I will stick with my GP ones, I like them. The only upgrade really left for me is to get original printing foil Lavamancers and I don't think I like Lavaman enough to drop the cash on it.

I own a playset of pack foil Guides.

And I will not look down on anyone who chooses to play them over GP ones. It is personal preference. If I wasn't on break during Zendikar, I would probably have acquired them at that time and be using them.

I look down on everyone from my throne made of foiled red cards.

I just hope if they reprint Guide in MM2 that they decide to use new art so I can look down smugly upon my non-Zendikar owning opponents.

And also so my foil Guide retains its exclusivity.

I really need to finish my foil playset.

I will continue to play with non-foil cards, mismatched core set Mountains, and a 15 Island sideboard. Get on my level.

So I played this pile at the shop yesterday to a 3-1 finish in the regular Tusday leauge, we where 27 players but caped at 4 rounds. Winning game 1 against some sort of mono blue combo with Thought Lash, Laboratory Maniac, Skill Borrower and some other stuff was a real slog against Thought Lash, but I managed to win 2-1. Next was against Dredge where he won game 1 fairly easy on turn2-3 with the nut draw, I the proceded to greind him out in games 2 and 3 with Deathrite Shaman and Faerie Macabre controling the his grave and eating up his dredgers and Iona, Shield of Emeria once she turned up. Third game was against Affinity/Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas in game 1 he got and explosive start and I just could not keep up, but in games 2 and 3 I managed to win on the backs of Volcanic Fallout and Eidolon of the Great Revel. Last game was against Miricals where my opponent manage to get the lock at 1 life in tyhe first game. Second game I won pretty quick with 2 Sulfuric Vortex in my starter and a Deathrite Shaman to ramp into them on turn 2. He Forced the first but the second one got him. Third game was a grindfest where he forced my Pyroblast trying to stop his Counterbalance and Deathrite Shaman grinding him down to 1 before he killed the shaman and got the lock, sadly I never managed to find a Krosan Grip and when I finaly died I saw it was the top card of my library. :)

Anyway, I have been super happy with the deck and I feel like the splash gives the deck a lot of flex so I don't just cross my fingers and hope for the best in some MU's like I did when I ran mono red. The deck is just as fast as the normal mono red deck and if you get to play a T1 Deathrite Shaman it's generally faster and more recillient to distruption.

Interesting. Bump in the Night is better than Lava Spike if playing black, no?

They are equivalent. You are never getting to 6 mana to flash it back.

And fuck Tyrant's choice. Too many 2 drops.

Unlike Modern, Legacy Burn has a legit shot at winning on turn 3.

Agreed.

As much as I want to just dismiss the deck and declare it the worst thing I've ever seen, I'd be doing myself a disservice as some of the best ideas have been historically been shunned by many and then later be proven with solid results. I don't want to be dense.

With that said, there are many parts of that deck that I wouldn't touch with Blaklanner's dick and Lord_Mcdonalds pushing.

@BlakLanner: will you be posting more legacy videos in the future? I plan on picking up magic again soon (in a few months) but I kinda forgot how to recognized decks for effective boarding.

I've been busy, though I've been working on non-magic related animations.

Anyhow here is my proposed deck-list:

[deck=MDU's Burn]Lands 20
12 Mountain
4 Arid Mesa
4 Scalding Tarn

Creatures 11
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Goblin Guide
3 Grim Lavamancer

Enchantments 03
3 Sulfuric Vortex

Spells 26
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Price of Progress
3 Searing Blaze

Sideboard 15
3 Ensnaring Bridge
3 Volcanic Fallout
3 Smash to Smithereens
2 Searing Blood
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Pyrostatic Pillar[/deck]

The MD and SB may or may not change as I work through the current meta game (hopefully via watching recent Mr Blak videos).

Interesting. Bump in the Night is better than Lava Spike if playing black, no?
The black mana will normally be a bottle neck for me. With Deathrite activations and Tyrant's Choice, and I also want to fetch a Taiga for the green mana. So I found that I wanted to minimize the number of black spells in the deck so I would not be stranded with cards I could not cast. But yes, Bump is the superior card for the life loss and flashback, but I'm worried about the mana.
And fuck Tyrant's choice. Too many 2 drops.

Unlike Modern, Legacy Burn has a legit shot at winning on turn 3.
Well, Tyrant's Choice is just an upgraded Flame Rift and with Deathrite I have some mana ramp and will normally be able to cast more spells then I use to when I played mono red. I have had a fair deal of T3 kills with the deck, and that is past distruption, due to the 2 extra mana the Deathrites have provided. They have also been really nice in the mirror or race games where they give me life to survive. I had one get me up to 21 life when playing against Lands to allow me to survive a Marit attack and kill my opponent when I untaped.

Overall the deck is working well for me and has been really fun to play with. And while it's not for everyone I like it, I'm not going to claim that it's better then mono red but it fits me and my style of play better. And if your worried about it's speed, I'd recommend goldfishing it for a few games just to get a sense of the deck and it's speed. The biggest advantage of the deck is that it has more game against the tempo decks due to the mana ramp letting you play things like Eidolon on turn 2 without having to worry about daze. And just having more mana in general.

I probably should do a few more sets of both Standard and Legacy. I will see what I can do.

@Jojja: Why arn't you playing 4x Fireblast or 4x Bump in the Night?
It's a mana issue mostly. I do not want to have to many black spells in hand and no way to cast several of them in a turn. The none-red mana is the bottlenack for this deck, when I was looking at burn spells Tyrant's won out over Bump since it deals more damage. And fireblast is a 3of because sacing Badlands and Taiga can be a real problem against Wastelands and Ports if you draw basics instead of fetchlands. Your really only want one Fireblast in hand as the last spell you cast of the game :)

It sounds like your taking on so much extra risk for such minimal gain... don't get me wrong I like 2c or 3c burn in some formats like modern but that is mainly because we're lacking in quality burn spells.

I understand why folks think its a bad idea. If there are a lot of blue decks, specificly tempo decks like delver or stoneblade variants then the inclusion of Deathrite is pretty huge. The same thing is true for reanimator and dredge decks, if there are a lot of them in your meta then the dethrites will be great. Otherwise it's just a glorified lavaman. I have had some sucsess in the mirror by gaining a lot of life with them, but that is ofsett by the PoP my opponents are playing. But I tend to try and play around that as much as I can so I end up gaining more then I lose.

You can look at it like this:
3 Lavamen + 1 Fireblast -> 4 Deathrite
1 Sulfuric Vortex + 3 Searing Blaze -> 4 Tyrant's Choice
1 Sulfuric Vortex -> Sylvan Library
Lands -> Lands

The difference between our decks is that yours is better against creature decks like Elves ect, while mine has a better MU against Tempo and graveyard decks. We are both able to deal damage at the same rate, but I get access to 1 more mana every turn and can cast more spells. Different strengths for different meta's. And mine if filled with GY decks and U/x/x tempo decks so I prefer the 3c setup I'm running right now because of it :)

2 Flame Rift
3 Price of Progress
3 Fireblast

Enchantment 1
