A guy went 12-3 at the GP this past weekend with this list.... I need a deck for invitational in march to start practicing with.

Is this a good place to start or should I go with a UR Delver list? I heard the pyro version is fairly hard to pilot

I'd go with Lucy from Elfen Lied. That was my snap call. Yeah, I might have issues.

I mean Akainu from one piece, because I'm a badass.

What kinds decks are you able to make, Purp? Legacy is such an open format with so many fun decks that it would be a shame to have to settle for something that isn't too competitive or reliable and that you could easily play in Modern. My recommendation would be to play some kind of combo deck if you have the resources available and the time to learn, since Legacy is one of the only formats where you can play a powerful, fun and interactive combo deck.

I'd go with something furry and cuddly, like Totoro.

Cabal Therapy is the most expensive card in the list and it could be replaced with two [card]Night's Whisper[/card] or Infernal Contract for a little more card draw.

I'm probably going to be playing something similar as my Legacy starter deck (between this and Mono Black Reanimator).

I don't play Legacy (I never really looked into it because it is very expensive to start), but I'd be fine with playing a list like this (if it can actually compete). Aside from some messing around on Cockatrice, I've never played anything other than aggro, and I'd love to learn how to play combo well (along with control, to a degree).

One thing that stuck out to me about the list is that it runs no basic lands. I don't know if this is common practice with storm decks or if it is potentially a flaw with the list.

Don't need basics. Blood Moon and Back to Basics isn't really a thing in Legacy. Wasteland is but Storm decks generally don't have a problem with Wasteland. Plus even if Blood Moon is played this deck has ways to fight through it (Past in Flames, Lotus Petal, Manamorphose, Duress, Cabal Therapy).

Blood Moon IS a rather large player in Legacy. Painter's Stone...? Most decks literally scoop to the T1 Blood Moon. Don't be that guy.

Given that daily events will be gone for the time being, maybe I'll just put those e-cards down and do something else.

I'd be Robin Mask (Kinnikuman), since we have a lot of things in common.

But Painter's Stone is not even 2% of the meta. A lot of decks scoop to it game one. That's a fallacious point.

And there's no way around the manabase in a budget build. It's certainly not optimal but those are the concessions you make in keeping a budget.
