I hate to shamelessly promote my deck but I really feel like its still the best version of Red Deck there is at the moment. Its the culmination of months of theory and testing into something tried and true.

Ok, I lied. I love to shamelessly promote my deck.

It's huge against aggro decks since it acts as a stonewall, and in some cases, will actually shut some down, like zombies. He's hard to kill and is a late game mana sink, a la Stonewright. He's also one of the best looking foils in the game.

I doubted him until a few weeks ago when I tried him out at FNM. The guy did some work for me.

Kaze: I suppose because it is a speed bump against opposing aggro deck, that can become a mana sink late-game.

Also, inspired by the aristocrats thread, I decided to take it out for a spin, faced 2 straight Peddle-Caster decks.. Apparently that can wreck that deck...

EDIT: Well, Khaos just described that better than I did, and sooner too! :D

Ouch, Tubehunter. That fucking blows.
Yeah, I was going hard, and then they lay down a peddler. I was like: :/. Then the staticaster came down and wrecked my day. Held me off until they mopped up with the usual suspects. (thrag and Huntsmaster). When it came to the second game, they layed down a turn two peddler( "are you fucking kidding me"). Managed to take that game due to a timely tragic slip. Third game, they just wreck me as I flooded hard.

Second match was about the same as the first. :( Staticaster alone is good against the Aristocrats, but peddler too? Man,
i thought that that the cute combo was dismissed already. Guess it was just my unlucky day :D

I plan to ask you guys about my sideboarding plans with RDW soon. Question is: should that discussion go into the Primer thread or is that the perfect cue to finally create a [Variant] RDW thread?

Does anyone in the clan own the Duels of the Planeswalkers game on Steam? If you do, maybe we could get a little group together. My username's the same. If not, I highly recommend getting it. It's very cheap ($10 for 10 decks, and it goes on sale all time). The decks aren't the most powerful, and you only get a 60 card deck with 40 more unlockable cards to edit it with, but with all the nuckleheads on Steam, there's a lot of shenanigans you can get away with and epic plays to make based on the nature of the decks. I play 2 headed giant solely because you'll always be able to find a game, and I'll just go on Cockatrice if I want to play real, 1v1 Magic.
Also, I feel great right now, because my lacrosse team just won our first home game. We got beat by one of the best teams in the state, top 20 in the country, last week so the win feels good.
@Fax: I think it belongs in the primer thread. That's where most
discussion happens on MTGS, mono red Sligh being the exception.

I have DotP for iOS...but the interesting thing is, despite all the restrictions on deckbuilding, there are communities out there that have managed to make some great custom decks for it, including huge amounts of cards that aren't officially packaged with DotP itself, correct art and all.

What's a WMCQ?

I took Jund aggro to FNM and went 3-2 overall, making top 8 but losing. It was my first time playing the deck. Had some early issues with getting land screwed. Most games I side boarded into more of a mid range deck which I enjoyed playing more actually.

I think Sasky would be very interested in seeing what your midrangey Jund aggro deck looked like.

Also got my GF to join the site, we really need help tweaking her Grixis to beat the meta of midrange/control/rites at our store, and Zeman just happens to be brewing that deck at the moment.

Must be fate

Grixis is the deck I played pre-Gatecrash, the deck is mediocre at best, although it does play some cards that I really think are underrated. (Desolate Lighthouse, mainboard Slaughter Games, etc.)

Great posts, Fax! Glad to see another epic beard among us, and thanks so much for sharing the pics and caricature. Love the B&W...color so often takes the eye away from structure and composition. Love the racquet-ar pics as well...too cool! I envy you such a remarkable trip...I hope to get to travel in Europe some time in this life.
Thank you photodyer! I'll blame it on the speed of this thread but only now did I put all the little pieces together - clue was in your nickname really :embarrass: We should talk photography more often!

I fully agree re: B&W as a compositional tool; in that port, for example, there was so
much random color information that was completely irrelevant to the images... add a cloudy sky and it really was a no-brainer to go B&W. I do find myself using it as a crutch many other times though... my editing skills are still very basic and most things look better in B&W to my eye!

Still sick, eating cough drops like candy. In other news, All in Red seems like a legit deck, though it folds to turn 3 thragtusk.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Man, if you don't get better soon I'm going to start a "Save LP, of the Fires Fund."

I agree with the T3 Thrag. Maybe Boros Reckoner should be in the deck.

In other news, I've started writing a Primer on my Nin, the Pain Artist EDH deck. Fucking Christ, this thing is going to take me forever. :ugh:

Top 8 of our WMCQ were RG Aggro, RWU Flash, 2x Naya Midrange, Jund Midrange, Junk Frites, Jund Aggro, and Aristocrats.

That's a very diverse top 8 there.

Hey guys! Just finished my report from today's standard event, went 3-2, tie-break into top 8, and then sweep into the finals to split (lucky for him) with a red player that had VD. Due to his tons of MD removal, it was actually a good matchup for him game one, but I wrecked him the post side game we played. Didn't finish the third.

My report is here.

@Z:  And go check out the AIR thread.

Also, what is it with red mages and redheads? I'm squarely in the redheads > other women camp.

I guess I should rephrase...red hair > other hair colors (in most cases).

Apparently Black won the YMTC color contest. So now we have a black enchantment...yaaayyyy.....at least maybe we can make 7BBB Omnipotence. /wantedaredcard.

Let me give you a little comical self-depricating perspective, my friend, to ease your mind...the anxiety of "meeting the parents" will never, ever in your life be even a shadow of the trepidation of a parent meeting their "child's" partenaire de l'amour. Especially that of a father who is one hell of a lot closer to that reality than the other! ;-)

Good-natured ribbing aside, I'm happy to hear it went well, though I would never have expected any different from so considerate a person as you!

Dane already posted and started discussion of this spoiler over in The Rumor Mill, but I thought it should come straight into clan discussion as it has bearing on red aggro...

It doesn't really have any bearing on red aggro, the card is unplayable in this format. It will replace Syncopate in the lists that play Syncopate, but that's about it.

Oh it actually went fine, so no problems there.

It does make me always think of the story that Shogun Rua told before one of his PRIDE fights. Shogun has two young daughters and when asked about them in an interview, he said that he was excited to have daughters so that when they bring boys home to meet them, he can show the would be suitor his highlight reel...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQINm15bc0k

That would be much more awkward.
