Once every player has chosen their two cards - and there is at least one antitown role in the game (if all town, abandon or reshuffle) - all players inform the moderator of their role/alignment combination and any roles with partners are informed of their partners.

At the start of Day 1, every player's discarded card is publicly revealed.

balance not guaranteed, blah blah blah

alright, im gonna write up the signup thread now, go ahead and take me of el-listo. im having a hard time finishing up my hipster mafia anyway, and this is a fun, variable size game.

I think rezombad wants to play again since he keeps bugging me. His game got 9 people to signup, and that's including getting a couple out of the woodwork. What's people's comfort level/desire to play in more than one game at once? Do people think we should start a second game at this point?

by Dechs Kaison
I think I can handle two games at once.

I was playing another game on a different forum while this Greatest Idea is still going on, but that's over. It was pretty easy to keep the two threads separate in my mind; all the names were different and the forum was different, too. I don't know if it'll be too hard to see the same people in a second game and treat them differently.

I'm willing to try it, at least.

Who's game is up next?

imopen2 if he wants to try it again. We might be better off sticking to smaller games though, especially if we're trying to run two at the same time. I personally don't think this will work either way, but the next 9 player in line is you.

imopen, do you want to try signups again? Would you rather wait and let Dechs run a small one to test the waters?

Actually, with Christmas coming up, now is probably the worst time to start a new game.

Probably won't get a game to start until January, but signs ups could get running. Imopen, care to try it?

I mean, I'm game to try, but it doesn't seem like we can get 14 people I play..maybe I should retool my setup to just be 8-10 players?

Probably true. Retool as you wish, I suppose.

Whatever the next game is, I'm in. Unless it's my game. Then I'll mod. I guess. I'd ask for a backup, of course.

Yeah post signups, with the condition that you may take a few days to retool the game after sign ups close if we don't have enougj

Added a game of my own to the list, Planechase Mafia. You can probably imagine the gimmick on this one.

Added.

Since Wraith recently reappeared, I'll send him a PM to see if he's interested in trying to run his game. Otherwise, Dechs, you're on decks.

Har har. I see what you did thar.

But that's cool. I've never modded a game before, but I think I can handle it. Is it OK if I bounce questions off you if I'm not sure what to do with certain situations?

Posted: Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:51 pm
by Stardust
Of course.

In my very first game one of my scum buddies (also his first game) was killed by the mod (his first time modding) for editing his post only 5 minutes later. It was unintentional and completely harmless, so a stern reminder would have been just fine, but the mod just didn't know how to handle it.

So, yeah, good idea to have someone check things out before you overreact. I'm sure you'll do fine though.

Best advice I can give is to give confirmations for night actions via pm, do your vote counts on a consistent basis and decide before hand how night actions resolve.

Yeah, curse software is never going away. I look forward to the slow trickle of mafia players over here.

Our days aren't too short in comparison, I believe. But we haven't had the base necessary to run more than a couple medium sized games.

What is the problem with the forum software over at mtgs?

Posted: Mon Mar 02, 2015 5:24 am
by Azrael
Mainly people hate the fact that there's no full editor option, I guess. And it crashes and eats posts sometimes.

I just posted over there (from my phone, of course). I'm surprised that WG called this mafia forum a failed experiment when we're still running years later, even if it's not at full steam.

I'm not about to research the problems the mafia community there is having since the site is a pain to navigate by phone, but I of course would welcome new players. It seems to be true that this site and MTGS seem to be the only ones to play mafia in exactly this way. I feel like it's a pretty natural fit for an alternative (I've been happy here), but I guess everyone will have to make their own choice on that. For sure there will be some players who resist the idea just because of this site's history, which is a shame.

Also I think the multi quote function over their is still broken, as are a few other things that are pretty important to mafia that I can't currently remember the specifics of.

Posted: Mon Mar 02, 2015 6:33 am
by Azrael
Multi-quote works now, ISO works too. But an alliance seems like a win-win.

Y'all should come here. The game I played there is my absolute last. That forum software is awful, and worse for playing mafia.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just move completely?

We'd lose far too much recruiting potential, and all capacity to retrieve returning older players.

Posted: Tue Mar 03, 2015 3:53 am
by Mcdonalds
Fair, but I can't imagine the mod staff there would approve of that

Posted: Tue Mar 03, 2015 4:24 am
by rezombad
ISO might be okay if he's still there. Megs would vote hell no.

I could see game threads on mtgs having the op be a link to the real op (and game) on this site and bumping the mtgs thread with a crossposted vote count, lynch scene, etc.
