I'm ok with the new Sliver art though it the old one is still better. There are other ways to handle "evolution".

Not a fan of predator slivers compared to old art, but I don't think new art is necessarily bad. I just fear change.

Also looks like I'm stuck piloting esper control this week as my friends junk rites deck was stolen. This will be...a thing. I don't even know how I want to play esper now as superfriends as Alex would put it seems "Incredibly mediocre" and that's the only form of esper I enjoy. Looks like I'm going to be putting Aetherling through it's paces and I may play renounce the guilds as well. Rough list:

[deck]

4 Sphinx's Revelation
4 Supreme Verdict
4 Azorius Charm
4 Lingering Souls
1 Dissipate
1 Render Silent(cause might as well do the testing at TNM)
2 Far//Away
1 Ultimate Price
1 Renounce the Guilds
2 Warped Physique
1 Tragic Slip
3 Think Twice

2 Snapcaster Mage
3 Augur of Bolas
1 Aetherling[/deck]

VERY rough. Needs some walkers in there and probably another draw spell.
No D-sphere or Sorin to make renounce the guilds better. Too deep? And If I'm Aetherling'ing, shouldn't I also be obzedat and restoing. Maybe, maybe not. I do like the idea of actually being able to kill people though with damage. -1 Ultimate price, -1 Snapcaster, +2 Resto angel. Cut...something for Obzedat. I guess an Augur. Maybe a land since this deck looks functional on 25.

Well, now that I've bored you all to death, I think I've got some idea of what I want to be doing now and I may be able to enjoy playing this beast. Either that, or I'm just gonna get crushed by flinthoof boars.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

You don't need a perfect list for Esper control. A mix of cheap removal, card draw, sweepers, and silver bullets are all you need. Esper control is almost entirely pilot-dependent - the build matters far less than using the right cards at the right time.

Don't bother playing any creature but aetherling, unless you're using them as a brick wall. It's either that or milling people to death.

Possible. First Strike, Haste, and Vigilance seem to be the only ones that are fairly costed for now (with Striking Sliver looking to be undercosted IMO).

On other news, I finally found someone willing to trade his Liliana of the Veil (plus cash) to my set of Huntmasters. Good deal for me since Liliana is only going to go up in a few years.

So I know I'm late to the party over here so excuuuuuse me if this has been beaten to death.

What do you guys think the meta will do now that DGM is legal?

I am thinking it will be almost all Aggro/Midrange for a bit since a lot of new cards are great against control and they didn't get too many pieces. Sire of Insanity and Sin Collector to name a few.

Hence why I running Act 2 :)

Sire Jund took the top slots from the last SCG. Junk Rites is still a thing. Expect a lot of Bant Auras because of Unflinching Courage. Not much will change regarding the top decks IMO.

Yea Bant Auras got an awesome card and without control in the heavy mix with sweepers, not really sure what beats it ? If they get a Hexproof guy with an Aura, very tough to beat esp with lifelink so you can barely race. Is it worth it to keep sac spells in the SB?

I'm hoping American goes down in popularity...friggen hate playing against that deck.

As LK hinted at earlier, expect to see Acidic Slime in any deck that's green and midrange. Actually some sort of flicker slime sounds fun right now while things are in flux, especially with auras coming back to the table. I know in Junk colors one might as well play Reanimator, but Bant offers clone effects. Hmmm. Sire Jund also looks fun, though I'm in the mood to get some use out of Resto. Thoughts?

Any opinions on these three Modern decks? My FNM is Modern next week and I hope to participate, but I can't decide what to run. I'm leaning towards the Gruul Zoo deck. I don't know the current local metagame, but I expect tier 1 decks at the top.
Modern Burn
[deck]Land (20)
2 Stomping Ground
4 Blood Crypt
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Verdant Catacombs
1 Arid Mesa
2 Blackcleave Cliffs
6 Mountain

Creatures (14)
4 Goblin Guide
4 Keldon Marauders
2 Grim Lavamancer
4 Hellspark Elemental

Spells (26)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lava Spike
4 Shard Volley
4 Rift Bolt
4 Bump in the Night
3 Volcanic Fallout
3 Searing Blaze

Sideboard
3 Torpor Orb
4 Smash to Smitereens
4 Rakdos Charm
1 Volcanic Fallout
3 Back to Nature
[/deck]
Modern Gruul Zoo
[deck]Lands (19)
4 Copperline Gorge
4 Stomping Ground
3 Scalding Tarn
2 Verdant
Catacombs
1 Arid Mesa
2 Forest
3 Mountain

Creatures (28)
4 Kird Ape
4 Experiment One
4 Goblin Guide
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Stormblood Berserker
4 Flinthoof Boar
4 Ghor-Clan Rampager

Spells (13)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Rancor
2 Dismember
3 Searing Blaze

Sideboard
4 Volcanic Fallout
1 Dismember
3 Ancient Grudge
3 Back to Nature
4 Vines of Vastwood
[/deck]
Modern Goblin
[deck]Lands (20)
4 Copperline Gorge
4 Stomping Ground
12 Mountain

Creatures (28)
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Goblin Guide
4 Mogg War Marshal
4 Legion Loyalist
4 Goblin Chieftain
4 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Wardriver

Spells (12)
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Shared Animosity
2 Dismember
4 Lead the Stampede

Sideboard
4 Volcanic Fallout
1 Dismember
3 Ancient Grudge
3 Back to Nature
4 Vines of Vastwood
[/deck]
I'm limited to these colors due to available shocks/fetches. Would love to include white in
the Burn and the Zoo decks, but it isn't possible atm. The Goblin deck is very much an untested homebrew so I don't know what that's capable of. But it probably isn't expected, so it has a surprise bonus.

