LP on Deck design, "Have a powerful and proactive game plan and build your deck with it in mind. Can be nut draw the opponent and beat with human hyper agro, or it can be live to cast progressively larger sphinx's revelations, just make sure it's focused and powerful."
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

There is always next time sir. It never matters where you are at any single point in your journey to greatness, just that the destination is in sight.

Z should start writing little fortune cookie sayings for Magic.

Or better yet, one of those little office calendars with a quote for each day. I can see it now: May 27th, Monday, the art is Stonewright and the quote is "HADOUKEN! "

On another note, I'm burnt to a crisp from yesterday's little beach excursion, the store is deader than a ghost town today, and I'm brainstorming a little writing project for the Standard forum. It's been far too long since I've contributed anything other than gracing the Clan threads with my awesomeness.

Also, good morning all, you sexy Red Mage beasts.

G'morning, Khaos! Dude, do you think you're maybe taking the red mage thing a bit far? I mean, we should all go out in a pyre of flame, but practicing getting cooked alive really seems extreme! ;-)

Question to the masses...In your opinions, can the B/G Midrange/Control deck be improved by splashing into Junk to run some number of Restoration Angel and to add O Ring in the side? It would get rid of the guild gates, and swamps would still be at 16 (down from 18) to get 12 green sources and 8 white.

B/G Midrange - Kelly Thompson - 9th Place, SCG Dallas
[deck]
Creatures (14)
4 Desecration Demon
2 Disciple of Bolas
4 Geralf's Messenger
4 Thragtusk

Planeswalkers (4)
4 Liliana of the Veil

Lands (24)
14 Swamp
2 Golgari Guildgate
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Woodland Cemetery

Spells (18)
3 Abrupt Decay
2
Cremate
1 Putrefy
3 Tragic Slip
2 Victim of Night
3 Mutilate
4 Sign in Blood

Sideboard
2 Ground Seal
2 Underworld Connections
2 Golgari Charm
2 Vraska the Unseen
3 Appetite for Brains
3 Duress

Photo - I learned the hard way that, just because I'm a Red Mage at heart, it doesn't mean I have protection from Red. I glanced at the sunscreen and was like, "SPF 30? Ain't nobody got time for that!"

Good thing I'm spending some time in the meat cooler today. Not only is it a great place to be when you're sunburnt, but it's the best place to be when you're hungover too.

Not that I've ever gone into work hungover or anything before .... XD

The BG Control list has been banging around since early April; I don't recall you commenting on it, zeman. What you built a few weeks back was a BG equivalent of Dos Rakis:

Zemanjaski GB Zombies
[deck]Creatures
4 Diregraf Ghoul
4 Dreg Mangler
4 Geralf's Messenger
4 Gravecrawler
4 Lotleth Troll
4 Rakdos Cackler
2 Skirsdag High Priest

Other Spells
2 Abrupt Decay
2 Putrefy
3 Rancor
1 Sever the Bloodline
2 Sign in Blood
2 Tragic Slip

Land
4 Golgari Guildgate
4 Overgrown Tomb
10 Swamp
4 Woodland Cemetery

Sideboard
2 Appetite for Brains
4 Cremate
2 Duress
1 Sever the Bloodline
2 Skirsdag High Priest
2 Underworld Connections
2 Victim of Night[/deck]

Did I miss something else? I know the control deck is not a real challenger in the format, hence my question about the interactions with Resto and bringing in O RIng as a direct means of dealing with planeswalkers (in place
of Golgari Charm as it doubles up for enchantments). I'm trying to understand why running gates is a better option beyond running fewer shocks.

You need Gates for more green, but you can't run non-black sources on account of Messenger and Sign in Blood - the obvious stuff! Nothing tricky.

Dane on deck design: "I make terrible decks that don't even look good on paper, and a little girl with 'slow in the minds' could probably take a random pile of cards and do a better job. Every single Timmytastic crap card looks like like gold to me, and I'm easy prey for better traders and players alike. Take my advice at your peril."

With that said, I think that going all in on slivers is going to be the wave of the future. Why? Cause slivers...fuck yeah. I loved those bastards back in the day.

Pretty sure you you may have just offended every sliver player out there when you sandwiched that between your statement on deck design and your hilarious sig.

