What a sad day. This man was a phenomenal bassist and, from what I've read since his accident in 2008, a wonderful, caring person. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him, both as a person and as a musician.

I met him once. It's actually kind of an embarrassing moment, but I'll share it, anyway.

So, the hubby and I were at a festival, and they were there. Korn went on after them, but the hubby's back was hurting bad, so we left. We're walking through the parking lot trying to find our car, but having no luck, so the tram people picked us up. We were driving through the area with the tour buses, and I see him. But, all I know is he's a member of the Deftones, I don't know
which one he is. The hubby tells me who he is. The tram people see me noticing him and stop, so I jump off, run up to him, tell him that I love his music...

...

...and ask him if Chino is around.

He laughs, says, "Nah, he's on stage getting ready to do 'Wicked'," and my face falls because omg I love that song and now I'm going to miss it! :-( Then I get his autograph and a hug and we leave.

Afterwards I felt like an ass, but I realized he probably had shit like that happen to him all the time.

Anyway, here's to Chi. You will be missed, good sir.

Man...I was pulling for him. I always thought he'd get better.

Sad times.

Thirteen years later and Change in the House of Flies still gives me chills.

omg has it really been 13 years?

It's gotta be all of Adrenaline and Around the Fur for me. Those two albums are in my top 10 favorite albums of all time.

Chyeah. I thought it was ten, then I thought a little harder. Thirteen. And Adrenaline? Fucking nineteen years. That album is almost as old as I am.

7 words, though, never gets old.

7 Words is my all time favorite song. Ever. Of any band. And it was so fucking amazing live.

You didn't see Chi, then, and that's a shame. I did once, and he's just phenomenal. The show I saw without him wasn't the same, though it was still good.

never was a fan but always kept an eye out to see if he was getting better (last I checked, he was able to track movement with his eyes), sad to see this happen.

Yeah, the last I know of, he'd started to regain limited use of his legs, which is a huge breakthrough. Very sad thing. :(

i loved deftones since adrenaline came out. it was featured in this skate shop that was next to my church, i heard it and never looked back. probably played that cd 20 times when i first heard it. engine #9 is the reason why i wanted to play guitar. chi was part of the reason why i loved music and he is definitely missed! the newer deftones music is still amazing. so if you get a chance to see them live, do it! i still havent had a chance to film them yet, but if you like rock music, check out my webpage -- nighttremors.net
