Knowing your opponent's sideboard is mega sweet. I was playing against Tron at the PTQ in Greensboro yesterday and the dude (surprisingly) did not elect to look at my sideboard, which was unfortunate for him because in the next two games I turn 2 Blood Moon'd the shit out of him.

I understand why you would, free info is great, but why the fuck is that a rule? It makes no sense. You don't generally look at your sideboard unless the game is over. It just seems really stupid to me.

You can look at your own sideboard at any time, as long as you aren't stalling. I do it a lot, especially in eternal formats, because I'm not 100% comfortable with my entire sideboard. I probably read Sowing Salt like 4~ times a tourney on average. :\

I keep my sideboard handy, though. Face-down beside my playmat, so it's always right there. As I see cards in the first match that I would want to target sideboard hate at, I like to double-check that I have it in the board, since I change decks so much.

And then you would probably get either a dirty look or a warning. People look at other zones all the time, this is no different than somebody looking at their graveyard.

Also don't forget about things like Wishes where you can pull what you want from your sideboard. Sometimes it is good to check to see what you have left. I know several Tron players who started looking at my sideboard because of the oddities that I sometimes carry (Hide/Seek, Rain of Gore, etc).

I don't play any graveyard interaction at all in my Affinity list, but I will look at my graveyard regularly to check to see how many copies of cards I have left. I guess I must be slow playing. Why do we not have an animated  smiley yet?

20 Burn decks made it into day two (source) no top8's which is great news for burn grinders

Lots of BGx decks in top8 (no surprise), 2 infect , 2 Robots and 1 Blue Moon

ZERO twins, UWr or Pod

It definitely lessens the chance of hate against us if it didn't top8.

Testing my stream setup in a Standard DE. Between rounds right now.

What happens on MTGO if my opponent never responds to the start of a match? Do I have to watch that timer count down all the way to zero and then I get a win?

After 7-10 minutes you'll get the win (assuming your not the one frozen).

Yep, I just got my confirmation to your response. Free match win for me. :)

Guess my opponent heard how badass I am and was too afraid to show up...to his keyboard...and face a computer screen...right?

It's because they play slow control decks that go to time lol.

I have gone to time once in competitive magic, and it's because my opponent was new and took 85% of the match time.

If there is one big benefit to MODO over paper, it is the chess clock. The fact that I play fast should not give my opponent a benefit on the clock.

You could try not playing slow?

I've never had this issue. My average turn is maybe 45 seconds at most unless I'm playing something particularly thought intensive. This includes OCD habits like looking through my graveyard, (thanks, Innistrad block!) checking my sideboard for relevant cards, and
reaffirming wording on cards on-board. I'm not sure what you're doing that takes longer unless you're tanking on EVERYTHING.

@Taking too long - As long as you're not stalling, take all the time you need. If they get pissed off, tell them to fuck off. Think your decisions through properly. They can learn to wait.

I usually take longer than average to finish a game. At the stores I frequent I'm known to take the longest of all the red players, like it's not uncommon for me to tank for a minute or two at a time. My longest match ups are almost always aggro mirrors. Like, it'll be small aggro vs small aggro and we'll go longer than the control mirror every single time.

If you guys don't record your 8man/DE matches, I highly suggest you start. I found so many things that I would have missed from just yesterday if I wasn't able to go back and watch them again. I don't know if it would have pulled me through in the matches, but you never know.
