How are you guys beating megamorph decks??
So far I use luck  (I hope for an early enough aggressive start followed by burn over top)

- - - - - -

Well I 3-1 my DE with the same list as above and I'm starting to believe the 1x Vaultbreaker (I'm usually in Top-Deck Mode) in my SB might not be the best choice nor do I really like the 4x Roast (it doesn't deal damage) - I'll need to play more and try and work things out.

- - - - - -

Thoughts on 4x Thunderbreak Regent in the SB (the grinders like babones seem to like it).

@ MDU

I do think you maybe a Temple off with 7 green cards in your deck

Regarding Vaultbreaker, I was also excited in the beginning but found it lackluster rather soon

I've tried the Dragon as well but came to the conclusion that he's not worth it. At worst, he was either roasting in my hand or a very clunky 4/4 that the opponent could easily remove - at best he was a bit of a win more card. I think he practically forces you to play a few extra lands in the board, which makes the deck rather loose and inconsistent after SB. I might have evaluated him wrong of course.

I think Roast is a 4-of in the SB. Against decks like Abzan Aggro, you will clearly not be able to use all your burn to the face anyways, so it's logical to side out your low impact burn (Wild Slash) for a high impact kill spell (Roast)

4 Thunderbreaks in SB just sounds greedy. I can't help but remember the Burning Tree deck with Hellriders... and you REALLY wanted to cast that, yet you always got stuck on 3 mana...

@Thunderbreaks: That sounds fair - extra lands = bad and the decks which I want Thunderbreaks for tend to have lots of sac effects making him moot.

@Temple: It citpt, it citpt, IT CITPT!!!!!

@Roast: You really don't think 4 is abit much? From my understanding we shouldn't be trying to control the Midrange deck since they can do that job much better then us. I don't know I'll be sticking with it for now but when I get some more time I'll need too look for more options,

- - - - - - -

well I 3-0'ed another event, Junk is really common online :/

I don't think you're controlling them. In eg Abzan midrange MU Roast is more tempo than control. Don't forgot we have a lot of haste creatures on our deck.

Courser is a hell of a Card against us and Roast is a good answer to that one as well.

EDIT: it's called Abzan, these days... ;-)

Check out the deck that top 4'd I believe GP Paris.

I'm not risk averse, so I can get behind a deck with 4 thunderbreak regents main on 21 lands.

It's super greedy, but I was the BTE, hellrider player so :p
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

Interesting. I guess in such a case I would automatically gravitate towards a 23 land deck with 2 SBD which somehow runs Draconic Roar in the side. But I admit this would be a different deck.....

@LP: At the risk of being called lazy :p - I'll like to request a link to the GP list

@dauntless: Abzan is such a horrible name, I much prefer Junk

Current version (3-0 in SE today)

[deck]Creatures:
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Monastery Swiftspear
3 Zurgo Bellstriker
3 Lightning Berserker
2 Goblin Rabblemaster

Spells:
1 Become Immense
4 Atarka's Command
4 Lightning Strike
3 Wild Slash
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Hordeling Outburst
4 Dragon Fodder

Lands:
1 Forest
1 Temple of Abandon
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Mana Confluence
10 Mountain

SB:
4 Roast
1 Hall of Triumph
1 Destructive Revelry
2 Searing Blood
2 Scouring Sands
2 Eidolon of the Great Revel
2 Goblin Rabblemaster
1 Goblin Heelcutter
[/deck]

3rd Lightning Berserker: Wanted some flood protection + 14 1-drops + more dash Creatures after Board
2 Searing Blood: Searing Blood is very good, but you don't necessarily want to flood the deck with Burn postboard
2 Eidolon: With the 2 Extra Rabble in the Board, I don't think 4 is really needed against control

I'm still pondering the 2nd Temple of Abandon over a Mountain, and following MDU's thinking a Roast could be the second Become Immense, otherwise the deck feels pretty solid

I did meet the guy playing with Thunderbreak Regent. He was destroying everyone during the trials on Friday and earn his bye by going 5-0 during one trial.
He was also at 8-1 by the end of Day 1, this plus the trials gives him 13-1. I think this is a good choice for deck.

We traded French cards against Korean, one hell of a deal.

Where's the videos of your DE and SE's? I miss 'em, man! I'd love to watch how you pilot the deck.

They'll be up next week (standard vids is on Wednesday), but my piloting and SB'ing will be HORRIBLE (I'm getting better again slowly).

