The only reason I'd say stonewright isn't seeing play right now is because the majority of red mages are
A)Playing R/G agro which is a faster, lower curve deck that only has 18/19 red sources and
B)Since the r/g agro deck has put up some results, people being lazy are infinitely more likely to keep playing that list instead of exploring other options.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't be playing r/g or that they should be playing stonewright, I'm merely stating the why of what's happening.
We could also talk about Ruric-Thar in Reid and Kiblers respective jund decks. It's a reasonable bet that if someone suggested playing that 6 drop over say Sire, people would scoff as Ruric had zero results prior to this past weekend. Going forward? 99% of Jund players are going to copy Reid's deck regardless of if the meta changes globally or locally simply because of the results of 1 player.
If people do start
playing mono-red going forward, I'd be comfortable betting on stony getting his shine on. Pre-Stomping ground, Ari Lax top 4'd a GP playing mono-red and in an article by Cedric Philips suggesting to cut stonewright in higher curve red decks, Lax said he'd rather cut Thundermaw hellkite as Stonewright is your 1-8 drop allowing you to efficiently use your mana every turn when things don't go according to plan.
Assuming new Chanrda is worth building around along with other new powerful cards like Young pyromancer and Chandra's phoenix, it's perfectly reasonable to expect stonewright to be apart of that deck. You're theoretically going to be able to churn out expendable 1/1 tokens and recurring hasty fliers along with a walker that makes blocking difficult for the opponent. Stonewright paired with 1/3 of a card(Elemental token), 2/2 first strikers, or fliers exacerbates the un-profitable blocks conundrum that new red wants to put opponents in during the midgame and is the only non-embarrassing 1-drop
topdeck in said midgame.
For people that actually design decks from the ground up as opposed to tunning(which is completely different, most magic players that put any effort into there decks focus on tuning as brewing takes more time and is higher variance. See Patrick Chapin anytime ever), it's important to explore where your deck concept fits in the meta and what tools you have at your disposal to optimally leverage your gameplan. For me and Zeman, we're mostly trying to build an aggressive red deck that has perfect mana(significant edge in agro mirrors), can grind through controls answers, and still retains the ability to blow anyone out with explosive draws, though that's less likely and more of a free-roll. Stonewright fits this concept nicely, hence it's in our initial decklists which are in their INFANT PHASES OF BREWING.
*Forest Gump voice* And that's all I've got to say about that.

Why are you so angry on top of being so wrong?no. it's basically unplayable in this meta. you have not cracked something the rest of the entire standard community has not. card was given up on long long ago.And it's good.fucks sake how does an entire hive of red players play a card that has zero place in the meta and hasn't for a year
Most of us are on AIR now,
which has exactly 0 Stronewrights in it. And that's if we're playing Standard at all. (Zeman and I play a lot of Legacy, for instance.)
Not to mention that you seem to have some kind of fantasy notion that MODO and paper Magic metas are the same, which could quite possibly be the most incorrect assessment ever. Those sledgehammer decks with Stonewright were good in a world without Burning-Tree Emissary, but people stopped playing it BECAUSE those decks now exist. On MODO back before Burning-Tree, like 90%+ of your matchups were either Naya or Junk, both of which mono red shits all over. This wasn't really the case in paper, where Hexproof picked up popularity, as did Jund much more quickly. MODO is basically just the Japan of Magic: it picks up on things way slower, but it usually loves them harder than paper players.
We're not suggesting people play "bad decks" at events that matter, but we do like people to get out there and play FNM with the decks and point out flaws from a
perspective that perhaps we didn't pick up on right away. That's deckbuilding vs. tuning. When I first started playing my Boros list back in Gatecrash, it wasn't IMMEDIATELY apparent to me just how powerful my small synergies were, I just knew they were in the deck. It took actually playing with the deck to truly appreciate it.

where in my original post did i say that i was using mtgo results? all i said was that you're a tard for trying to build a defense off mtgo being separate from offline -- there is no offline meta except at an fnm or sliiiight regional preferences. i understand that you aren't as into standard as me and don't use the resources available to you, but just because you "skim mtgo results" does not mean that i and the rest of the universe aren't doing a bit more legwork
Standard hobos who play budget garbage should be looked upon with suspicion.

There's a difference between saying MODO and paper are different and denying modo. I check modo lists most every day from daily events to premier events. Having said that, I don't play in daily events, pemiere events, or modo ptqs. I play FNM, paper PTQ's, GPs, and 5ks.calling someone wrong doesn't make them wrong
the person who denies mtgo when debating a standard meta is the person who is a tard
Modo information is relevant to me, but not the end all, be all.
I'm actually kind of disappointed at the terrible attitude being displayed here. Instead of discussing like and adult, you're basically ranting like a child with your fingers in your ears and then you use the word respect?
Pretty pathetic.

The difference is I don't need to do legwork, I can just look at cards and know whether or not they're good at a given time based on very basic information. Generally speaking what cards are being played by your run-of-the-mill "what won last week" players. Thiswhere in my original post did i say that i was using mtgo results? all i said was that you're a tard for trying to build a defense off mtgo being separate from offline -- there is no offline meta except at an fnm or sliiiight regional preferences. i understand that you aren't as into standard as me and don't use the resources available to you, but just because you "skim mtgo results" does not mean that i and the rest of the universe aren't doing a bit more legwork
doesn't take very much research. "Oh, so people are playing Bonfire again, I guess these one toughness guys are unplayable," etc. Stonewright was fine for its time. It's bad now thanks to things like Bonfire getting picked up by Jund, as well as simply being too slow for aggressive mirrors.
Of course I could also just make 8 separate posts, all equally illegible and nonsensical, basically just saying "NO U" instead of actually discussing the topic at hand. That's more your speed.

Besides, what's the point of discussing magic if only modo counts and not everyone plays modo? I think we discuss things for enjoyment, understanding and a pursuit of success.
I enjoy magic, I understand magic a lot better then most people, and I generally place well in all constructed events I play in from FNM's to PTQ's with a non insignificant amount of cash being won along the way.
But apparently, me and mine are tards, despite being able to form coherent sentences as opposed wantonly calling people idiots.

alex's hoity-toity posts remind me of some of the great gutter rage quitters last words, where they try to turn the tables and troll back that they are too mature for the gutter anyways. its always awkward.

Nobody's being defensive. We're simply telling you that your spewing garbage and/or generally make ignorant statements.
I don't even know why your on a rant about stonewright. Neither do I know where you get the idea that we're all casuals.
I know Alex has played in at least one Pro Tour and I while I myself haven't, I intentionally drew myself out of a PTQ once(I was in the military and I had a deployment coming up) and I was 1 win outside of top 8 in my first highly competitive event in 3 years. Now that I know longer have government commitments I'm semi-actively pursuing my trip to the big stage and I've never made a non-competitive statement in the context of competitive play.
But feel free to make blanket ignorant statements. Being a vet means you can thank me for your right to make a fool of yourself
