I didn't realize they had gone off the deep end until I saw Teia's article on reddit the other day. Mind you, they had probably gone off the deep end before I left salvation, but I really didn't pay attention or care at the time. What a weird way to be reminded that these corners of the internet still existed.

Teia's always had some decent points, she's just really bad at letting them show through her intense view of the way society should be.

Teia got me banned because I was trying to make peace and be friends with her and she told the admins that I was trolling. JK.

I'm just impressed that the gutter's plant in the mod lounge has panned out after all this time. It took five hard-fought years for Teia to make it happen, but the gutter has finally destroyed MTGS.

Haha, no, of course not. She was in the Gutter, then pretty quickly moved away from that after becoming a mod. When she first got hired on (alongside Talore, if I remember correctly), there was much wringing of hands at the thought of modding gutterites.

The Gutter was pretty much a disaster, but there was nothing wrong with the people there, and definitely no master plan. In my experience, any time you ask the question "Did the Gutter plan this!?" the answer is no. The whole way in which the mods (and many others) thought of the Gutter was flawed because of the assumption that they were somehow coordinated instead of just dog piling for social reasons (or legitimate reasons, take your pick). Okay, /tangent

The problem with that was people with banning power who used said power to silence dissenting opinions.

I think about the most you can really say is that those with dissenting opinions might have been scrutinized a little more than others*. No one ever got banned for following the rules**.

*especially habitual trolls.

There's been too much of that as of late. Not just there, of course.
It's kind of crazy just how closed-minded people are sometimes. Censorship is never the answer.

My original suspension that got upgraded to a ban was for "evading the censor by way of backwards Spanish smiley Morse code", but okay, if you say so...

The upgrade came because I was "trolling my appeal thread". All I wanted was a dragon trophy... which I did get.

Oh, and Scumbag got instabanned for telling us that someone from the Admin Lounge had leaked the sale of the site, that was probably in the hidden rules section.

Why would there not be lying, backstabbing and manipulation on a children’s card game forum ?

Of all the things, I think that was a little more justified. I don't think a ban was appropriate, but that had the potential to actually hurt the site.

But they were looking for reasons to ban people that looked somewhat reasonable.

As for trolling your appeal thread, I don't remember what anymore, but I read the thread at the time, I remember you doing something that pissed everyone off. I don't remember what though. Also that's a really stupid reason to ban someone. Lol.

I remember reading an article awhile ago that being banned from a place or a community that is important to you triggers the same emotional response as being broken up with.

A few of those bans (yours included), I think, were carried out with the mindset of "is this person good for the site overall?" which is justifiable, but probably wrong.
