Heading forward.
So today we had a lengthy discussion in chat about the direction the site should go and the demographic that we wanted to capture and whether or not Starcity was the devil. We also talked about dicks a fair length. (...hehe.)
Someone mentioned that back in the day, MTGS garnered a lot of its early traffic by being an outlet for new spoilers. That got me to thinking today, there is an ample opportunity ahead of us to do the same.
With the recent C&D at Cockatrice, I'm sure we're all aware that Dragon's Maze is going to need to be downloaded remotely, and the Cockatrice staff is backing away from the entire project slowly, so there's no chance of it coming from there.
People will be looking for an updated .xml file with Dragon Maze's full spoilers, and I think we should jump on the opportunity. It wouldn't even be a gigantic project to take on - creating cards in Cockatrice is very simple -
but I suppose my question is more along the lines of "do you guys think it's worth our time to even do so?"

My thoughts exactly.I'm not opposed to the idea, but before we bite at that as an option (since that heads into a legally dubious area), we should also entertain courting Wizards for spoilers during spoiler season as a traffic driver. Also just a thought, but one we should consider before burning that as a bridge.
That explains why people keep coming over for chicken nuggets

Fingers crossed for a gutter skulk reprint.I am currently working on a rather sexy email to WOTC about getting an official spoiler.

Is it really such a gray area? I made a thread about this on MTGS and got a lot of varying feedback about the whole ordeal, but I think the general consensus was more or less "There is nothing illegal going on here, it's simply a large company trying to strongarm an individual into not using free-to-use information that they release."

Maybe there could be a hidden cock forum compromise?

They still hand out spoilers to MTGS and they're still actively supporting Cockatrice, I don't see how this is an arguing point. It doesn't need to be illegal to make WotC uncomfortable with it (and us by that statement). It seems to me that it is a good idea to be in good terms with the company that makes the hobby this site is supposed to be about.

They had a couple as recently as Avacyn Restored, and given their history you would think Wizards would want nothing to do with them. They don't? Edit: Nevermind for some reason I thought they were the ones that spoiled the ones that Manadeprived did. There are too many damned websites.

Dane, maybe instead of making yourself work hard to resize all of the images you find here and there you could just take them from the spoiler gallery on wizards website, they should be all perfect size there. Just a thought.

I'm gonna' be "that guy" and point out that with the C&D to Cockatrice, any attempt to "update" the program with future sets can and will be seen as a violation of the order itself, and can get them in a lot of trouble. It will also lead to legal problems for this forum for advocating this.So today we had a lengthy discussion in chat about the direction the site should go and the demographic that we wanted to capture and whether or not Starcity was the devil. We also talked about dicks a fair length. (...hehe.)
Someone mentioned that back in the day, MTGS garnered a lot of its early traffic by being an outlet for new spoilers. That got me to thinking today, there is an ample opportunity ahead of us to do the same.

think we should jump on the opportunity. It wouldn't even be a gigantic project to take on - creating cards in Cockatrice is very simple - but I suppose my question is more along the lines of "do you guys think it's worth our time to even do so?"

It may not be illegal but WOTC won't like cockatrice support. What would we all prefer, having a cockatrice server or spoilers and a good relationship with WOTC? I vote spoilers.
It's too bad we don't have a secret subforum where we can coordinate troll attempts where only we can see so that we don't have to catch on because only one of us is an actual rocket scientist.
