It turns a card that couldn't kill you into a creature and turns a card that could into one that can kill you sooner than if you hadn't put part of it into play. It's pretty bad, unless you played Swords to Apes in non-mono u aggro decks because you thought "close enough" reading the text and comparing it to STP.
