when you hand out warnings and bans for such small things, those people will just gravitate towards the website where people can't silence you just for being a little rough around the edges.

A lot of forums practiced this type of thought policing, and people got sick of it. It's a huge part of the reason that Reddit is as successful as it is - people can't ban you for disagreeing with them, you can just make another free account and commit basically nothing to it.

I was pretty irritated when I tried to use my email for Curse Voice and couldn't because I was banned on MTGSalvation tbh

1. Mtgsalvation going to the new website-thing (sorry, I literally don't know what to describe it as; literally the site went through a change of format). I remember this caused players to be kicked off, it didn't load for others, and there was a general negative reaction from a lot of people. A lot of forum topics got mixed around or lost. Not saying it was a bad decision, but I remember it making some people sour.

But yeah basically:

1) reddit killed forums

2) The level of autistiquery (is that even a word) MTGS new owners and staff during the transition further aggravated issue 1)

I mean, I've been checking the site, who was the genius who decided to terminate Debate?

The retards that dwelled there were probably the most loyal customers of that site.

Those guys just loved to argue and to argue about stuff. It was one of the site sections that better fared during the switch to curse :facepalm2:

That analogy does not hold. Upon hearing "fire!" in a crowded theater, a reasonable person could well panic. No reasonable person would be inspired to commit arson due to that post. The intents of each situation are not analogous either. The person shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre intends to cause panic, while mehungary just intended to make a joke.

Doesn't someone actually have to be suggesting or advocating violence to be causing any "clear and present danger" (since you used the crowded theater example)? Are not obvious rhetorical signs of levity enough? It obviously doesn't really matter because this is a message board about a card game, but it's really frustrating to see the letter of the law enforced at the expense of its intent.

@Mods-

Is there a quick way to delete all my posts on this website? I no longer wish my online identity to be associated with your website in any form. While I do not accept or condone harassment, I also do not accept or condone not allowing an open, real discussion on this as well as having this website be nothing more than a SJW echoing chamber

No idea who this Jeremy guy is and I don’t give a *****. This whole article reads like some weak ass social justice bull***** attempt to shame people who disagree with your opinion. It’s crystal clear the author has no ******* clue who or what the actual Nazis were. You disgrace the deaths of millions by calling your political enemies Nazis. Final note. Dear author **** off.

I reported the post for promoting illegal activity to the moderator who infracted me. You don't get away with repeatedly advocating for violence, even if you're a moderator. Unlike most of the comments flagged by moderators in this comment section, the original post is actually against the site rules.

Actually, this article is the entire problem. Neo-Nazis? Really? Way to buy into propaganda. And the Trump reference about "locker room talk" - way to push your political agendas on a card game forum and assume your opinions are the status quo, and the only right way to think. That's why everyone is sick of liberals and SJWs. Arrogance and ignorance. No one gives a damn bro, we're here for card games. Get over yourselves and off your righteous soapbox.
