Sene top 8'd GP Lisbon this weekend and, since I think we're hoping to breed a base of people who do accomplishments in the Magical world, I think it's worth celebrating members who do well in well-to-do Magic events. Congrats on your high-placing this past weekend, Sene!

The coverage was sadly brief (as in I couldn't find the semifinal match coverage in the blog post on the mothership), but it was fun to read nonetheless! Congrats Sene. :)

EDIT: as an aside, Wizards has the singularly most un-navigable website I occasion to visit.

Saw part of his first Top 8 match onsite, but had to leave before the end. Happy to see one of our forum members succeed, and in my hometown, no less! Top 4 is not shady at all!

I caught 1/8 of a second of the finals on Twitch before I realized the event was limited and promptly switched "channels".

Agree. I routinely feel like a moron when I get onto Wizards site because I cannot find simple things that should be on the front page.

Agreed. Before the revamp I thought it was manageable, but since then I don't go there any more than I have to.

Congrats, Sene.

I actually thought about the chance of meeting you there, but forgot I could just come here and PM you about it....

Anyway, Congrats Sænæ :)

Yup, the best place

We decided to call you voltan because you claim not to be votan and the name totallynotvotan is too hard to type.
I guess we'll just have to meet some other time (PTQ?).
Or we don't meet? Unless there's something urgent you need to tell me in person and can't be said by PM*?

*in which case sure, why not?

Not really, no. I just like meeting people that I've talked to online. Connecting a face to a username is nice.
I actually organized an MTGS get together on the Last GP Lisbon. I didn't do it in this one because no one was attending.
Well, except for Sænæ, but I met him.

I've hurt good people for pools worse than that one with the Angel and Triumvirate. Give it to me!

The GP sealed pool had four cards: Angel, Archon, mythic Guildmage, Grove of the Guardian. The rest was mostly filler, but it obviously didn't matter.

My first round opponent (or round four) played Rakdos' Return on turn 5, Mizzium Mortars on turn 6 in game one. Won that game :p

First draft deck looked way too durdly, but it was powerful and got the job done. Was Golgari, opened Trostani P2P1, took Trostani, and splashed him.

In the second draft I got Trostani P3P4. Deck seemed sweet, so I felt pretty confident about going 2-1.

Top 8 deck... I dunno. Never really tried that kinda deck before. Didn't seem amazing, to be honest. I tried to go Selesnya, but it wasn't really there, so had to stretch out a bit for playables. Luckily my quarterfinal opponent's deck was pretty bad and he didn't play too well either, so I got my flight
anyway.

What did you target with The Angel?

Did you find either of the mythic Guildmage's abilities to be relevant?

Could you share some general meta tips for someone who hasn't done a Sealed since ROE please?

i would have really struggled with not splashing the 2 stab wounds but you definitely made the right choice. i can see what you mean with your first draft but it has a lot of redundancy and has a solid late game with trostani and the 3 token making spells. treasure find is a great card for that deck to get back trostani if necessary. second draft has some ridiculous token making ability but it actually seems slower to me than the first one. it's very mana hungry with trostani, regen abilities, and wanting to keep mana up for tricks. it also doesn't have the same ability to stall as the first deck so i can understand the 2-1 finish.

it's funny how on mtgo i'll end up with 27 playables and then in a top 8 draft i'll end up running restless bones as my beats

I had the Stab Wounds, Abrupt Decay & Dreg Mangler + some swamps sleeved up and ready in case I faced Pack Rat or Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage. But yeah, the thing is that in this format, it's all about playing big, impactful cards. You don't necessarily want to play the colors with a million removal, you want the colors that has bombs. So while the black (and red!) were tempting, I'm pretty sure the GWu deck was the best for the format.

@Shalako: guess I mostly ate all my opponent's guys and smashed face  the guildmage was obviously rather insane too. Both abilities are highly relevant broken.

huh, my experience didnt match yours, my bombs did some work but my two stab wounds were a BRICK HOUSE. they took me to x and 1 on day 1 but sadly i couldnt pull my shit together for the draft rounds. Passing tom martell the deck he used to obliterate me was kinda cool though :)
