So, I showed that mono-black edh brew to my girlfriend and I am officially a bad person and banned from playing it against her if I ever get it together...
I am also thinking the the suggestion of the hot female as the commander was a good one. It'd keep the theme since mycurrent commanders are merieke ri berit and gisela

I am either incredibly lucky or very good at evaluating the MTG market. Got my playset of Mutavaults at $10 per, now at $30. Bought three Griselbrand at $10 per two months ago, now at $25. Bought four Thundermaw Hellkite last year at $10 per, sold at $35 per.
Wondering if I should sell the Griselbrands before BNG release since Modern ban announcements will come. Griselbrand himself may not be banned, but there are whispers of Goryo's Vengenace getting the axe, which would devalue him. I can't imagine his price more than doubling over the past month due only to Legacy. Surely it must be due to the Modern GP season.

Val:
Griselbrand is popular because of Legacy, he sees little to no Modern play. The Goryo's Vengeance / Fury of the Horde Modern deck is fringe as all hell. I doubt Goryo will be banned, and even if it was, it wouldn't affect Modern much.
AVR was a small, underdrafted third set, there aren't a lot of copies of Griselbrand floating around with no reprint likely. I'd keep them.

But why the spike over such a short period of time? It's not like there have been more Legacy events hosted all of a sudden. Maybe a lot of speculators driving up the price?

Not more events, more players. I composed a long explanation, and then my wifi died. Generally:
- People only play Legacy when they are willing to invest more money into Magic.
- The longer you play, the more you are willing to invest.
- Magic has become more and more popular (similar to the baby-boomer effect)
- More people follow SCG coverage than ever, and SCG promotes Legacy
- Players who started playing in the last few years have reached the point where they are willing to invest in reserved-list staples.

Is that any better than needle or any Instant spot removal spell ever? With my playgroup, I'd rather see Kiki Jiki banned at this point. It's getting super annoying. I play Nevermore in my deck just to stop it.

Pithing Needle would work. It's not even Kiki Jiki, it's the guy who plays him. Pretty much everyone is casual, even though we play for store credit, but these two guys build decks that are super competitive and it's ruining the play group. Sunday, I've got my dick deck ready and I plan on crushing them.

I do that with Sygg, River Guide all the time. On Sunday I played a 4-man game for a little store credit, and since my deck looked kind of durdly and non-threatening on turn 6, nobody fucked with me.Pithing Needle would work. Turn 9 I had Mirran Crusader with Sword of War and Peace, [card]Umezawa's Jitte[/card], and Argentum Armor on it. Also had a Stoneforge Mystic and Batterskull in hand, but it wasn't even necessary. I killed two of the three opponents before they could do anything about it, and I smashed the last guy because he couldn't block me thanks to protections, lul.

It's not their job to make sure you have fun, they're not obligated to make their decks worse and enjoy the game less so you can enjoy it more, and even if there was some sort of responsibility on their part to cater to your expectations of what EDH should be, there's no way in hell you can expect them to gimp themselves when there's prize support on the line.
If their good decks are keeping your group from having fun then your group should probably build better decks.

It's not my attitude. I said it's hurting the playgroup because a lot of the other guys are getting angry. I honestly don't care. I'm not an infinite combo kind of guy so more power to him. The only thing that bugged me when the guy won on turn 4. That was annoying but whatever.
I'm the one that argued with everyone last weekend that the guys could play whatever they want.

Fair enough, but when you said "these two guys build decks that are super competitive and it's ruining the play group" that sounds to me like you're bitching about these guys because their decks are too good, not that the rest of your group is spazzing out because these guys play good decks.
Either way, I'd say the problem is the attitude of your play group, not these two. IMO, everyone else should strive to be as good as those two instead of bitching about how they should bring themselves down to the group's level.

There's a fine line between good and unfun. I tend to teeter between the two based on my experiences playing with my deck in a playgroup. If it gets too out of hand, I don't mind stepping it down a little bit for theFair enough, but when you said "these two guys build decks that are super competitive and it's ruining the play group" that sounds to me like you're bitching about these guys because their decks are too good, not that the rest of your group is spazzing out because these guys play good decks.

sake of everyone else.
Sometimes that's what you have to do if you want people to keep playing with you.

I mean, I have Asperger's and I figured that out pretty easily. Just talk to them, man. The first time I ever had it happen, I was playing mono brown Ulamog and my deck was incredibly busted. I played a few games at the shop and a few of the guys actually told me they were gonna break off and play without me because I won every round we played. That hit home, and after some changes to make the deck more "fair," I never heard that complaint again.

That's the reason I don't normally play Arcuum in fun games, but I'm certainly not obligated to do so and if someone in my play group had the attitude that I was then I'd play it constantly, go infinite, beat them, and concede so everyone else who wasn't an entitled brat could enjoy the game.
And when there's prize support? Nah... you feel free to make your deck as trashy as you want "in the spirit of the game" - I'm going to play what wins.

There was a big 1v1 Commander tournament here a few months ago. I won it playing Zur, because Zur is an unfair and unfun deck to play against, but if I play on Sunday at our shop, we usually all pitch in $3 for prize support + fun. In that environment, I'll play some durdly deck that plays [That's the reason I don't normally play Arcuum in fun games, but I'm certainly not obligated to do so and if someone in my play group had the attitude that I was then I'd play it constantly, go infinite, beat them, and concede so everyone else who wasn't an entitled brat could enjoy the game.

^^^ Doin' it right.
Like, seriously, if you want prize support / tourneys in EDH, and still have the same experience, you need a banned list miles long. The "problem" is that competitive Magic IS what some players find fun. So you can't really expect them to not have fun just because what they do isn't fun to you. The best way to play EDH with a group is to find a group that fits your play style- whether that is all-out-Hermit-Druid, Monk Tribal, or somewhere in between.
(Note: Monk Tribal is, in actual fact, insanely good. But you get the point)
For me, that means playing 1 v. 1. The folks I play with usually politic a lot and get upset over games, and I'm not about that. So let's just sit down, you and me, and have a good time.

Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't even consider gimping myself so other people don't have to bother to make their decks better... especially if I was paying money to do so.
Probably why competitive Warhammer and I didn't mix.
