Fire and Ice Mafia - Ready to Fire!

Fire and Ice Mafia!
A Normal game for 13 players

This game is a Multiball(multiple mafia faction) Open setup with the following roles:

2 Fire Mafia Goons
2 Ice Mafia Goons
8 Vanilla Townies
1 Town Doctor

If you opened this expecting a Song of Ice and Fire theme, I apologize.

Game-Specific Mechanics
- The Fire and Ice Mafia factions are not aligned with one another. Neither faction may win as long as the other exists.
- Both Mafia factions get a Nightkill. If both factions target the same player, the kills will fail.
- Neither Mafia Faction is Nightkill-immune.
This game will likely be injected with original flavour written by
myself.

This is a known balanced setup and has been reviewed multiple times. There will be no bastardly shenanigans. No lies or misdirection. Just exactly what it says on the tin.

This game has a prerequisite of at least One completed game(here or off-site) and a decent record of not being a flaky game-hopper.

Never tried a multi-faction game (outside a SK, I guess). Dibs on the doctor.

sounds like fun! This should end up going more quickly than a normal 13 player game, right?

Two mafia factions = two mafia kills. So, yeah. Likely.

Except that I'll be the Doc and own them every Night. I really like the mechanic that both kills targeting the same player won't have any effect. Means I don't have to act scummy Day 1 to dodge the nightkill. ;)

are we allowed to talk pre-game strategy theory in here? If so, I want to argue with Stardust :-p

Knock yourselves out. Just remember that you may not be on the same team once the PMs go out.

Bring it! If Kaze wants it out he can always move it to the mafia theory thread.

Seriously though, I'm wondering if the Doc outing themselves Day 1 might be the right choice (depending on if they might actually be a target normally, of course).

I'd think that you won't want to act scummy at all. Seems to me it's good for Fire to kill Ice or vice versa, so being seen as scum is no benefit - you either get lynched or killed by the other scum team.

I'd think the Doc would have a huge target on his/her chest

Right! That's my point! My comment was glib, but some experienced players will intentionally act just a little bit scummy with the thought that if the scum think they're a lynch candidate in future Days, they won't be targeted by the nightkill. Look at me in DtR mafia. Through much of Day 1 the scum were considering killing me. Later in the Day I'd drawn a bit of negative attention and suddenly I wasn't such a good target and got a pass to Day 2.

The opposite is true for this game. Any obvious nightkill will likely be obvious for both mafia teams. Like the doctor, for example. As mafia, would you be willing to risk losing your kill by choosing the obvious target? Maybe not.

well, in DTR Mafia you got a pass to day 2 because it would have been dumb not to kill anybody with a confirmed vig shot, not knowing whether it was 1-shot or more. We pretty much had a duty to protect my Godfather role at all costs.

But I see what you're saying. Some good points :)

gives an additional axis of thought to process and check against. I like it - this will be fun :)

Yeah, that's true about the lynchproof. Bad example maybe.

It's gonna be a tough game to play as mafia. Open setups are generally easier since you can predict what roles will target where (rather than guess what roles might exist and then guess who they'll target), but now you've got to juggle that with how another mafia team thinks. Think too much alike and you're in trouble. Maybe the best strategy is just to kill people who are going after your team specifically? I dunno.

For sure it'll skew behavioural analysis for the town though too. It'll be harder to clear people when one scum team can legitimately hunt the other.

Don't forget that if both mafia teams target the claimed Doctor and the kill fails they'll have no idea if it's because they negated each other or if the real doctor protected the fakeclaimed one. :teach:

They will have some idea, because the doc can only stop one kill. If no kill happens, they negated each other. Someone else would have to die if the doc succeeded.

@ everyone! I am going to claim Doctor in my first post of the game. It will probably be a real claim, but just in case it's a fake claim, please don't counterclaim me. kthx.

Vote rcwraspy.

Kaze, if the doctor and both mafia teams targeted the same player, nothing would happen?

Posted: Thu Jan 09, 2014 9:34 pm
by Kazekirimaru
Yep. The kills occur simultaneously and negate instantly. So essentially you have Doctor protect -> Kills enacted -> Negation. The Protect is basically superfluous.

Yep.

I'll stop provoking thoughts into the open, now. Said enough~

Oh, almost forgot: flake slots will be modkilled. 72 hours without posting gets a prod. Don't respond to the prod = modkilled. No second chances. No force-replacements. You're also not likely to get into another game of mine for a while.

So only /in if you can commit.

Does this game really start in august? That might be an issue as I will be in training or working first year shifts at PD. I don't want to say no as it might be a error in month?

8/13 is referring to slots filled. Eight /in, thirteen slots.
