and my rares suck

2x oracle of bones, rageblood minotaur, tromokratis, colossus of akros, tymaret

like, the red black deck has strong cards in it but no way to abuse them (conscriptors, 2x oracle), it's just leaning heavily on tempers

your deck should be playing the two drop minotaur, you have two others to help him block. you don't need to run aqueous form in your deck.

-aqueous form, -drown in sorrow

+divination, +fellhide brawler

personal preference:

-cavern lampad

+weight of the underworld

1-2 :/ got topdecked out of game 3 round 2 and then flooded two games in a row (the second one I clicked yes to pay tribute to a siren of the fanged coast but mtgo took that as a no and he stole my 5/7 flyer...my next 4 cards off 2x divination were 3 lands and a 2/3 :/ ) I suck, fuck me.

(I hate that 2/2...I guess I have 3 minotaur's but he still seems terrible...)

you said you needed two drops, he's a two drop

i'm a bit salty right now because i am incredibly self-destructive when it comes to sealed sometimes

i've established my best build, so why would i play all three games with the worse one? it's this insane mental block that comes up when i win a game

I've been there. yea, I thought about including him because I wanted more 2 drops. but specifically wanted a blocking 2 drop. in my deck I don't think a 2/2 that blocks 30% of the time is better than the ability for my slow deck to break through a stalemate with unblockability. I would have loved a simple returned phalanx :(

I still think the deck was at least 4-1 worthy. I think I misplayed a little in game 3 of the second round. I think I played round 3 pretty well but I didn't have a lot to deal with. maybe should have mulled my 3 island, 2 swamp, siren of the silent song, bident hand...seemed pretty good till he killed the siren

I really needed to win game two or three there, because there's no way this deck can 2-0 from here

seriously, every round of a 64 person sealed tournament there is someone going to time? it's such a load of cunt

Isn't that normal in limited? I'll imagine that creature stall situations would happen often.

and i'm out. lost game three easily after losing a retarded game two where my disciple showed fiery temper, ordeal of heliod, griffin enchantment gravedrigger and celestial archon. i fought through all of that. but he topdecks two lightning strike's and a purphoro's emissary, which i still fight through, but can't keep up with his topdecks to offset my methodical grinding with tymaret. he wins at two life and won't stop talking about what a great game it was.

bad pool goes 2-2, makes sense.

I woke up thinking of a mistake I made in round four last night. Now I'm pissed again. I paid tribute on something even though I knew he had an Ordeal in his hand to immediately trigger because of the Tribute counters. It was a lose/lose situation, but I think I win if I don't let him gain ten life. Totally forgot.

What boosters do you need for the limited championships qualifiers? I might try my luck if I have any spare lying around.

In the first round of my morning 8-man, my opponent mulled to 0 in game 1 to find out what I was playing (showed him a Brimaz since it tells him the least about my deck). Game 2 I find out he's on Ad Nauseam / Lightning Storm, which is an auto-loss unless I sideboard for it. He goes off but OKs his way through a Lightning Storm and forgets to put counters on it.

The whole thing took 3 minutes, now I have to wait around for round 2. :firstworldproblems:

Fell to Affinity in round 3 in a nail-biter, then blew off steam in a 2-man vs. some ridiculous BG time walk deck.

Posted: Thu Apr 17, 2014 4:43 pm
by Jonnymagic
How did that affinity deck beat you? You're deck is so tuned vs affinity that I have serious trouble beating yours. Did you just draw poorly and he get the nuts?

Posted: Thu Apr 17, 2014 5:57 pm
by hamfactorial
Yeah, I kept a good removal-heavy hand but that's all I saw for the rest of the game. The first and only creature I drew was Kiki-Jiki, and he had a steady stream of value off the top.

Gotcha. Ya your deck is the first modern deck that I legitimately feel I am at a huge disadvantage playing. Thankfully you are the only one running it =D.

Dat rogue brew swag :sherlock:

Affinity is still a very good deck, even in the face of all the heat I'm packing against it. It still runs me over when I don't see my answers on time or I whiff on mana.

Ok guys. What should I play at GP Minneapolis (modern). I would have to buy basically the whole deck and I have almost no experience with the format.

Go!

by hamfactorial
Play Hexproof, nobody is running Jund anymore so you can dodge Liliana. Dedicate your sideboard to beating combo and you're golden.

Modern is a format that rewards experience, so picking an interactive deck as a newbie will be dangerous. Hexproof does the same thing every game, and has a better clock than nearly everything else.

By hexproof I assume you mean boggles?

What do you think of this deck that went 3-1 in the modern daily yesterday?

[deck]23 Snow-Covered Island
23 lands

1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1 Kami of the Crescent Moon
2 creatures

4 Exhaustion
4 Extraplanar Lens
4 Howling Mine
1 Jace Beleren
2 Remand
4 Serum Visions
4 Sleight of Hand
4 Temporal Mastery
4 Time Warp
4 Walk the Aeons
35 other spells

Sideboard
3 Gigadrowse
2 Grafdigger's Cage
4 Leyline of Sanctity
2 Spellskite
2 Steel Sabotage
2 Swan Song
15 sideboard cards
[/deck]

It looks fun

And do you think this SB for boggles is properly geared to beat combo? Would you change something?

[deck]Sideboard
2 Ethersworn Canonist
2 Gaddock Teeg
2 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Guttural Response
2 Nature's Claim
4 Stony Silence
2 Torpor Orb
15 sideboard cards[/deck]

Posted: Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:45 pm
by hamfactorial
I think that's a good start. I've never played hexproof, but I expect that Gaddock Teeg is unnecessary. Ethersworn Canonist is an all-star in my own sideboard vs. UWR, Burn, Storm, Living End and Ad Nauseam.

Guttural Response is probably not great. I'd pack Leyline of Sanctity for Scapeshift, Burn, Black discard decks and anyone running edicts.

It will lose to UW/UWR and Twin combo given a good draw, but probably wins a lot of game 1s vs. fair decks.