I just think Atarka Sligh has some rather degenerate hands sometime which lets me pull wins (but a win is a win) - at least it show you can still go inf. while being avg.

@Pedrobear: Those are some insane stats - I think the deck seems quite strong, not really sure I want to test it myself though since it seems soft to R based aggro.

Here's a link to a podcast & typed up SB plan for the Pro Tour winning decklist.

http://mtgcast.com/mtgcast-podcast-show ... e-underdog

LaZer is piloting the deck very well (as I had to experience myself in a couple of test matches recently) would be great if he could share some of his thoughts here...

We built a Mono Red for a friend who got back into MTG mainly because it's helluva cheaper and albeit we haven't yet made proxy deck for Atarka Red for testing, from the matches I played with it and against it the monored version both seems to be much mroe consistent and have an edge in the mirror. Trading that for explosivness.

Either way the deck is pretty decision intensive because every goddamn point of damage matters. Lovin' playin it. Gonna buy into RG fetches soon and seeing as we already have 4 Commands we may as well built that. The Confluences... well, that is another thing. :D

Spells 26
4 Atarka's Command
4 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Hordeling Outburst
3 Wild Slash
3 Become Immense

Sideboard 15
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Searing Blood
4 Roast
2 Goblin Heelcutter
1 Vaultbreaker[/deck]

Standard Single Elimination (8-Man) Video Report:

G1 (RG)Atarka Sligh vs Red Devo Standard SE 8283174
G2 (RG)Atarka Sligh vs (WBG)Abzan Midrange Standard SE 8283174
G3 (RG)Atarka Sligh vs (WBR)Mardu Standard SE 8283174

^Click to watch

Why bother watching these video?

For fun, SB'ing examples (though haphazard) and maybe inspiration to try out MODO because if I can go inf. (heck even make money) even with all my mistakes - you can as well!.
Current list and information
I went 2-1 during the SE today and finally decided that 3 Become Immense is a bit much, I've also have been having issue with drawing G.

So here is my revised list (its still as greedy as **** which is just the way I like my R based list :p):

[deck=MDU's Atarka Sligh]Lands 20
6 Mountain
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Mana Confluence
4 Wooded Foothills
1 Temple of Abandon
1 Forest

Creatures 15
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
3 Lightning Berserker

Spells 25
4 Atarka's Command
4 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Hordeling Outburst
3 Wild Slash
2 Become Immense

Sideboard 15
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Searing Blood
4 Roast
2 Goblin Heelcutter
1 Wild Slash[/deck]

I've accepted the horrible Temple of Abandon so that half my lands can help me get that G and I upped my curved a little with the 4 Goblin Rabblemaster and 4 Hordeling Outburst which will increase the odds of producing degenerate hands which I enjoy.

- - - - -

EDIT: Ahhh misery - I went 2-1 again.

Mostly redundant effects or have a similar effect on the board.ie roast and injury, both are for the same match up, roast is just a redundant effect. Or like arc lightning its a effect i dont really want a bunch of the match ups its good in its just good in not completely backbreaking.

Anyone tried the Impact Tremors version of the deck? I haven't played standard in weeks, but I've been hearing good things about it.

I havn't posted here in awhile since the thread is pretty much dead but here is my current list:

[deck=MDU's Atarka Sligh]Lands 20
6 Mountain
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Mana Confluence
4 Wooded Foothills
1 Temple of Abandon
1 Forest

Creatures 14
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
2 Lightning Berserker

Spells 26
4 Atarka's Command
4 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Dragon Fodder
4 Hordeling Outburst
4 Wild Slash
2 Become Immense

Sideboard 15
4 Searing Blood
4 Roast
3 Thunderbreak Regent
2 Arc Lightning
2 Magmatic Chasm[/deck]

So far I got 2x 3-0 and 1x 2-1 so its doing rather well, I'm not so sure about Magmatic Chasm since I only really use it for 1 MU which is Devotion but I can't thing of anything else I really want in that slot beside maybe 1x Goblin Heelcutter...

I do have videos of the list in action so if you head over to my youtube channel and sub, like and/or comment I'll be thankful and motivated ;-)

I started playing with MonoRed Tremor recently, I like it more then I thought it would.

I won't lie its a HORRIBLE topdeck but at least it turns out other horrible topdeck at that point into chip-away-dinosaurs. I'm really looking forward to Origins so far mainly for Pile Driver and Firecraft.

I agree. I don't love the card but it has won me quite a few games against horrid durdly decks with G cards in them which is always nice :)
