been playing this a few days on cockatrice, I actually rather like it. Feels more traditional sligh.

I then watched this on SCG, and was like... why are they playing that horrible red deck?

CVMs deck for that video was terrible and isn't anything close to this.

I've always enjoyed modern as a format despite considering it the worst overall of the big three…
Limited says what's up, and wants you to know that booster draft alone is bigger than legacy and modern combined.

Honestly the only formats I care about anymore are (in order of shits given): draft, commander, pauper, sealed, standard. And my interest in standard only exists because almost everyone has a standard deck ready to go (and part of the reason I always play RDW is because the basics are stable and the deck is never completely dead, so I can optimize my standard practice/thought/research time on juse understanding the intricacies of the current iteration and how it interacts with the rest of the format). If get dragged into modern
or legacy I'll just put together some variation on rdw or burn with a fairly generic sideboard and hope for the best. almost any tourney I would rather be crackin' packs and makin' picks, which also let's me avoid having to deal with secondary market prices.

Well, I now officially have a reason to get my ass in gear and up my game...my lady and I are locked in for the Magic Cruise next March. We backed the kickstarter for Foretold: Rise of a God at the Divinity level to score a room on the cruise while helping out the game designers, so time to get my head firmly back in some Magic. The format since rotation has been rather "blah" to me...which is really strange because I generally love playing black-based control. But Journey looks to be shaking things up a bit, so it be time to get back in the groove.
I thought you were more of a
black-based aggro kind of guy.

Regardless, I have brews on both ends of the spectrum you may be interested in. :)
Ah...variety is the spice of life, Val. I do indeed like Bx aggro, but I like Bx mid and control as well as I don't favor playing blue permission. I was playing BW through most of the latter part of pre-Theros Standard once BR Aggro got locked out, and I flat-out loved it.

Black is looking really appealing right now from the perspective of hand-disruption...having Thoughtseize, Duress and Brain Maggot in the same Standard with undercosted flyers (DD, Master of the Feast), walls and lifegain in BW bears investigation. Given the spell-plucking creatures available as well, it seems like we should be able to construct a seriously rage-inducing deck.

@NerdBoyWonder: Is this real? If it is, I think some silly red demon of a planeswalker is slitting his wrist, since this one is way playable than him.

Yup it is legit. It is identical in abilities to the mock ups that popped up last week.

Wait, Master of the Feast is supposed to be good? I understand Bloodgift Demon, but what good is a fast clock when it gives your opponent more options?

Trying to label cards "good" or "bad" in a vacuum is on the whole pretty meaningless with the exception of extremes of such. Yes, the card gives your opponents an extra card on your turn which is a nasty drawback, but do you care if you have been stripping their hand and are getting a 5-power flyer out on T3 that they cannot deal with? Cards must be taken in context...if the right deck is playable, the card can be a house as their extra draws mean dick if they can't save them from getting their head kicked in. The meta--as always--is the deciding factor
on whether a card is playable.

On the other side, what's the point of T1 scryland, T2 thoughtseize (I pay 2 and you discard 1) into T3 Master of the Feast aka "get your card back before I can even attack"?
It's not like the current standard is short on removal...

So, I'm in this meeting yesterday. There's a few guys in the conference room with me and there were a few guys from our other location on the phone. The meeting is all about torque values. Basically, some of our drawings called out two different torque values. One was correct, the other... not so much. But that was only half the problem, because it seems like our vendor was only randomly torquing things down properly, regardless of whether we had one good value or two values for them to use.

What that means is we have to check a few hundred screws across thirty seven cabinets to see if they're torqued properly. When my tech lead realizes how much work this will be and how much it could delay the schedule, he exclaims "Jesus Christ" over the phone.

"No, I'm pretty sure they used nails on him." I replied without thinking. "There were no torque values on the cross."

Our conference room
phone was put on mute because two of the guys couldn't stop laughing.

Very true--MotF may not be viable in this Standard, but then, neither was DD in the Standard into which it was released. The card is not, however, inherently unplayable...the question will be whether there is a deck for it that mitigates the drawback. I'm actually more concerned with the fact that Master is an Enchantment Creature than with the drawback as Wx/Xw decks will be as likely to be equipped to deal with him as Bx/Xb decks. It will, again, depend on the meta.

After giving it further reevaluation, I suppose it does have its use against particular decks like red since they don't have a way to deal with it profitably. Perhaps more as a sideboard card.

No. No it isn't I failed to post a link to the vs video in my post. . .
It would have made more sense what I was saying. What I was illustrating actually was how different the
technology is from "GOOD" R/x Aggro and bad. I read the comments and CVM chose to play that Patrick Chapin red. Where as if he'd tried a serious aggro list the results might have been way way different. I'm loving this deck I'm wanting to run Destructive revelry in that 75 still wondering how many I might fit. Could be the wrong direction in some ways but enchantments are just everywhere.

ALSO!

RED THIRST!!!

So you cheated death another year you onery old cuss. I applaud your tenacity. Happy Birthday.

CVM always plays completely horrible red decks while making fun of how easy they are to play, then loses with them. He's the worst.
