Domri in a creature shell, and the ability to splash for utility like Destructive Revelry or a card like Ruric Thar from the board. What's the real appeal of RUG these days? Last season Snappy + Huntmaster + Thragtusk + Wolf Run was a solid core; what is there now?
I'm also always on the lookout for anything that might make Xenagos work, though of course haven't found it yet. But it does seem like RUG could get some crazy huge mana for a ginormous Mistcutter Hydra or something.
Eh. We'll see what the rest of the set has, but my brew hat's always on. It's like the crappy K-Mart version of your haute couture hat, but it's still always on.

@Purp: Top 8 was:
2x Mono-Black(including a fellow grinder wearing THE SNAZZIEST shirt ever)
1 Mono-red aggro deck that gave me my first lost(I saw cacklers, burning-trees, phoenix, and burn. I assume there where foundry streets, as well).
1 Naya Mid(knocked my out of top 8 contention, though really, I punted game 3 and I hate myself. Still, his deck was fine).
1 UW control piloted by Paul Cheon, former US national champion and the guy who taught LSV how to be good at magic.
1 UB control piloted by Mark Herberholz, former best player in magic for a solid year and who wrote an article describing him hustling LSV in a money draft while drunk: aka, the peoples champ.
1 Esper Control
1 ?????
Esper won beating Cheon in the finals.
Also, According to Seasonal Planeswalker points, I'm the 10th ranked player in the state and my buddy is 8th ahead of my by 30 points. I should have played in the PTQ last week =(

Seer is going to be "mostly" trash. People will try to put him into Control shell where he will inevitably suck. Then his price will drop dramatically, and he'll finally find a place in UB Tempo and RB Aggro as there he's just another cannon-fodder bear or you are capable of protecting him by removing all the obstacles.
UW god seems to be terrible. I wouldn't touch that trash.
Everflame Eidolon is a trash as well. Not even close to Stonewright.
Skyreaping could be nice addition to Mono G devotion. It helps at struggle against Desecration Demons and other stuff like that.
I do like Arbiter of the Ideal. It has evasion so it's easy to actually swing with it - and putting pernaments into play might be fine. Still, that wouldn't fit Ux control shell at all. Some kind of midrange splashing U could consider it as a playable card.
You know, GW's coming. They have terribly strong package of cards but they were
mostly folding to their manabase. If they'll get at least one strong trick in their sleeve (something to let them fight against Control) - we could start to be afraid of 'em.
Experiment One, Voice, Lion, Tusker, G-God, Advent of the Wurm... these are kinda powerfull beatdown cards.

Scrylands don't fix the mana issue unless you're going to run 4 scrylands + 2 Guildgate and then you're still prone to flooding out (no manlands). It's just an inherently inconsistent archetype. The power level if the cards is extremely high, but I think that doesn't sufficiently compensate for the concessions you need to make. Also, the deck sucks vs. MBC

so there are plenty of places where you can pre-order full playsets of all commons and uncommons for a set for around $35. Is that worth it? For folks here who just stick to red only, I'd assume no. But if you always want the cardpool available to you, is buying that plus cherry picking rares and mythics a good deal?

Don't know what you're talking V MBC. That's one of green whites good matchups. They can outrace pack rat and laugh at D-Demon while also presenting hasty/flash threats.
But the mana is the most mediocre thing ever. Still, I think GW decks are finally good in the format and the scrylands should go a long way towards helping them stay competitive.
Meanwhile at the shrine of nykthos, I'll be here making broken amounts of mana...

Yeah that card's always on my radar when I think of that kind of brew but I thought you'd laugh it off if I suggested it.Clan Defiance is a good magic card I suppose.

I'm really liking what's been spoiled so far (other than the buy a box). A good portion of it is unplayable crap, but it always is, and I like draft and those cards are frequently relevant in draft. The red eidolon won't be good in constructed, and will be okay in limited, but he looks like fun in casual. The UW god is probably the worst god we've seen so far, but given what we keep seeing of UW control do we want them to have a crazy god? They could have made her opposition on a stick, or something equally stupid. Bob jr. seems like he has some legs, but i'm not sure where he's going outside of an aggro shell, I sat down and looked at how to fit him into MBD and there is just no place for him, and without some really good way of keeping him tapped and a good black mass removal spell I don't see a new MBC archetype coalescing. Giving him the extra tougness was a complete troll move, but the kind of troll move I
can get behind.
can get behind.

MTG looks to be getting a movie. Hasbro has a horrible track record with movies and Fox has a nasty habit of messing with source material to be "edgy, cool, hip" which translates to campy and out of touch.

deck because at the risk of sounding like a prick, his sideboard seemed real bad. Not the cards themselves, but in lots of matchups it looked like he had way to many cards to bring in and not enough to take out.

Maybe if we pray to purphoros hard enough it will be about the brother's war and not some campy jace intensive crap. Of course given what we've heard from MaRo we can be pretty sure it will be some crappy jace intensive crap.

Brothers war and related stuff would be way too long. I haven't read many of books, but I have loved those that I have read (Onslaught, The Gathering Dark and The Moons of Mirrodin), and of those, The Gathering Dark seems like a good choice, since it has a lot to do with the concept of mana and how mages learn and cast spells. Of course, they'll probably create some crap about Jace or whoever that guy from the comics is.
