Pray to Purphoros that I don't go to jail.

Clearwater... Florida?
I live in Florida, yes.

I have a hard time accepting that you were a teen in the 70's, mostly because my parents were teens in the 70's and I'm 27 (which is like 50 in gay years).

This all started from a thread on why Kalonian Hydra doesn't see play(cause it's bad).

To be fair everything over 21-22 "is like 50 in gay years".
This is one of the many reasons I steer clear "gay culture", youth worship is annoying and amyl nitrates give me a headache.

re: Doctor Who--I was beginning to wonder if anyone here watched it as somehow it's never really come into focus here compared to Firefly and AGoT.
Ever noticed that fez there in the avy?
I'm still only partway through S4 so I'm pretty biased towards Tennant at this point...Eccleston was great from the perspective that he personified well the sardonic, heavy end of seeing so much of history (bagging on our stupidity ans shortsightedness), but he lacked the range of Tennant. I've only seen Smith in one Christmas special, but he seemed somewhat a shadow of Tennant. Still, I admit that I need to see Smith's seasons
before dropping real opinion. But regardless, we love the show here...my son got all 7 seasons of the reboot on DVD from his mom for his birthday and he dressed as Smith-version for Halloween (as he lacked the suit and coat for Tennant) and I am now tasked with acquiring Converse Chucks in various colors for Christmas.
For us (wife and me) Tennant is our Doctor, no doubt about it. Eccleston was great, and I like the more whimsical Smith as well. Captain Jack...Oh myyy...that's all I'm going to say.
Anyway...companions!
Rose - Ok.
Martha - Very flat, too in love with the Doctor.
Donna - Oh yes!
The Ponds - Amy is, again, too in love with the Doctor (ok, maybe not in love, but she looks up to him way too much). And Rory is too much of a bumbling fool at times. First episodes/season with the Ponds:

, by the end of the first half of season 7: Oh god, will you get rid of the Ponds already!, then their final episode:
Clara -
The latter is a hoot as I explained the history of Chucks to the kid...he still has trouble believing that people actually chose to play sports in a flat-bottomed shoe with no support, much less accept that I wore the same shoes as a teen in the 70's.
People actually still chose to do sports in flat-bottomed, no support shoes. Merrell
Barefoot range, Vibram Five Fingers, shoes like that. I ran a half-marathon this September in my Merrell Trail Gloves (zero drop, no support, about 4-5 mm sole) without any problems (not recommended without proper longterm training/experience with "barefoot" running", though). Support in shoes is really overrated. The book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, and my own experience have really convinced me of that.

You see the same stupid shit on the MTG: Charlotte page too. There's also CasualNet, which is a big MTG group set out of Florida, and you get equally moronic stuff coming from there.
I've had to unfollow a lot of these groups because I just can't help but want to go upside their head.

@platypus - Nope, I never caught that that was a fez...damn! Agree with you on what I've seen of companions so far. I'm tangentially aware of barefoot running/trail and the like, but my son's view is that of a true techy-age kid.
@DS - I should clarify that my teens were more 80's than 70's, though my Chuck-wearing years would have been the latter. I was born in '66, so it's not outside the realm of reality that I could be "dad" to many folks here. Windstrider is in the same neighborhood...we're both big kids at heart and our own kids keep us young. It's not surprising that we both gravitate towards teaching as well.

I run in combat boots, then again I do everything but sleep, fuck, and bathe in combat boots (actually I have done the first and second in them too, but I don't make a habit of it). I messed up my knees and ankles in
the military pretty bad, and the extra support works wonders, plus they look awesome, go with everything, and last for fucking ever. Just replaced my first pair that I was issued in basic training 9 years ago (averaging about 4 wears per week), and I know that it was $150 well spent.
Now to cook my dinner: pork ramen with kielbasa.

Yeah, I was born I '86 so you are definitely in that range, not trying to be rude or insulting, I was just a little surprised. I want to have kids someday, but I hate 99% of the people under 18 that I am exposed to (compared to only 95% of people 18+), and I have some serious mental health issues that would make adopting a
difficult proposition even if I were financially stable (and yet I still have an active TS clearance, go figure).

