Desolation of Smaug was awful.
If there was ever any doubt that this clan is comprised of the neckbeardiest of the neckbeards, the group dislike of the Hobbit resolidified things

Wait, wait, wait. The defining characteristics of the clan are that you like, oh I dunno, dragons, dwarves, and dicks? And here comes a movie that not only gives you that but adds the quote "I am fire. I am death." as gravy, and you've all decided you don't like it?

Made top 4 at Modern FNM tonight with UR Delver. Runechanter's Pike is nuts.
Bro, I fucking told ya!
I was skeptical, but it won me two games that I would not have won otherwise.
It's pretty boss when you're playing with Thought Scour.
But even then, even I'm surprised at how quickly my yard fills up even when I don't draw it.

Did you play with Lavamancer also?

JS - Kick Ass Torrentz will pretty much find you everything you'll need.
I ended up playing the list with no Lavaman or Thought Scour. Ran Serum Visions instead.

Game of the night was outracing an aggro deck that thought for sure he had me beat. He swung for the fences with his zombies with me having Young Peezy and four elemental tokes. I declare no blocks and after combat he played Deathrite and Tymaret as blockers. No cards in his hand. He's at 16.

Me: EOT bolt you, trigger. Snapcaster targetting bolt, bolt you, trigger. My turn Vapor Snag Tymaret, swing for the win.

Him: angrily scoops cards.

Love this deck.

I was planning on running this while I collect fetches I need for UR Twin, but I had so much fun with the deck last night I may drop that idea and just run this.

It's definitely fun. I built it because I needed to give my brain a rest from Red Aggro in Modern. As it turns out, I love drawing cards, counterspells, and making tempo plays as much as I like slinging Bolts.

Also, I like knowing that the Snapcasters I had collecting dust for almost a year and a half are now being put to good use.

The format is all about "build a giant threath". this is supported by the main mechanics , bestow and monstrosity. Removal sucks just because it can usually eat the only opponent's threath, so at less mana cost it would have been devastating. Anyway the best removal spells are blue bounce spells (voyage's end, griptide).
the only strategy that differs from "build a giant threath" is the heroic one, usually in red/white decks that play a lot of small creatures with heroic and a lot of combat tricks.
Yes, the format is quite boring.

Currently sitting at 4-2 at the ptq. Lost a close one vs a black based rakdos aggro, then got nutted on by an orzhov control, and couldn't draw diddly.

Top8 is pretty much impossible, but top16 gets shit, so still playing.

Did not do do well at FNM I did fine till I ran into a UW deck. He drew 3 RTR Jace and more draw than I could handle both damn games. I fucking hate that deck and wonder if he cheating some how as his hands are always to good to be true. All I did was react to his plays or future plays after thoughtsieze. I shuffled his deck just to be sure, but it did not good. Whatever he needed to draw against me; he drew it or double of it. Just bull shit no way draws constantly from him. My deck was getting great draws, but could not keep up against his constant digging. I play mono-black devotion and I usually eat UW easy. WTH?

It's a good deck, very consistent. I doubt he is cheating if you are actively looking for it and see nothing shady.

Don't know if cheating or not, but the thing that makes UW so good right now is that it's such a simple, efficient, concise control
list. They basically have 1 threat (Elspeth), 1 way to recycle everything (Elixir) to go through their cards infinite times, and the rest is comprised of counters/removal and card advantage engines.

I'm actually surprised you do so well against UW if you're on MBD. Mono-black is a slower deck too, and usually a control deck like UW will have a better matchup against something slower.

Yeah, control smacks around mono black pretty good.

I watched other games he played, same result. I am now curious to see how many of each copy he is running. Will be putting pithing needle in my side board again. Single discard just ain't cutting it lately against UW.
