Wait, he's not strictly better since you have to attack with him.

Still, holy fuck. I'm willing to bet his price tag that SCG has him on pre-order for no less than $25.

I don't know why they'd reprint Springleaf Drum. There's already tons of mana fixing in Limited, and I can't think of a Standard deck that wants this.

Yea I think he's another Blood Scrivener. I love the Eidolon though, it seems really strong.

Ok nvm, Springleaf Drum and that fucker is just stupid.

You're right. Nuwen's Rakdos Aggro just got a bigger treat than it could ever hope for.

Liking Pain Seer and the Eidolon both. Tyler Jacobson (artist) gets yet another potent rare...the man is on a hot streak.

Nope
Yeah...Ain't I just a fuckin' great card analyst?

I feel like Archetype of Imagination should be a rare.

Pain Seer came out at $1.99 and sold out immediately. I just picked up a playset along with Temple of Malice before it jigs up. Had store credit from last set, so I won't lose sleep if Seer bombs in the meta.

I've confirmed myself not to do any pre-orders that aren't FoS - endorsed after blowing $12 on Mindsparker

Damn...Seer is now at $4.99. Comparisons to Confidant are definitely driving the buying spree...

I approach the cards from two different angles, though...I don't mind having Mindsparker because I'll get Wayne Reynolds to sign copies at Spectrum Fantasy Art Live 3 this summer for the pretties book. Pain Seer is the same...cool art and I like Tyler, so at the least they will be a conversation piece with him.

I think we're going to see an article soon from a major retailer trying to convince buyers that he's the next Bob and totally won't Blood Scribner.

He's better, but he's definitely going to be harder to fit into non-aggro decks.

It's not better than Dark Confidant, not close.
Posted: Mon Jan 13, 2014 7:11 am
by zemanjaski
There's room to be worse than Dark Confidant and be playable though.

I was still comparing him to Scrivener in that last post.

Makes me think that the black-based rakdos humans aggro deck might be the more powerful rakdos deck coming up...
Also, I like the eidolon, but not sure I like it as much as y'all seem too... I dunno, I guess if your opponent is out of removal, but considering how much of that there is around atm...

Pain Seer + some card with "Tap target creature do something beneficial"?
Pretty good stuff.

I have an urge to stick that six-drop wizard in an EDH deck with
Gravitational Shift and
Moat just because.

Oh, I hope they gave this one to Noah Bradley. He did an awesome job on the new Volcanic Island and both Izzet Guildgates.

A few things to consider when buying these cards at preorder price:
# It's the second set in the block, it will be drafted for a while before going out of print. These cards are not safe investments due to this.
# Small set, but thus far we've seen good reasons to open it. That being said, if it isn't mythic, you shouldn't be buying it right now. People are going to open a lot of these packs if the set turns out to be good. Think of it akin to how much Mirrodin Besieged (good set) got opened vs. Dragon's Maze. (Bad set.)
# You'll have some time for the smoke to clear in which to buy your cards. The metagame isn't going to settle very quickly, you can keep playing your old decks for a few weeks just fine. Buy your new staples once we know what they are to avoid buying into a dud.

Oh PS: Don't forget to look backwards. Sometimes you can get out from under cards that are about to bomb in value, as well as pick up old cards that were not seeing play but have the potential to see play based on new cards entering the pool. I made a lot of money last season doing this and I intend to do the same this year.

Yikes! Number crunch confirms the rumor that we were not going to get all the scrylands...Golgari and Izzet will not print until the 3rd set.

Exactly...this is one of our rares, and the BAB Promo as well? Don't guess I'll be wasting gas to drive 30 miles to pick up a box...
Oh, and Seer is now selling out at $5.99...

Buy a box promos can't all be winners. Remember
Memoricide?

Posted: Mon Jan 13, 2014 8:45 am
by zemanjaski
You mean a card that featured heavily in the top 8 of worlds 2010? Memoricide was very good.
Posted: Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:11 am
by LP, of the Fires
Memorcide was fine. Extraction affects are conditionally good based on the format. That format had decks that fell apart without a card(prime time, jace, etc.). Slaughter games sees like, zero play(though rakdos without a scry land is admittedly a big deal).
