I think I would rather play the red god in Burn at the Stake ft. Young Pyromancer if I was going to play him at all. That deck's main objective is already to make tokens. Granted, that deck dies at rotation (with the loss of Faithless Looting and Past into Flames,) but I might try and build a token storm deck in Modern with these cards.

I can't speak for Alex, but I usually compare prices between ebay and tcgplayer, and then just buy from whoever is cheapest.

I preordered everything from Starcity even before I was an employee. They're simply the most reputable source, and if I'm only paying a few more cents per card, that's fine with me, because at least I know for certain that they'll show up. I had a bad experience with preordering from smaller shops back during Shards and I haven't really gone back to doing that since then. (Ebay specifically.)

Channel Fireball might be fine too, I don't really buy anything but foils from them usually. And that's not even preordered, those are usually backdraft foils for my cube.

PS: I'm usually a pretty cheap bastard when it comes to just about everything in life. But when it comes to buying things online I will almost always pay more money just to avoid the hassle of having to deal with refunds/MIA products/USPS because they simply aren't worth the time you spend in the long run. If you've ever had to deal with the USPS due to Ebay fraud, you'll find out pretty quick just how much money your time is worth...

how do you manage to pay more for your preorders while also being a budget player who avoids the best cards like the plague ?
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.

I'm feeling pretty good about what Theros is bringing to my Modern Boros deck. It's already shitting on the UWR players on MTGO, and should only get better with a few choice cards.

[i:afaac369]In media res[/i:afaac369]; writers do this when detailed exposition is out of the question, but they need the audience to take a bunch of setup for granted. Human brains lap up the connected bits of information and inference does the rest. There's a sequel film, but I haven't seen it.

Steins;Gate was pretty good, but I got angry at some of the plot point choices. The episodes that deal with time loop are excellent though, which IMO is a hard concept to approach without pulling a snooze-fest like Murray in Groundhog's Day.
So high, so low, so many things to know.

I'm not a budget player...? I think you have me confused with someone else. The article I wrote is based on my experiences from when I was originally getting into the game, which was when I was a broke-ass high school kid. I've been freerolling Magic since, like, Mirrodin/Kamigawa.

Right!! they can't all be grossly underevaluated like boros reckoners. I love looking for the best sleepers but when shit like VoR happens and it never drops, I get a little worried that $20 a pop may be the best its gonna be for awhile. Anyhoo, got 4 of the new HOUND!!! I don't think I will enjoy bloodrushing him as much as the Griselhound but I will try.

He's already that much? Geez, I'm glad I'm not jumping on that bandwagon right away. This set is going to get ripped open almost as much as Return to Ravnica, so I'm pretty confident that he'll drop.

Yeah, thats gamble we all take. What's is everyones thoughts on thoughtseize. I am leaning towards the RakHammer shell it looks like we will have. But will it stay at $25-$30 range or pull a mutavault and drop to $10-$15. Its gonna be a 4-of in every black deck, from here to the end of time now. Its weird I think the God will go up, but a multi-format staple like thoughtseize will go down. Thank Purphoros they printed it at rare.

It'll go down. Like I said, Theros is going to be MASSIVELY opened, the market will get saturated with these cards. We'll see a very similar situation to the one we saw with Return to Ravnica, where for a while the mythic staples from R2R were worth under $10. Hell, I got my Sphinx's Revelations for $7 a piece...

I'm looking at either BR Midrange or straight Mono R midrange. The pulls to Black being discard, Rakdos's Return, terrors and Read the Bones; more scry makes Chandra better and better. Discard lets you resolve her. Then just draw two cards a turn until your opponent is dead.

UR could work, but I'm not seeing the cards for it right now.

Depending on manafixing and sideboard options, I can see Rakdos mid being a deck, but in a perfect world, I'd prefer mono-red.

I really just want to play this manabase:

[deck]Lands (25):
21 Mountain
3 Mutavault
1 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx[/deck]

Also noteworthy is that read the bones has you scry, then draw so you can't really set up Chandra with it. Still, card draw is card draw, and scry is scry. The combination of thoughtseize, read the bones, and Chandra does push my thoughts towards Rakdo's in a midrange/control meta as even though you're losing lots of life, you're on average gonna have comparable card quality with (hopefully) superior board presence and the red dimension of the aggressive draws+chicken inducing reach (chicken being the point in the game where you're opponent is dead to whatever burn spell and thus must leave counter mana up...forever or hold multiple spells to beat a bolt).
You gotta understand, I love the beatdown. I really do. I always have.

Beatdown is hard, though.

I thought it was draw 2, scry 2 for some reason, which is debatably better going long at least.

Still, I really just want access to discard and terrors in the board to beat up on control and midrange, since I think most aggro would be a walk for midrangey red.

Print some burn spells damn you.

This is EXACTLY what I'm looking at right now - posted in the red after rotation thread. I'm getting really excited for a deck built around this shell:

Young Pyromancer
Chandra, Pyromaster
Magma Jet
Thoughtseize
Rakdos's Return
Read the Bones

Read the
bones is 3B, scry 2, draw 2, lose 2 life, sorcery. Digging up to 4 deep in this type of shell promises to be so good. I just want to burn early dorks and then go to town on their hands, all while spewing tokens onto the field. And I know, Ham, that sentence can be twisted around in so many ways...

If we look to ISD and RTR as the openers for their blocks, we got the following:

ISD
[cards]Devil's Play
Geistflame
Brimstone Volley
Rolling Temblor
Harvest Pyre
Blasphemous Act[/cards]

RTR

[cards]Annihilating Fire
Electrickery
Explosive Impact
Mizzium Mortars
Rakdos's Return
Street Spasm[/cards]

So far for THS, we've seen only Magma Jet; given the two lists above, even though not all the cards are strictly burn, we should without question be seeing more red damage spells at every level of rarity save possibly Mythic.

Works well with Domri I suppose.

Need to more fully ponder the implications of this card. Not sure what, if any abuses are possible with his plus and a Young Pyromancer deck.

Looks to me like an enabler for another RG Ramp deck a la WRR; it doesn't find you lands, but it gives you mana to cast big stuff and can be accelerated out with dorks (particularly the new hexproof one). Just first blush...

It's good to see 5CMC hasty drop. Time will tell if being 4/4 is enough (but I believe it is). Protection from White and his Monstrous are just creaming of the top.
If I'd play Xanagos somewhere, It'd be Gruul Deck Wins with some mana sinks. BTE helps you at making field full. So either you're generating a lot of mana to cast for examle Clan Defiance or just spawn another token. He seems fine, but I'm not going crazy on him.
