Don't take their wins away from them. States may be one giant FNM, but some of these tournaments do have 7+ Rounds with a Top 8.

Already the majority of the lists look "stock" though.

States results matter, when I'll be playing the list at SCG States this weekend, lol.

Satyr Firedancer, do I maindeck this mean son of a bitch, or not? At the $5k I ran 3 mainboard in the Jeskai deck I was playing, and it did pretty well. Basically, it's just another way to add value to every burn spell.

I'm not very confident in main deck Rabble any more.

How did Lee Morino cast the counterspells from his sideboard is what I want to know.
His actual sideboard was this:

[deck]
2 Erase
4 Hushwing Gryff
3 Searing Blood
4 Firedrinker Satyr
1 Ride Down
1 Arc Lightning
[/deck]
[deck]
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
3 Stormbreath Dragon
Creatures [15]
3 Arc Lightning
4 Chained to the Rocks
3 Deflecting Palm
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
4 Stoke the Flames
Spells [22]
4 Battlefield Forge
12 Mountain
3 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph
Lands [23]
SIDEBOARD
2 Anger of the Gods
1 Deflecting Palm
3 Disdainful Stroke
3 Erase
3 Magma Spray
2 Negate
[/deck]

Actually Blaine's list is my favorite. The full 75. I'd definitely find room for a Chandra in the main though.

His list looks pretty good, but I'd change the sideboard a little.

Mostly just cutting the 2 Ride Down, the 1 Arc Lightning, and perhaps 1 of the Banishing Light to squeeze 3-4 Satyr Firedancer in there.

I have a personal hatred for Ride Down

I don't like Ride Down. The times it was in my hand, more often than not I didn't really want to attack, or the opponent will not bother blocking. The best target it for it is always the one blocking Rabblemaster. The other two are rarely blocked because of Prowess.

Which matchups do you bring Chandra in anyway? She usually only stays for 1-2 turns (though I actually managed to -7 her this one time).

Quite Being nitpicky.
On topic, chain the rocks makes rabblemaster Much better.
You have no idea how right you are. After playing today, I'm considering moving up to the full set
I actually do know from playing both in red devotion
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Anyone still like the burn->control postboard plan? With the walkers and land in the sideboard?

[deck]
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

1 Chandra, Pyromaster

3 Chained to the Rocks
2 Deflecting Palm
4 Searing Blood
3 Arc Lightning
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet

12 Mountain
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Battlefield Forge
2 Plains
1 Temple of Silence

Sideboard
1 Arc Lightning
1 Deflecting Palm
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
4 Hushwing Gryff
1 Erase

Do any Ashcloud Phoenix's or any Stormbreaths/Sarkhans warrant discussion for the main?

Please don't run three in your 60. In fact, don't run any in your 60.
What's your reasoning please Val? I've found the card incredibly useful so far.

Is DP really worth having main-deck if you don't know they're going to be playing some big fatty or some single non-creature source of large? Or do you just go in assuming that?

1) Not very good against aggro, and definitely terrible vs control though there aren't many control decks currently.

2) Reactive spell in an inherently proactive deck. Nonbo with Seeker of the Way and Monastery Swiftspear.

3) Only good in the late game against the decks that it's good against.

4) Very bad to draw multiples.

5) Very bad when behind on board.

I think one is just okay, but any more maindeck isn't optimal in my opinion. Could you imagine drawing two in your opener? Almost a sure mulligan, whereas a card like Chained to the Rocks or burn spells that can target creatures are not only fantastic in multiples but aid your gameplan of sticking an early threat and doing damage with it over multiple turns. Get a hand with multiple Palm instead of removal and you have to completely change your gameplan.

The chance of getting both of the card you run 2 of in your opening hand is pretty slim.. I've gone rounds and rounds without ever seeing 2-of's in my deck once let alone both in the same opening hand.

I would argue its better when you are behind than ahead. If you are ahead your opponent might not be playing aggresive and attacking or you may be controlling the board and killing all their guys. It can pull you right back into games via a 10+ life swing.

Has been ok here and there with your Prowess guys if you are blocking. You can cast before damage and pump.

I don't think you can say it's better behind than ahead.

If you're behind it buys you some time but you aren't actually any closer to winning. If you're ahead it prevents them from gaining any traction against you. It's a win-more card.

So doing damage to your opponent instead of yourself doesnt put you any closer to winning??

You act like its just a fog effect. It can do a lot of damage for 2 mana.

Seems great against Polukranos or the Mardu demon guy. Not so much against Rabblemaster or Elspeth tokens. That pretty much relegates it to SB staus, no?

deflecting palm: bad against small agro good against midrange/ big guys. If you don't likeit, don't run it. Where the deck is already solid against small creatures it dosen't hurt to shore up g1's against midrange/big guys. as a 2 of the chance to get both in your opening hand is so small agruing about mulls is stupid and you can always side it out in favor of something else if it comes to that.

I think I am back to Jeskai...

My meta is just so heavy green and Mantis Rider is 100x better than Swiftspear in that matchup.

There are definitely times where you are behind and it is not just a fog effect. There are also situations where DP isn't much better than fog, and those situations are ones where you are behind.

Maybe the meta is such that there are always really juicy targets for Deflecting Palm and the card is worth maindecking multiples, it just seems very doubtful to me. I could be wrong though.

I am always only playing for my next tournament.

That happens to be the Mass SCG States.

I frequent the location it is at a lot and at the TCG States at the same location last weekend had the following metagame: 7 courser decks and 1 mono red one drop deck.

Going to 23 land

22 was far too few.

Going down to 2 Deflecting Palm from my list to do so

Also, 4 Hushwing Gryf. Very good card against Siege Rhino esque decks and even control decks for more threats as a flash flier.

If we want to get rid of deflecting palm... does an extra land and two Ashcloud Phoenix warrant any consideration? Gives us a big flyer, recursive threat... Definitely more proactive than palm. That said, I've barely played any games with the deck, and it was all against aggro where palm was lackluster and I sided it out.

That said, arc lightning is a house. Except against Mardu Ascendancy.

I took this to a 5-0 finish at FNM:
[deck]
Creature 12
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Goblin Rabblemaster

Spells 26
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Deflecting Palm
3 Arc Lightning
4 Chained to the Rocks
4 Searing Blood
4 Magma Spray
4 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames

Land 22
1 Mana Confluence
2 Plains
4 Temple of Triumph
4 Battlefield Forge
11 Mountain

Sideboard
2 Circle of Flame
3 Magma Spray
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
3 Hushwing Gryff
2 Erase
2 Banishing Light
2 Ashcloud Phoenix
[/deck]

I only dropped one game, which was Game 1 of Round 1, when I failed to draw another land after keeping a 2-Mountain opener.

A few notes:

- I only used DP once, and it was when I played both just to get a +2/+2 on Swiftie to win a game.

- Playing 3-4 Hushwing is probably essential. I played against 3 G/b decks and it really does just shut them down.

- I laughed at Mardu opponent when I played Circle of Flame on turn 2 in Game 2. He didn't laugh with me.

- Ashcloud Phoenix is a house. But you guys knew that already.

Killing a creature with Searing Blood when you have Firedancer on board gives you 3 player damage and then the Dancer trigger hits another of their creatures. Man, that feels great!

Having troubles against Jeskai control. Is it worth loading up any enchantment hate?

Erase was awesome for me last night in my Jeskai burn deck. I suggest running two in the side because there are so many good targets for it. Courser, Banishing Light, Nyx-Fleece Ram, Herald of Torment, etc.
