Didn't see this here!

Did you enjoy the Gatecrash Prerelease? Great! Now let's jump forward a few months and talk about what's going to happen at the Dragon's Maze Prerelease, because it's not going to be exactly like Gatecrash and Return to Ravnica.

Here's what's different:

All Ten Guilds

When you walk in to a Dragon's Maze Prerelease, you'll get to select from all ten guilds of Ravnica. Then, while supplies last, you'll get a guild pack. Each guild pack will be built to support two different guilds.

One Prerelease Card

Everyone who plays in a Dragon's Maze Prerelease will get the same alternate-art promo foil card, while supplies last. This card will not be playable in your Prerelease
deck.

No Basic Land in Booster Packs

Wait... that sounds kind of negative. Let's rephrase it.

Dragon's Maze Booster Packs All Contain Nonbasic Lands

That's better! The fifteenth card in Dragon's Maze packs isn't basic land; it's nonbasic land. All ten guildgates will be showing up (with the Dragon's Maze expansion symbol), as will all ten shocklands from Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash (with their Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash symbols). They'll show up at rates about like their original rarity. There's also a mythic rare land from Dragon's Maze that will show up there sometimes!

The Maze

There's also a maze! Players (that's you) will work collectively to advance their chosen guild through the Implicit Maze each round. There are prizes for each guild that gets all the way through the maze, and special prizes for the first guild that does it. And when the maze is completed, all participating players will receive a premium (foil) basic land promo card!

I mean, do these gimmicks actually draw in any players? I don't think anybody is going to talk their significant other or parents to let them go based on the fact that they'll be helping their team make new marks on a fucking whiteboard, but I could be wrong.

Wonder why two guilds per pack, instead of one.

Has to be some flavor reason, I presume.

Maybe because you get both RtR and Gatecrash boosters to go with it. Since Dragon's maze is a small set it seems likely you're not playing sealed/drafting just that.

I'm assuming the shocklands aren't in the set aka can't be your pack rare, they're just an extra gimmick prize you can get in place of your guildgate?

that is my understanding of this attempt at selling more booster packs and raising odds of people buying packs.

according to a tweet seds sent out yesterday, the distribution is 1/2 as likely to open a shockland compared to a non-DM booster, so your odds are actually pretty good given that a shockland is in your land slot.

i strongly support this non-basic land idea. it will make drafting a lot more fun since you will have a better chance at a playable rare rather than trying to debate rare drafting the shock vs a common/uncommon for your deck

This sounds fun. Maybe I just love gimmicks too much though... nah!

It would be nice if shocks went down in price because of this but I doubt it will be a big hit
