Which card should be included in the PyroRed Lists?
There are only 2 acceptable answers. The first is the obvious dr. Teeth shock (clearly the best shock), and the second, slightly better, option is one of each. Any time you can run 4 different arts for the same card you should. It's just the same with any cards that have been printed in 4 or more sets, you should run 4 different printings, and at least one of each art. Like my psionic blasts in my Ug counter control deck, I have a beta, an unlimited, a timeshifted, and a player rewards version, and the counterspells are unlimited, ice age, tempest, and 7th. The idea is to get a good mix of editions in your deck, it shows you've playing for a while (or you spent an extra dollarish when
ordering singles).

So I was supposed to play a GPT earlier and it was sealed deck. Decided to drop and take home the packs when it had Elspeth and Thoughtseize in my pool.
And I thought I was in luck getting both Jace and Mutavault in previous M14 sealed. Nice grab, I'd say.

Also, happy birthday, LP.

However, I AM going to the PTQ being held 30 mins from my backyard. But OMG sealed. :(

Yes, please stop.

I took Z's PyroRed list to a first place finish at FNM tonight. So much win in that deck. Got stomped by a Devotion Red deck. It's no fair using Reckoners against us. :D Ouch.

The deck was a blast to play.
What was your plan against Reck? Swing in the barrage to prevent 2-1? Falter effects?
The plan was to just kill them as they came down and stabilize with Hammer and Chandra for the first game and then use Act of Treason on it in the second and third games.
Unfortunately, that plan fell apart when I could only find Shock or Magma Jet for burn, and I never saw Act at all. Creature combat vs. Reckoner is just awful with a field of 2-power dudes.

I don't expect Devotion Red to be big around here since most players use it a support color, if at all. I have, however, seen that guy at that store quite often, so I'm looking at 2 Goblin Shortcutter in the side to shore up that matchup.

Actualy I disagree with this for strategic reasons. If you run multiple arts of the same card you're giving away free information. You give away the number of a card you're playing (I saw him play shock twice game 1, and game 2, but saw 4 different art so therefore I know he plays 4 and likely didn't remove any while sideboarding) as well as the possible duress-oops effect (Duress, see shock and others take something else, then you play shock later but with a different art forgetting which he saw, so he now knows what card you drew). I go out of my way to make sure my art matches. Even Basic lands.

Used Pyrored to go 4-0 at FNM for the first time (in constructed). Feels good, since I've been doing pretty shitty in constructed ever since GTC came out last season.

Goes to show it's better to play archetypes you know and are comfortable with rather than try to force things. I tried playing Rg aggro last season for awhile and while the deck was undeniably successful (especially online) BTE chains just weren't my thing.

I need red decks with that can grind out longer games while still putting on pressure, none of this all in crap

Truth. I just can't play decks that just masterbate onto the board and sees what happens. Mad props to Z for making a deck with really interesting play decisions form turn 1. It almost feels like old school delver.

That's a valid point I had not considered. I need to go through and rethink my a number of my personal policies (including the fact that all
the cards I playsets of, then give the excess to my friends who don't play that oftem, I have been keeping different arts). Now I am going to have rearrange that and only keep matching sets. At least I still have like 8 tog shocks.

Regardless, the answer to the question now defaults to the other option: psychotog shock. Search your feeling, you know it to be true.

Tested PyroRed vs Tietze's UW list today, the matchup felt 50-50 to me. They do stabilise very well, and in most games they're aren't dead by turn 5 or 6 and you have to grind through a revelation or Jace many games which is kind of scary. I'm not sure how to assess PyroRed's ability to grind through that, but I will say that even when they have "stabilised" you can keep grinding, and if they just don't draw revelation for a bit then their life total just keeps ticking down toward 0.

It's a great feeling when they tap out to divination on turn 3, you just know that you can do whatever without being blown out that turn and you can plan the rest of the game out perfectly, knowing that they will probably tap out to verdict on turn 4 and follow up with Jace on turn 5 if they're not dead already.

Post-board it felt like the magma jets and flames weren't doing quite enough, and since this is a tough matchup I
would actually like to devote a couple of extra slots to it. Legion Loyalist as tech against Elspeth was OK, it never did what it was meant to do. I always just played it as a raging goblin, which while not terrible, really isn't that great. Dunno, post board there are just a lot of mediocre stuff left in the deck, and it's hard to find enough sideboard cards to replace them all, or even many of them. If anyone finds a great card for this matchup, I'd probably gladly replace the Burning Earths.

Things I'm thinking about testing in that slot:
Barrage of Expendables
Rakdos Shred-Freak
Pyrewild Shaman
Titan's Strength (someone mentioned this as tech against last breath)
Minotaur Skullcleaver.

I think the Minotaur Skullcleaver has the most potential, personally.

Yeah, the quote system is one of the few things I don't like about this forum. We tried to improve it, but unfortunately it's a VERY elaborate undertaking and we don't have anybody with the know-how or the time to really have a proper go at it. :(

Been loving Rakdos Shred-Freak in nuwen's B/r list. Even Thrill Kill Assassin is solid. Can see the versatility with it in creature based grindy matches.

Also happy bday LP.

Beerthday, LP!
I'm seriously thinking abut using Goblin Diplomats in PyroRed due to issues in Devotion Red matchup. Forcing bad combat is a good way to win this matchup with all the burn and tricks.
Attacking Reckoners and Frostburns aren't that scary anymore.

I suppose independent stores are holding states this weekend, but next week is the TCG player sponsored States.

Diplomats are slow, remember about that. But I think it's still worth a shot far more than those miserable Shortcutters or unreliable in case of this deck Firefist Strikers. Especially since you can do shitty stuff to your opponent like "burn a creature" put elemental token make it block Reckoner sacc before damage comes in. And you are doing shit like that all day.
It also works on trample guys negating all their damage.

Oh I accept it is slow (less so with a hanmer) but I just get excited about tools that allow you to out play and maneuver in an aggressive deck. Reminds me of fun trigger stacking in puresteel or when damage used to go on the stack.

Yep, I got everything except of 3 Magma Jets and 4 Lightning Strikes. And I can't afford buying Mizzium Mortars now.
There aren't many traders with Theros ATM, but you just need to look for certain cards.
Also, care. People tried to sell me Fanatic of Mogis for 4$.
While I bought foil Hammer of Purphoros for 1$.
Blocking a trampler and then sacrificing the blocker won't stop trample damage.
One of the requirements for trample to be activated is to be able to assign the damage to the creature. You are BLOCKING but your opponent cannot assign any damage. Creature doesn't deal any damage this turn.

Not true, a trample creature that is unblocked at the combat damage step will damage you in full, even if it assigned
some of that damage to a blocking creature that is no longer there.

MTG rule 702.19c: If an attacking creature with trample is blocked, but there are no creatures blocking it when damage is assigned, all its damage is assigned to the player or planeswalker it’s attacking.
