You know, while owning the shop I encountered that sort of thing a lot: sometimes, for a period of time, people would just open what they needed/got luckier with their packs with their packs and could trade into what they needed. It generally works for about half a set (I usually called it the half-life of the set), and produces the most fascinating effects on the local meta. There was one kid for instance, he didn't have a lot of spending cash but we let him clean the back rooms for us for 2 packs a week, and for about 5 weeks straight one of those two pity packs would contain a Jace the Mind Sculptor. It also happened on a local scale, I noticed for a while that Snapcaster mages were easier to come by at my shop than elsewhere, to the point that I started to wonder if Wizards was janking their own variances to subtly push certain strategies in a micrometa.
