The ability could lead to some great curve out's on the right one and two drops for Constructed.

Maybe this could be a thing if UG gets decently curved creatures.

The simic one drop will be U/G, 0/1 with Evolve
seems like a pretty good mechanic. Also seems like it works pretty well with Unleash creatures if some sort of RUG aggro deck shows up depending on how well the creatures curve.

What do you think the odds are the 1 or 2-drop will have a mana ability, a la "tap, remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: add one mana of any color to your mana pool"? Possibly a wall?

it would probably have to etb with X +1/+1 counters, but it could work. I doubt it'll be a 1 drop a la bop, but a 2 mana creature of some kind would be neat. If it were a wall, it would be cool to have the clause "if this creature has X +1+/+1 counters on it, it loses defender" to stick with an evolution flavor.

I like to think the Loses Defender guy will be something with high power, low toughness, and will have "remove a counter from ~, it loses defender for the turn." Probably won't happen in G/U, but unlike most of the uses I can think of for the mechanic, it'd have build potential (although perhaps even then a bit, as Iesus said, a bit Johnnytastic).
