You aren't the first to suggest Simian. They were getting at T1 Eidolons though.

Seems legit. I remember from my experience at the Invitational/Open not liking Sulfuric Vortex much... I feel its only well placed vs Stoneforge Mystic decks and Miracles. And even then, with so many searing effects, not sure how much of a problem stoneforge is (smash is just amazing).

Vortex is definitely a love it or hate it card. I like it for shutting down general lifegain like Swords, Firewalker and Grislebrand as well.

Purp - I would run PSully's list card for card with one exception: +1 Smash, -1 Vortex in the board.

His list is an excellent base and it would be hard to fault anyone who runs it card for card.

I ran basically the same list in the invitational, grim lavamancer was un impressive. (eidolon wasnt out yet, so those were flame rifts at the time)

I feel the same way about Lavaman. That is why I replaced him with Swiftspears for now.

I don't know why you wouldn't run Lavamancer in a field full of Delver and Elves.

I was of the similar mind, but they run bolt and chain lightning..... Lavamancer sticking against Delver will pretty much never happen. Vs elves, it is simply too slow. I firmly believe elves is one of the worst matchups.

If they're bolting your Lavamancer then your Eidolons and Guides are sticking.

Elves is a fantastic matchup if you're playing Lavaman alongside Blaze and Blood. That's why PSully's list is the best one out there right now. You just overload on Lavaman and Searing effects and bring in Flame Rift when you need a faster goldfish.

Simian spirit guide is bad in burn -- we are not trying to cast an extremely powerful spell early that wins the game on its own, we just aim to kill the opponent with 6/7 cards in the most efficient way. Every resource is very important to win in a reasonable time frame and we need our lands to stay on the battlefield. In the end it won't matter much if you cast two spells on turn one with a simian, because you can just cast that spell later and avoid being manascrewed.

The only possible use of mana accelerants would be to cast eidolon or other trump sideboard cards on turn one , but i think we really can't afford the inconsistent mana sources for this very little upside.

As someone who plays elves, I laugh at your feeble attempts to kill me

Elves is an even matchup and a lot is decided by the die roll. Of course to win you have to see a mix of searing effects and lavamancers/eidolon. Just killing their creatures without applying pressure is a losing proposition because they have a lot of card advantage and will eventually recover and kill the burn player.

I have been doing some experimenting since the disaster in NJ and am actually starting to like a list with Treasure Cruise. The purist in me wants to vomit but I have had success in the limited testing I have done.

[deck]Cruise Burn[/deck]

I have been pretty impressed with Swiftspear in this list to the point where I might cut the Guides to put some Lava Spikes back into the deck. Being able to reload with Cruise or pitch bad cards with Brainstorm has proven surprisingly useful as well.

Then again, I may have hit my head too hard and too often recently and have lost what little of a mind I had left.

At that point, why not just play ur delver?

I have been having that debate internally myself. I think it came down to wanting to play Burn with a chance to reload my hand and not caring about counters. Brainstorm just seemed obvious once I started playing blue.

Well, the point is moot now. Banning Treasure Cruise just takes us back to the old meta again. I didn't see it coming honestly. There goes $1000.

Dude, it's not money wasted when you can just trade it or sell it into something you'll need later.

Perhaps. It just disgusts me that I spent all that and never got to use the deck. LM said I should turn the Volcs into Judge Bolts and I am honestly considering it.

Foils don't make your deck any more or less lethal.

Khaos, one day you will understand the allure of pimping your deck, and on that day, you will become a true neckbeard

I already pimp my decks but, aside from my pack foil Guides, I don't fully seek it out. If foils come my way or I find a great deal by happenstance, I'm on it, but I don't think about things like,"Well, I need to pick up some Leylines for this deck" and then jump on to SCG and buy a foil set.

I only pimp out my Legacy deck. I feel safer doing that one because, theoretically, I shouldn't need to change cards all that often. I don't buy foils of cards that I am testing, only ones that I am sure I want to use. The foil Cruises will probably go into my Standard deck since I have them.

One Burn deck in the Top8 this Open:

[deck]
Creatures (11)
4 Goblin Guide
3 Grim Lavamancer
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel

Spells (29)
2 Sulfuric Vortex
4 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Price of Progress
3 Searing Blaze
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt

Lands (20)
11 Mountain
1 Arid Mesa
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Wooded Foothills

Sideboard
3 Ensnaring Bridge
3 Tormod's Crypt
1 Sulfuric Vortex
2 Pyroblast
3 Searing Blood
3 Smash to Smithereens [/deck]

3 Lavamancers main feels like a lot but there was a lot of Elves there. Maybe it was the right call. The lack of Swiftspears is also notable but something had to go to make room for Lavaman.