Got through most of the Smith w/ Ponds Doctor Episodes and find the Ponds pretty boring. Have not caught up to Clara yet. Donna Noble pretty much became my fav companion after going through two companions that were in love with him. Was great they gave him a companion that was again female but also just his friend.
50th Anniversary episode was damn cool. Never got to really see Matt Smith take on the role of the doctor too much since most of the episodes I saw of his felt more like The Ponds w/ The Doctor.

Yeah I was about to crash, but tomorrow I'm going to set up groups for playtesting.
Also I have to come up with a new banlist for Villager League, our first season came to a close on Sunday. I regrettably didn't win a box, although I walked away with 2 fat packs, so no complaints for $20 entry. We're redoing the ban list to be in-line with current prices, as well as banning a few things we thought were a little oppressive. (Mostly Grey Merchant and Fanatic of Mogis, since out of the 25 players in the League, 18 of them were playing some type of mono colored devotion deck.)

I played mono blue walls, and had the third highest win percentage. I was actually one of the only people on the league with blue in their deck at all...

I used combat boots exclusively in my early 20' as well.
When it comes to support in shoes, minimalist trends and stuff like that, I won't get preachy. It's not for everyone, and there certainly are people that really need the support. Hence me calling it overrated rather than unnecessary. I do believe though, and this is based on personal experience (and I've never had any foot/knee problems, so... ), that sport shoes since the 70' have way too much support that isn't really needed to that extent. Long term buildup of muscles in ankles and feet and a change towards a midfoot/forefoot stride instead of heel striking is much better than bulky supported sport shoes, I think. Heel striking (at least when running, hard to avoid when walking) is really nasty on the knees. Which is of course why they started developing more support in the first place, but more support -> more heel strike -> more knee problems -> and so on. I'm not convinced that real barefoot running is the best way either, some sort of middle way is probably best. I will probably do a lot of running in Merrells Bare Access 2 next year, it's a shoe with a slight heel (so not zero-drop) and a bit thicker sole compared to their Trail Glove and Tough Glove (which I just love, wear them every day). I've tried them once and it was just bliss running in them.
Ok, enough rambling on a subject probably nobody is interested in...back to the

- mode discussions...

Heal striking shouldn't be an issue, even remotely, in anything 800M or less, since only the balls of your feet should touch ground. Over longer ranges I have no idea, I have always hated long distance running, in track I threw discus and did 110 high hurdles (so I got to sit on my ass most of the track meets as both of those events were very early), and in the military I avoided running anything over the mile and half for PT tests (and did poorly at that so I made up the points in pushups and crunches).
Just finished rewatching gundam wing, and wow are most of the characters way flatter than I remembered. Amuro on his own had more depth than all the gundam wing gundam pilots combined, and of them quatre made up most of it. Zechs' Char clone status is even more obvious, and the only characters I found compelling were Quatre and Noin (and even then meh). It's really rough when you are forced to take the nostalgia
filter off things you enjoyed a while back.

Yeah, for shorter distances heel striking isn't an issue, because the faster you run the more you forefoot strike. Fast long distance runner probably don't have any problems with it as well, for the same reasons. It's when you get slower
that you start to land on you heel, and if you overstride (a cadence of about 170-180 short strides per minute is something to strive for when running). Traditional running shoes are more forgiving of a bad running form, minimalist running shoes really forces you to think about the form and how you run.

I remember that show, it was on Cartoon Network when I was like... 12 or something. I remember that was the show with the ten billion Starcraft use map setting maps based on it and how it had a coup d'etat every 4 episodes.

Our unit supply sergeant was pretty cool and we got along...I traded up for new boots just before I discharged to take commission in the PHS. I just unpacked and passed on a nearly-new pair of 90's-era speedlace boots to my son. He's currently most into his Chucks, but he does wear them occasionally and loves them.

Khaos, I feel like we should establish some ground rules before we party:
1. Nothing comes out of your pants while I am around.
2. Nothing goes in my ass.
3. Do not get me shot or arrested.
Normally I'd consider those a given, but...
