Why Hello There my Good Chaps!

Postby DjBlackDiamond » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:37 pm

Hi people,

Some of you might remember me from MTGS. Unfortunately, for some strange reason I was recently banned and I wasn't even bitching! So I moved here, hope nobody kicks me out :? .

I'll do my best to bend (full backbends :P) to the interesting discussions you'll have around here.

Namasté

I agree to a point but their is a lot of faith and spirituality involved.

I spend most of my week with 4 Indians, all of them are Hindu except one sheikh. While I'm proudly atheist its one of the religions I prefer stayed on this planet, good morals overall.

Yes, there's a lot of spirituality involved, and to a certain extend, also faith. (But not in the way most people think about when they hear that word. In MPO, it's more about about hope than about trust or belief without proof or evidence. Hope in a highly pratical and actionable sense: do something to get to beyond mind and reason, not because you need proof that *something* is there, and you *believe* it. You just need hope and action to run the path that leads there, wherever 'there' may be. It's about what you do get there, not when or where will you arrive.)

"Character is what you are in the dark," kind of thing?

I cannot believe we've gotten this far into the conversation without someone bringing up the Kama Sutra. Thoughts on that?

Its a book about sex, a form of love. Every religion talks about it.

"Character is what you are in the dark," kind of thing?

I cannot believe we've gotten this far into the conversation without someone bringing up the Kama Sutra. Thoughts on that?

The book of Kama Sutra is not just about sex... 'Kama' in one of the 4 goals or stages in life (from the the realm of matter towards the realisation of supreme spiritual bliss) related to enjoyment of life and pleasure, (which comprends sexual satisfaction but is not limited to it, like aestethics, for instance). So 'Kama' is a mandatory goal of one's existence but it's not the 'one and only' (and has its importance is well defined if conflit with other goals arises). One should strive for balance between duty (dharma), confort of living (
artha - economic needs), pleasure (kama) in the path for liberation (moksha - spiritual freedom from the wheel of life).

Of course, in the West this meaning is not discussed (and mostly unknowned), what matters is that it 'sells', like any other thing labeled 'sex'.

@Shalako: I don't kwnow what is your religion, but in Kama Sutra and Hinduism (or Buddhism and Jainism, for that matter) you will not find the ideia of guilt, or the need to feel 'shame', as a consequence of pleasure (opposite to the Judeo-Christo-Islamic building blocks).

Well, DJ (Can I call you that?), I'm actually a proponent of legalized prostitution so I doubt we'll find much common ground on where sexual pleasure fits on the wheel of life, but I was most curious about the idea of meditation within an act. Like yoga isn't just exercise or meditation, but both concurrent, something that I don't get very well. If you'd talk more on that, I'd hear it.

1. I live in a country where prostitution in not ilegal (even thought it's ilegal for another person, besides de the sex-worker, to profit from it so there are no Bunny Ranches around) and I'm totally for it, so I dont' get why you say there's no common ground on that matter.

2. I'm a yoga instructor... So, I can go on and on about 'yoguic
matters'... That's right, Yoga is not just exercise. In a very classical sense (accordingly to Yoga Sutras of Patanjali) Yoga is the pratice you engage in to prepare your body and mind for meditation. Simply put, that's it. There's a physical component to it, but also an espiritual one. In Yoga we don't dwell in the 'mind (reason) vs. body (feeling)' debate: our body is the 'tool' to transcend our mind. Theres a yoguic saying that goes: “The pose (asana) begins when you want to leave it”, I think that sums it up.

Can you be more specific about your doubts? (And have you ever tried a yoga class?)

1. I obviously read too much into your small comment, I apologize. You seemed to not like the idea of blending sex and money, whereas I think not only should the trade be viable, but lots of crazy stuff too like it shouldn't even be taxed. A miscommunication.
I know England and German have a law similar to what you describe where it's okay as long as it's non-profit, but they've got this law as well forbidding anybody else from being in the same room/s in case a threesome breaks out... I think it's called the anti-fetish law... which means that sex workers can't even have a bodyguard or secretary. Always pissed me off. Does your country have that?

2. I don't really have any specific doubts, no, I just like learning as much as possible about fascinating stuff like the mind/body connection of yoga. I used to date a yoga instructor, and she'd try to get me interested but she was at such a higher level of
understanding it was hard for her to communicate the basics to my n00bish self (she'd been doing it since she was 8 ). I always had trouble moving from the physical to the meditative and usually we'd just end up having crazy monkey sex instead. So any time you want to talk about whatever, for my part I'll listen, since you've got the open forum and all to do so.
Never been part of a yoga class, though; there's a stigma against men doing it in public here and I could never get past the feeling that I'd just be creeping if I signed up for a class full of women in yoga pants.

Meditation is hard enough to do while being still.

I have no idea how people do it while moving.

Unless Yoga Meditation is different then Benedictine Meditation?
