I'll be honest, I still can't figure out why Esper is a playable deck. The pile is just so...loose.

I've beaten SS with mono red before. The matchup is not unwinnable. And no I didn't play Leyline of Punishment.

I've never thought Esper was a good deck but it is playable. Just gets beaten pretty bad by aggressive strategies where UW stands a better chance. All those scrylands are icky.

I've beaten SS numerous times, but it's not easy. The odds are just greatly in the other deck's favor. Plus most SS pilots I've faced were just....terrible.

Esper is the only deck other then burn that can make use of 8 scrylands. That's why Esper's playable.

Also, Jace/Sphinx/Thoughtseize.

I actually read that site quite a bit but its mostly because a lot of the people I used to interact with on MTGS are over there.

good man. i have a uw list for you if you want it.
I'd like to see your list. I'm on the fence whether I should play the Aetherling version or the version with just Elspeth and Jace.

What do you like more - fast clocks or post-wrath recovery?

Could always just stick in a single AEtherling, I guess.

ONe thing that is interesting about blue white is boarding based on if you won or lost game 1. Sometimes, your postboard plan becomes JMA because ain't nobody got time to bore people to death.

I'd say the appeal of UW though is the fact that you don't have to play win-cons, so I'm inclined to ditch aetherling.

Not playing win cons is nice; I do t think Esper can do that though; your own mana base and the inclusion of many more early game cards would seem to pull in the opposite direction.

Assuming you meant Don't Z, I agree. Esper is SUPPOSED to play win cons IMO.

Lots of my games are won by attacking 5 times with blood baron starting turn 6.

Yea, Esper can't play the same inevitable long game as UW so you need to take them out sooner. BB is the best card for that, it just isn't good. Green decks being so awful make it playable; if not for Mono B and Mono B then BB wouldn't be a card; but hey, this is the world we live in.

Blood Baron is good in the metagame. It's not good. Shock isn't intrinsically good either, but done weeks it's the best card in your deck. That's competitive magic.

Now give me your deck ideas so I can rename them and claim them as my own.

Saying it's not a good card when that's only relevant outside of the format where living in(aka, a fake format that nobody plays in) isn't useful unless you add qualifiers to your otherwise worthless statement.

You should listen to me. I won last weeks FNM.
