"*" denotes an experienced player
---

This game shall be centered around new players who wish to get into Mafia and get some experience under their belt. As such, a composition of 3-5 experienced players and 4-6 new players is preferred.

To in as a newbie, reply: /in as newbie

To in as an experienced player, reply: /in as experienced

To in as a mentor, reply: /in as mentor

Simple, right?

Experienced players are expected to teach newbie players Mafia theory and answer any questions that may arise if they can. Experienced players are not allowed to misinform about
theory and mechanics regardless of their alignment.
e.g."yeah you should totally self hammer as town lolol"

This game will be Semi-Open Format based around the Matrix6 setup shown here: http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Matrix_6

Get some newbie FoS guys. Tell them that this game is more fun than they could ever imagine. It would be sweet to have 5 people in the game who have never played before.

Also, you should open this up to mentors. If an experienced member doesn't want to play (quite a few come to mind who haven't yet signed up), they could mentor a beginner. They can't share reads or whatever, but it's really helpful to have an impartial third party to offer advice on tactics and gameplay or to just advise them not to make stupid choices. Pretty sure I would have won my first game (as scum) if I'd had a mentor.

I'm not familiar with mentors.

Sounds like a hydra thing.

How does it work?

Posted: Wed Sep 25, 2013 8:54 pm
by Stardust
Not hydra. The mentor and the... mentee (?) have a quicktopic or otherwise that they can talk in (the mod should have access too to make sure the mentor's not going too far). The mentee is doing all of the posting and all of the work in-game. The mentor answers questions and offers advice on how to approach the game or how to hunt scum effectively. They can't share their reads or build cases for the mentee. They just share general mafia knowledge like common scum tells, basic game design, how analyze a wagon, what WIFOM or anything else means, or offering advice on how to effectively use a PR (or nightkill)... that sort of thing. Stuff that anyone who's played a few games will know, just to get them up to speed that much faster and level the playing field somewhat.

Sounds okay.

Actually I don't know. That's kinda what the experienced players are for albeit on a less-personal level. I don't want the game to get cluttered with noobs+experienced v. experienced. Sounds difficult to manage.

What happens when Iso is the Night 1 kill and I'm the Night 2? Who will tend the flock? ;)

Seriously though, games full of newbies tend to stagnate in the later Days when no one really has any direction or is sure what to look for. Mentors can help with that. But it's up to you, I'm happy either way.

Ring a ding ding! That's a full set.

I'll leave things in stasis for a day or so to make sure anyone who wants to mentor can /in as such.

This is also a really good excuse for me to not have the game thread up until tomorrow evening. :teach:
