You know, even disregarding the strange reverberations of the discussion, Imma just go on record as saying I still don't get the appeal of poutine. Soggy fries just aren't something I can get behind.

I don't have the slightest clue of what you guys are talking about

For me Poutine is the name of the President of Russia in French.

Which is strange, when you think about it. As an American, my usual response to the question of making a meal more delicious would be to pour more gravy on it.

Then again, American cuisine is such a mongrel beast these days it's probably a little silly to even question other people's taste in food at all. Too bad Mogadishu is awol these days, I've always wanted to discuss Nyorlins cooking with him; the way they blend such disparate ingredients and blend such strange flavors together has always fascinated me.

Noone has heard about such thing as American Cuisine over here in the EU.

(I'm sure it exists, but All I ever saw in the US was fast food, then Italian, Greek, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Peruvian Cuisine, etc...)

That's the heart of the issue, yeah. It does exist but yet it doesn't. The idea of an "average" American meal is so far away from what we actually eat that it's almost another beast entirely, but yet we all have snapshots of baked ham with gravy or a duck crammed inside a chicken crammed inside a turkey and then deep-fat fried or what have you, and that snapshot is divided by region in the same way that you might have French cuisine in France but not in Germany. In reality, we just eat McDonald's most every day, but those rare times when we actually sit down and eat at Christmas or whatever define our palettes. Up here, in the upper-middle states, we have a
very bland palette, it's a common joke to say we were raised on a "strict Lutheran diet of hot dish and ham", but when we start to long for stuff with some bite to it we tend to go a little overboard and we do seek out the exotic dishes in our quest for something new and interesting.

tl;dr:
The heart and soul of American cuisine is to cram everything into our mouths instead of caring what we cram into our mouths.

While we're on the subject of Canada someone want to tell me what that whole Quebec thing is all aboot? The more I read up on all their different rules and possible successions and suchlike, the more I'm drawing the conclusion that they're the diestoremoval.com of intra-country politics.

I drew a similar conclusion, which when coupled with the fact that it's considered such a viable source of income for a restaurant to make it's like the national food, probably means we're just undervaluing how often Canadians get drunk enough to go out naked when it's below freezing.
