Hot Deals Hub

This OP will hopefully change over time, but for now I'd like to establish this as a hub for "Hot Deals" that you may see online, be it a sharing place for various Magic online store coupons, low or underpriced card singles, deep discounts on sealed product/s, etc. Sort of a Black Friday/Cyber Monday master list, but year-round and only for MTG.

It's currently Cyber Monday. The only store I've noticed deep discounts on based on email lists reminders is AlterRealityGames. They've threatened to cut prices on reduced price singles until their stock of each item is sold out. RTR boxes are selling for $85, and most other Standard sets are selling for the same or less as of last night. They were also offering Dragon Shields 100ct boxes for $7, which is a price I haven't seen associated with them since stores first started selling them.

Channelfireball also has reasonable discounts on playsets of cards
and foreign language items. Their prices are more close to TCGPlayer low values as opposed to true discounts, but the sale guarantees a playset of many items at that low price (though most items are discounted after gaining significantly in value after RTR release).

Please feel free to post coupon codes and sale items/hot buys here.

If you come across the Issue #3 of Spell Thief (the one with Standstill), the promo is selling on eBay for $10 already and is only likely to go up unless Standstill becomes completely invalid.

I would also pick up the promo Turnabout in today's issue of the Magic comic (Path of Vengeance #1) as Turnabout is a key component of eternal combos.

SCG's x-mas specials are going on until x-mas. Most of them are nothing to write home about, but I just picked up 20 Jace, Architect of Thought for $15 a piece, which is more than a dollar less than the lowest-selling store on TCGPlayer. There are 4 left at this time. They also have Geralf's Messenger at $5.99, which I think is a good price maybe but I can't be asked to look that up right now.

SCG has restocked their Jace, Architect of Thought, so my original claim that there were only 4 left is now greatly exaggerated. If you're looking to save on Jace, the sale on SCG will price it lower than any other site (assuming you can account for the shipping).

aside from metamorph, gideon, image sphinx, and scars block swords all of those cards are candidates for reprint in Modern Masters. some of those prices may not be comparable to TCG player prices, so be wary.

SCG has Judge Foil bitterblossom for 15

Other than that you can save 10 on Judge foil Bobs. Not much else that's a spectacular deal

starcity sp is still really, really good. Higher standards than I'd ever have

this

SP to SCG usually means like a small white nick somewhere.

also 2 dollar plows (wb)
you can save a chunk on some stuff, but most of it is just a small amount.

although 13 dollar bitterblossom is a great deal.

All Standard foils are 20% off on the last day of the SCG winter sale and they're mostly better than TGCplayer prices. I just went a little nuts with it and if you're a fiend like me, I recommend you do too.

Collector's Cache currently has the best deal on the Sorin vs Tibalt duel decks I've found: 89.99/box of 6, 17.99 (IIRC) per deck.

The deck contains a lot of first-printings of some non-foil alt-art Modern staples and cool cards, as well as Hellrider, Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, and Sulfuric Vortex. The decks are well worth the $20 asking price and I don't think it'd be difficult to piecemeal the decks out and make more than your money back.

I ordered the 6-deck box. I can understand if you were to pass on hot deals for this deck series since many decks tend to fall flat in value and Sorin is no Elspeth, but personally I think the deck is a good thing to put money into, my irrational love of Tibalt notwithstanding.

I love me some Tibalt and even though I already have my set foil, I will be picking up > or = 1 of these.

Tibalt is a really cool guy. It's actually pretty real in Aggro Loam, but unfortunately it's not chilling out.

Collector's Cache has upped their price by $5 but also most sites have sold out, so there you go.

SCG's March Madness sale currently has some (very) good deals on Modern and Legacy staples.
Their prices on Standard and most other cards are only so-so, though they had some deals on promo cards that were alright. But the Modern and Legacy cards are where it's at. I would recommend taking a look. I just picked up their remaining Inkmoth Nexi and a large chunk of their Birthing Pods (currently $2.99 versus a low of $4.00 everywhere else online), but there are still many pods left, as well as Hero of Bladehold, Karn Liberated (though his time may be over now that everyone is going UW), various Swords of X and Y, and current Modern staples that are at risk for, but not 100% likely, to be reprinted (as well as a handful of foils that will likely maintain value because they're original foils).

Primeval Titan foil from m12 is also on sale for $15, which may be worth picking up, though the GP promo and duplicate printing may
affect it somewhat, particularly since m12 is not its original printing.

SCG is having a summer sale. I picked up two lots of their 40 Ravnica shocklands yesterday (they avg out to 8.49/copy), and there are some good bargains to be had if you scour through individual cards.

Additionally, foil card prices on $3+ Modern foils are depressed on Modern Masters copies for all but the most high value cards in the set. I would pick up foil copies of cards from modern masters and assume that they're going to go up steadily until Modern Masters II or whatever.

Pretty much every online CCG store I have purchased cards from ever has been emailing out coupon codes for 10+% off their Magic stock. I can post some if anyone doesn't already get those emails. I would fish less for activity in the thread, but in all honesty I deleted the emails after receiving them because I need to save money to move in the next few months, so I'd have to dig through my trash bin to recover them and don't want to waste the time if no one wants them.

If you want to post a couple from time to time I would greatly appreciate it (not asking you to dig through old e-mails though). Almost every e-mail I use is disposable, so I don't get these coupons when I make purchases.

SCG summersale, some okay stuff in there, nothing I'm looking for in particular.

SCG has snapcaster on sale for 16.
shock lands are also a little lower than usual.
Geist is also around 13

both those prices are lower than the lowest store with a playset on TCG.

a great place that ive found to get cards, particularly for standard, at fairly low prices is cardshark.com its just a hub for private sellers and they've almost always tended to be cheaper than scg. only downside is that there is no pre ordering cards from sets.

Posted: Thu Sep 19, 2013 4:05 pm
by Thrillho
This is the same case with TCGPlayer. IIRC cardshark doesn't also have free shipping options.

Maybe it's worth comparison shopping between sites, but pricing is the usual "single copies of a card at a dollar or two between most well-known store's prices, and multiples at the average or higher."

Yea that is true. It's not the end all be all or anything, just another site to keep in mind especially when new cards are realeased. When Chandra was still 15 or so on other sites I was able to pick her up for 10.50. I'll probably still get pre orders from tcg player when i can