Go with Gruul Zoo. It is an established deck and races even eggs when it was legal. I would strongly recommend some Deglamer in the sb instead of back to nature in order to deal with wurmcoil engines.

Burn is pretty suck in modern now. Goblins are kinda unstable and nothing near the power-level of its legacy-counterpart without lackey.

This is pretty much my thoughts on them as well. The burn list above is better than the one I did 2-2 with earlier this year, but it still doesn't feel quite tier 1. Goblins have potential, I think, but I'd like to try a list with Spike Jesters and 4 Shared Animosities and I can't do that atm. Gruul zoo is indeed quite established. I'd like to have Tarmogoyfs in it, but that's
impossible at their price. Maybe someone can lend my some at the shop, but I doubt it. But Stormblood Berserker is a decent replacement, so I can live with that. Thanks for the comment on Deglamer! I've seen it in pretty much all Zoo lists, but I've never understood why. Wurmcoil Engine is of course the reason.

Kill. Maim. Destroy.

It's a more creature-heavy build with 28 creatures. Knight of Infamy is currently out. Spike Jester is in. The little goblin that could provides for some impressive early damage and is not a bad top deck later. The Core is mostly the same while the top end boasts 4 Aristocrats, and 3 Hellkites for a sledgehammer-style finish.

nEight removal spells back up the creatures to remove early blockers or go to the dome as needed.

Godless Shrines are in, so the deck has 20 [mana]r[/mana], 12 [mana]b[/mana], and 4 [mana]w[/mana] sources. Everything can cast Reckoner, and it's stable enough to get the Jester online early.

The Sideboard is where it gets interesting. Seven more removal spells (Dreadbore and Mortars), five more creatures (Reckoner, Olivia, Weirds), and three [card]Rakdos's Return[/card] ensure that you've got plenty of options.

You can race, go more midrange, or just out-attrition the other guy for the long haul.

Urgh. I have to be in court again on Friday, hopefully to settle the custody issue once and for all. They want my daughter available in case she needs to take the stand. She initially won't be in the courthouse, but at the GAL's office across the street. She's very nervous about possibly seeing her mother again.

This needs to be the last court appearance. We can't afford any more lawyers' fees. The latest fiasco has cost us upwards of around $4,000 as it stands. I absolutely hate how much money I've spent fighting my ex-wife, especially when I think about what else I could have done with all that money. It feels like I'm sacrificing my future to my past.

Man...you certainly pegged it there. We do continue to pay for getting mixed up with
crazy, my friend. In my case, I'm getting ready to take a loan against my retirement fund in order to clear all the remaining bills now that it's clear that Karen is not going to make child support...literally giving up my peace over my future in order to cover the shit that's already been.

I do hope for your and Beth's sake that this proceeding is the end of it...you guys deserve some peace.

Good to see you guys and Dos Rakis are doing well and that Spike
Jester found a home! I too was running the big bad flyers in Sage Jund with 4x Thundermaw and Aristocrat, pretty fun.

I personally found the Dos Rakis get to get even stronger when adding green(jund aggro) or white (aristocrats). Glad to see you guys reppin the original.

Speaking of Aristocrats Primer, thats where LP found me and sent me over here!

Jund Midrange looks to be an awesome deck with some new goodies in Putrefy and Sire of Insanity.
Burn baby burn!

Sire of Insanity is - appropriately - insane.

It's just as good of a target to ramp into as the Titans were.

Coming in late to a few things.

Z, I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. It's never easy, but it sounds like you have some fabulous memories to hang on to.

Windstrider. Good luck man. We're all behind you, hoping this is the last of it.

Thanks to NerdBoyWonder for the amazing sig!
Son, I want you to know that no matter what happens between your mother and me, it's all your fault.

@Dpaine: Are you a Bostonian? Or just a B's fan? If you're local, what shops do you play at?

I saw a Sire Jund playing against a UWr list earlier.

UWr: Put Hallowed Fountain untapped, have 8 lands on play with only 1 card.
Jund: Put land, play Sire of Insanity

We do continue to pay for getting mixed up with crazy, my friend.

Thank you, my friend. I hope that you can also find some relief. We both deserve a break from the past. I'm reminded of Don Corleone in The Godfather, Part III where Michael says, "Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in" or something to that effect. I feel like I'm running in quicksand whenever my ex shows up.

Windstrider. Good luck man. We're all behind you, hoping this is the last of it.
Thanks, raspy. Me too. I'm supremely tired of this nonsense.

Hope everything goes well for you today, windstrider.

I keep finding this urge to brew with the new set officially out. How 'bout some Dos Rakis 20/20/20 style?

[deck]Creatures (20)
2 Deathrite Shaman
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Spike Jester
4 Ash Zealot
3 Rakdos Shred-Freak
3 Fervent Cathar

Spells (20)
4 Bump in the Night
4 Pillar of Flame
1 Dynacharge
4 Searing Spear
4 Skullcrack
3 Brimstone Volley

Lands (20)
4 Blood Crypt
4 Dragonskull Summit
6 Swamp
6 Mountain

Sideboard (15)
4 Traitorous Blood
3 Frostburn Weird
4 Mizzium Mortars
1 Dynacharge
3 Flames of the Firebrand
[/deck]

Sideboard needs a ton of work, and 20 land might be too many since I top out with six 3cmc spells. Also, 14 red sources might be trouble with Ash Zealot.

Starting the 4th episode of GoT. I finally get the Hodor jokes.

In a pinch, Khaos' beard can help turn this around.
I rarely skip a Khaospawn wall of text because I know there is always piss at the end of the rainbow.
