Happy to see the functional reprint of O Ring (though I'm sad over the fact that it means my altered full-art O Rings are languishing in a binder), but not happy about the fact that it gives Esper Control another ubiquitious tool. The modular Act of Treason is also pretty spicy...in long, grindy board stalls that's going to be a devastating card.

Nah, eight strings is ostentatious. Seven strings is skating the borderline.

You can't tell me Animals as Leaders isn't at least slightly over-the-top.
If the guy can play that well (and still write real music, looking at you Dream Theater) then there's no reason for him not to

Anyone coming to GP Atlanta let me know! I know all the hotspots. Unfortunately the Civic Center is not located around good bars/strip clubs. I recommend staying in a hotel near midtown, highlands or buckhead. No matter where you choose where you chose the civic center is only 15 mins up I-85 with no traffic.
I'm pretty late to the party, but yeah, we should go out after the GP. You missed a good time here in Charlotte, after the Open we went to Whiskey Warehouse and got shitwrecked after none of us cashed. It was good times, and the vagina to dick ratio was at 1:1 somehow. Good times were had.

PS: Sorry I haven't been around. I've been playtesting like crazy and watching a lot of Archer.

Not sure what deck I'm going to be on going forward. I've tried basically every deck in the format right now and I haven't really liked any of them. My least favorite thus far has been UW, but probably because I don't like going to time on the mill plan in game 1. I play at a pretty brisk pace but even so, if Elspeth doesn't resolve and you have to go on the Elixir plan the game is super boring.

Also tried all of the Monster variants (RUG, Naya, Bant, Jund, GR) and was just not a fan. The deck plays itself.

Mono black was alright and certainly feels like it might win a lot of games in spite of my ability as a player, but I just didn't enjoy it.

Played the mono red as well as the RG aggro lists. They're sweet and I think they're probably even really good because of how prevalent UW and Esper are around
Charlotte, but the deck is borderline unplayable in a field of mono black.

RW burn is good but boring and it loses really badly to any lifegain that resolves without Skullcrack in hand, which isn't where you want to be.

I MIGHT actually start playing Walter White again. The deck does powerful things and it is probably even well positioned since your mad matchups are basically gone. (It was tough to beat Monsters but the deck isn't seeing as much play now.) If I were going to an event with byes I would almost 100% assuredly play it because of how good it is against Esper. :D

Anyone think there´s a possibility of a Delver'esque UB Tempo deck now? With all these good ca giving Bestow critters Lazav is looking more and more like St Traft and the MBA curve itself is nothing to complain about. Dimir has 8 cantrips which is a pre-req for such a deck imho.

Here´s a skeleton:

4 Gnarled Scarhide
4 Pain Seer
3 Herald of Torment
3 Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

4 Quicken
4 Cremate
4 Thoughtseize

13 Counters and Removals to fit the meta

21 Land

Vs Aggro: aggro-control up to 3 cmc. Race and Remove.
Vs Midrange: remove/counter & copy their fatties with Lazav.
Vs Control: build up Lazav with Bestowed critters after the initial race.

Quicken + Thoughtseize is fun if nothing else...

28088 in 2048.

Or is no one doing that anymore.
I am. That game is maddening, especially since (I think it was Jack) one guy said the goal is to make the 2048 block with the lowest score you could. I got somewhere around a flat 20k and I was really happy.

My other goal is to make a 4096 block. I haven't gotten there yet. Highest score for me is 34k.

You shouldn't ever have to mill your opponent out with control. That's a very fringe strategy. The Elixir is there to get your finishers back, but even so, you should usually have one left in your deck by the time you stabilize.

My wife is now addicted to this game. In showing her my strategy I got so close to that 4096! My high score is 36-something.

I lost all interest in 2048 after I got the 2048 block (such ennui, much hipster, wow). About the only game I've ever enjoyed trying to 100% was Super Meat Boy.

Added more decks to my brewing thread, one of which is a janky FNM brew with the other one having an undetermined power level. Come check them out!

Reading Dresden. In the middle of book seven, Dead Beat, laughing my ass of again.
Just some dialogue
Thomas: "How bad is it?"
Dresden: "They drafted me."
Bob: "That's bad, all right."
Actual Spoiler

Spoiler Review

Aegis of the Gods: decent. Stops Thoughtseize and Boros Charm. <3
Banishing Light: yay, Oblivion Ring!
Godsend: seems like a Legacy material for Stoneforge Mystic.

Font of Fortunes: Finally some early game draw.
Sigiled Starfish: Nice wall that fixes your top all day.

Gnarled Scarhide: Another 2/x for 1 for Black.

Eidolon of the Great Revel: decent hatebear.
Dictate of the Twin Gods: woah, that's an actual wincon. Drop this, drop two Boros Charms, drop opponent's jaw.
Harness by Force: after season of playing with Act of Treason, we finally get something fine. I'd say really fine.
Prophetic Flamespeaker: ugh, powerlevel is here, but not sure if it's playable at all. It screams "give me Madcap Skills!"
Spite of Mogis: that's kinda cool removal for burn.

Athreos, God of Passage: welcome our new overlord. This guy gives White Weenie everything it wants.
Difficult decisions for opponent? Reach? Not folding down to Verdicts and stuff? Hell yes. WB Weenie is going to be the new shit on the block.
Disciple of Deceit: he seems to be Legacy/Modern playable for some combos.
Iroas, God of Victory: great card but not a great format for her.

Btw. Yo, I have no fucking internet for 2 weeks at my new house. It fucking sucks.

If you can believe it, Dechs, it only gets better.

Also, don't miss reading all the side stories that have come out in various anthologies...they are all character-driven and add depth to the characters involved. Most of them are collected in the published "Side Jobs", but there have been one or more extra since its publication IIRC.

Saw the rest of the spoiled cards. Was left wonder where the rest of playable cards were? I really thought Daybreak Coronet was going to make the set. To many enchantments are WAY to over costed. White got an early christmas for sealed/draft.

The rest of the spoilers were mainly Limited fodder, which is fine because the cards spoiled before that were so strong for Constructed play.

The art for this set is really good, I'm checking it all out on mythic spoiler. The art on Deserter's Quarters is a reference to the Brazen Bull, a medieval torture device. :gonk:

The full block limited is going to be awesome. I'm actually excited doing the sealed ptq in tampa and then the gp in atlanta having seen this set spoiled. Full block sealed is always the most fun for me too =D.

It seems the only appropriate strategy for Journey PR is "White, please"...The pool is 2-1-2 plus your seeded pack, so white seems the best bet for a primary. Black looks good as well, but it was weaker in the early block thus best to hope for as a strong secondary. All these enchantments and pumps mean that any color with the right cards can be strong synergistically, but white looks to range from good to insane.

Also, red has a lot of good removal and a strong suite of aggressive creatures. I'll pick red and hope to get a good red or blue pool.

Sorry I haven't been around. Been really sick. Missed all week of work and I don't think I've eaten anything in 2 days.

Having said that, new set looks cool. I may actually enjoy a sealed PTQ.
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.