But there are enough black sources (18-20 depending on how you build) to run Messenger reliably, particularly when you're not necessarily curving out to him T3, correct? Against aggro, I would think the plan is to stay alive through spot removal until you Mutilate, then start dropping threats. Messenger and Tusk both both are there to synergize with Disciple, and Demon (as we discussed some time ago) causes aggro to sac and can fly over on Rites and control if they can't drop him.

If you can't hit BB into BBB then the deck doesn't work. Do you always need to? No. But a lot if the time you do ~ not having access to turn 3 messenger vs control screws you; turn 5 messenger is useless for example.

I'll look back farther, James...I remembered the zombie list but not the control. Thanks.

BTW, the control list has been hitting top8's here and there since it first showed up back in April. On MTGTop8 they are mostly listed as "Mono Black Control" erroneously.

I know I'm usually making some "funny" (to me, anyway) remark...but I'm entirely serious when I say that this is possibly the truest thing I've ever seen/heard said in regards to intergender communications.

The second is something *I* said...I was at my LGS, and this guy in high school was talking about this girl that he "sorta likes" (I swear,
there was almost a "tee hee" after that...young, giggly bastards.) The wife of the LGS owner, who also "works" there sometimes started giving him epically bad advice, with the assurance "You can listen to me, I'm a woman, so I know what girls want."

I pulled him aside and said "Shawn...never, EVER listen to another female when it comes to advice on women. Women not only do not know what other women want, but also don't even know what THEY really want. They will unintentionally lie and totally mislead you. They are the devil!"

I've never gotten any advice from a woman that helped me get laid. Not even once.

I had a long period during college where I had to train away my old habits and undo the old bullshit that 13 years of Catholic school and being a "nice guy" had cemented in place.

That's pretty much the short version of what I was saying.

Techniques?

I don't like that...it makes me feel like I'm putting together a plan, which makes me feel skeezy.

The way I look at it, Jay (I think...) from the 40 Year Old Virgin said it best. "Stop putting the pussy on a pedestal."

Girls, especially good-looking ones, get SO used to guys fawning all over them, thinking that they're making headway by complimenting them when that's what EVERY guy does, are bored/turned off by nice guys, who tell them more of the nice things they hear every day. Interesting guys will challenge them, especially on their BS, and won't jump to praise them for every little
thing (if anything.)

Just have fun...flirting is fun. Hooking up is fun. Making yourself socially subservient to a girl just in the HOPE that she might spare a glance your way is not.

I know many techniques. My dad never taught me anything about girls, TV and movies portray it inaccurately, and girls lie/don't know what they like.

Luckily for me, I discovered the pickup community in 2003 (from a warcraft 3 forum) and learned why I wasn't getting any success.

I'm not involved with them anymore, but it was very useful for a time as I learned what women respond to, how an attractive man behaves and how to take control of my life.

Humor is always the best weapon for any situation, at least for me. If you can make somebody laugh (without using too much self-depreciating jokes), then you have an opening to make your move, introduction, or whatever. I've always been the "funny" guy and it's worked for me. But then again, I guess that's me being myself.

Oh, and having manners is never a bad thing.

I know ham's technique -

Step (1): Stop masturbating

Step (2): Become a fucking manly stud due to his body's overproduction of testosterone

Step (3): Invite a girl over to watch the first episode of GoT.

Step (4): ???

Step (5): Profit. This also involves the woman making a big plate of bacon for breakfast.

It's a little bit more work than Z's or redthirts's technique, which just involves being born amazingly awesome and having trademark body parts such as cauliflower ears and/or 12 mile long fucksticks, but it does work.

Dammit, I'm supposed to be writing about the Magics but I'm too busy analyzing my Clansbros ways with women. What's wrong with me!?

NSFW probably, but here's a protip for anyone regularly trying to get new women.

This is for when you have her alone and you're making out and looking to start tearing clothes off. During the makeout, grab her hand on put it on your hard dick. Every woman I've done this to goes into a goddamn trance. Most will start undoing your belt right there. Shirt off, pick her up and take her into your room.

Problem: solved.

Weirdly enough, I've never had to do this. Usually my hand is already on their tits, ass, or rubbing on their pussy through their jeans or panties. As a guitar player, I have pretty strong and nimble fingers so I let those do the "talking". I talk them all the way to the bedroom or bar room bathroom....

I've found that going too quickly for the tits can freak a woman out.

If she's been out with you a bunch of times, that's probably ok. This one is effective on the girls you've only seen once or you're alone on a first date.
